A 5 Minute Devotional for Grandparents and Grandkids
You do not need a lot of time to pass on your faith. Here is a simple five minute devotional to share with a grandchild, in person or by phone.

Grandparents have a special place in a child's life. You can share stories, love, and faith in a way no one else can.
The Bible says, "One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts." (Psalm 145:4, KJV) That is what this devotional is for. It is a simple way to tell the next generation about God.
You can do this at the kitchen table, on a walk, or even on a phone or video call. It only takes about five minutes.
Minute 1: Say hello and settle in.
Ask your grandchild, "What was the best part of your day?" Listen closely. Let them know you are glad to be with them.
Minute 2: Read the verse.
Read this verse out loud together: "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5, KJV)
Explain it in simple words: "This means God is always with us. He never goes away."
Minute 3: Talk about it.
Ask one or two of these questions:
When is a time you felt scared or alone?
What helps you feel safe?
Where do you think God is when we feel scared?
Then share a short, true moment from your own life when you knew God was with you. Keep it simple and honest.
Minute 4: Pray together.
Take turns praying. If your grandchild is shy, they can repeat after you. Here is a short prayer you can use:
"Dear God, thank You for always being with us. Help us remember You are near, even when we feel afraid. Please watch over our family. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Minute 5: Bless them.
End by speaking a blessing over your grandchild. You can say, "God loves you, and so do I. He is always with you."
That is it. Five minutes, one verse, and a lot of love.
If you do this once a week, your grandchild will begin to look forward to it. Over time, these small moments can plant deep roots of faith. You may never know how much they will remember, but God will use every word.
Reflection question: Which grandchild, or which young person in your life, could you share this devotional with this week?
