Bible Study: How Can I Use the 16 Fundamental Truths in My Bible Study?

You can use the 16 Fundamental Truths in your Bible study as a simple guide to help you understand what Scripture teaches about God, salvation through Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Church, and the hope to come. They are not a shortcut around the Bible; they help you read it with clarity, confidence, and faith.

Bible Verses for Study:

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” : 2 Timothy 3:16-17

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses ... to the ends of the earth.” : Acts 1:8

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” : John 3:16

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” : Matthew 24:14

Understanding the Foundation of Our Faith

I am so glad you are here. Whether you are a seasoned believer or someone just starting to flip through the pages of the Bible for the first time, I want you to know something: you are never forgotten, you are never alone, and you are deeply loved by God. Welcome home to this community where we dive deep into the Word together.

When you start a **16 Fundamental Truths Bible Study**, you are not just working through a list. You are tracing the steady story of Scripture and learning how these truths point you back to Jesus again and again. They keep you grounded when life feels noisy, and they remind you who God is and who you are in Him. In a very real sense, the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails.

These sixteen statements were never meant to replace the Bible. They simply help hold the big picture together so you can study with wisdom, humility, and confidence. As you walk through them, you begin to see how each truth strengthens your faith and shapes the way you live.

The Four Cardinal Doctrines

While all sixteen truths matter, four are often called the "Cardinal Doctrines." They help you see the heart of the gospel story and give you a great place to begin if you are wondering where to start:

1. Salvation: We believe that man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is a gift of grace, received through repentance and faith. There is no other way to the Father except through Jesus. This is the ultimate "welcome home" for every soul.

2. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit: This is a distinct experience following salvation. It is an empowering for life and service, helping us live boldly and witness faithfully in everyday life.

3. Divine Healing: We believe that deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers. God still performs miracles today. He is still the Great Physician.

4. The Second Coming: We call this "The Blessed Hope." Jesus is coming back for His church. This truth gives us the urgency to share the Gospel and the comfort to know that this broken world is not our final home.

A Deep Dive into the Full 16 Truths

When you sit down for your Bible study, it helps to see the full picture. The Scriptures are inspired (Truth #1), which means the Bible is our authority and our daily bread. We serve the one true God (Truth #2), revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We hold firmly to the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ (Truth #3): fully God, fully man, born of a virgin, sinless, crucified, risen, and coming again.

We acknowledge the Fall of Man (Truth #4), which helps explain why the world is broken, and then we rejoice in the Salvation of Man (Truth #5), found only through Jesus Christ. As we grow in faith, we also honor the Ordinances of the Church (Truth #6), including water baptism and Holy Communion, as visible reminders of God’s saving work in our lives.

We embrace the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Truth #7) and the Initial Physical Evidence (Truth #8), which is speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. These truths remind us that God still empowers His people for service. We also pursue Sanctification (Truth #9), the ongoing work of becoming more like Jesus in heart, character, and daily life.

Diverse believers united in their global Assemblies of God mission and Spirit-empowered living.

The Church and Its Mission (Truth #10) and The Ministry (Truth #11) remind us that we are part of a global body with a specific purpose: to seek and save the lost. We believe in Divine Healing (Truth #12) and look forward to the Blessed Hope (Truth #13).

Finally, we look toward the future: The Millennial Reign of Christ (Truth #14), The Final Judgment (Truth #15), and the glorious New Heavens and New Earth (Truth #16). Understanding these helps us keep a perspective that is bigger than our current problems.

Practical Success in Your Bible Study

I want you to feel steady and encouraged as you study these truths. If it feels like a lot at first, take a breath. The Holy Spirit is faithful to teach you as you open God’s Word. Here are a few simple ways to begin:

First, stay consistent. A little time in Scripture each day adds up. Second, use trusted resources that help you stay focused on God’s Word. If you use movies or documentaries as extra learning tools, I recommend family-safe clean versions through VidAngel or “Enjoy Movies Your Way.” For online safety and accountability, especially for families, Bark and Covenant Eyes can help you protect what enters your heart and home.

Third, do not study alone. Faith grows well in community. When we learn alongside other believers, we gain encouragement, fresh insight, and reminders of God’s faithfulness.
