Diverse family walking toward a welcoming entrance

Yes! First Assembly Memphis hosts weekly family-friendly events, including Wednesday night dinners and specialized children’s programs. Families from Millington, Atoka, and the 901 area are invited to join us for Sunday worship at 10:30 am or our mid-week fellowship meals and ministries designed for every age group.

Finding a Place for Your Family in the 901

If you are living in Millington or Atoka, you know that finding a "home base" for your family can feel like a tall order. You want a place where your kids are safe, where they actually enjoy going, and where you can find a bit of breathing room for your own soul. At First Assembly Memphis, we aren’t just a destination on Walnut Grove; we are a community that serves the entire 901 region.

Whether you’re driving down from Tipton County or over from the naval base, the goal is always the same: transformation through Christ-centered community. We believe the church should be the most welcoming place on earth for families. That’s why our calendar isn’t just filled with "religious services," but with opportunities to connect, grow, and eat together.

Weekly Rhythms: Sunday Mornings

Sundays are the heartbeat of our local community. For families coming from Millington or Atoka, we offer a Sunday experience that starts with Life Groups at 9:30 am. This is a relaxed environment where you can grab a coffee, meet other parents, and dive into the Word of God while your children are cared for in age-appropriate settings.

At 10:30 am, our Sunday Worship Service begins. While you are in the main sanctuary, your kids (K-5) are in FA Kids Church, where they experience high-energy worship and teaching tailored just for them. For the littlest ones, our nursery care (6 weeks through age 5) is available during all services, ensuring they are in a safe, Spirit-filled environment.

Definition Block: Life Groups Life Groups are small-group gatherings centered on Bible study and fellowship. They are designed to help believers move from a "crowd" experience to a "community" experience, building deep, Christ-centered relationships.

Mid-Week Refuel: Wednesday Nights

We know that the stretch between Sundays can be long, especially when you’re juggling school, work, and family life in the 901. Our Wednesday nights are specifically designed to lighten the load for parents and provide a mid-week spiritual boost.

It starts with the Wednesday Evening Family Meal from 5:00 pm to 6:15 pm. For just $7 a person, your family can enjoy a hot meal together without the stress of cooking or cleaning. It’s a great way to meet other families from Cordova, Bartlett, and Atoka before the evening ministries begin.

At 6:30 pm, we transition into specialized ministries:

  • Girls Ministries Clubs (K-5): A place for girls to build friendships and learn biblical truths.

  • Royal Rangers Boys Ministry (K-5): An activity-based ministry that mentors boys into Christ-like manhood.

  • Youth & College/Career: Specialized groups for teenagers and young adults to navigate life’s questions.

  • Adult Classes: Men’s and women’s groups that dive deep into sanctification and Spirit-led living.

Definition Block: Sanctification Sanctification is the lifelong process, led by the Holy Spirit, of being set apart from sin and becoming more like Jesus Christ in character and action.

Special Seasonal Events

Beyond our weekly rhythms, we host events throughout the year that bring the whole Memphis area together. From our annual VBS (Vacation Bible School), which is a highlight for children across Shelby County, to seasonal gatherings like Trunk or Treat, there is always something happening. We also offer recreational sports leagues, including baseball and fall sports, providing a healthy, competitive environment for kids to grow in character.

Value: Top 3 Tips for Visiting a New Church with Kids

Visiting a new church can feel a bit like the first day of school for both parents and kids. To make your trip from Millington or Atoka as smooth as possible, keep these tips in mind:

Tip

Description

Why it Helps

1. Arrive 15 Minutes Early

This gives you plenty of time to find the children's check-in area without feeling rushed.

Reduces stress for you and helps your kids settle in before activities start.

2. Use the Pre-Check Tool

Many churches, including FA Memphis, offer digital tools to learn about ministries beforehand.

Familiarizes you with our safety protocols and what your kids will be learning.

3. Stay for the Fellowship

Don't rush out immediately after the service ends. Grab a coffee or stay for a meal.

This is where real connection happens. It helps you feel like part of the family, not just a visitor.
