Bible Study: Can I Really Be Sure I'm Saved?

Yes, you really can be sure you are saved when your trust is in Jesus Christ, not in your own efforts. Christianity does not teach that forgiveness is earned by good deeds. It teaches that salvation is a gift of grace received through faith, giving believers real peace and lasting assurance.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith... it is the gift of God: not by works, so that no one can boast." That means salvation is not a paycheck for religious performance. It is mercy from God through the finished work of Jesus.
This is one of the clearest differences between the Gospel and works-based righteousness. In Islam, salvation is often understood through obedience and deeds, leaving a person unsure whether they have done enough. But in Christ, forgiveness is not a moving target. Jesus took our sin on the cross, and His righteousness is given to those who believe.
That does not make good works unimportant. It puts them in the right place. Good works are the fruit of salvation, not the price of it. We do not obey to make God love us. We obey because in Christ, we have been forgiven, welcomed, and made new.
First John 5:13 says, "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." God wants believers to live with assurance, not constant fear. If you belong to Jesus, you do not have to wonder every day if you have earned another chance. You can rest in His grace.
Lord Jesus, thank You that salvation is a gift of grace and not something I have to earn. Help me trust fully in Your finished work on the cross. When I feel afraid or uncertain, remind me that Your forgiveness is real, complete, and secure. Amen.
