Yes, Heaven is a real, literal place prepared by God for those who love Him. Scripture describes it as God’s dwelling place and our eternal home, where the presence of Christ brings perfect joy. For the believer, Heaven is not just a comforting idea but a concrete promise and a future reality.
Grief has a way of stripping life down to the most essential questions. When we stand at the edge of a grave or sit in the silence of a home that feels too quiet, the intellectual curiosity about the afterlife suddenly becomes a desperate need for truth. We find ourselves asking, “Is there actually something more? Is my loved one truly safe? Is Heaven real?”
These questions aren't signs of a lack of faith; they are the cries of a heart trying to reconcile the pain of this world with the promises of the next. The Bible doesn't shy away from these questions. In fact, it provides a vivid, robust, and deeply comforting picture of what awaits those who follow Jesus Christ.
The Testimony of Jesus
The most significant evidence for the reality of Heaven comes from the words of Jesus Himself. In John 14:1-3, during one of the most tender moments with His disciples, He said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”
Jesus uses the word "place" (Greek: topos). He isn't describing a vague state of mind or a hazy spiritual dimension. He is describing a location, a destination. Just as you might prepare a guest room for a beloved friend, Christ is currently preparing a dwelling for His people. He spoke of Heaven with the familiarity of a hometown, because that is exactly what it is for Him. He came from Heaven, He returned to Heaven, and He promised to bring us there to be with Him.

A Place of Presence and Peace
One of the most frequent descriptions of Heaven in the Bible is that it is the dwelling place of God. While God is omnipresent, meaning He is everywhere, Heaven is the place where His glory is manifested without any filter or shadow.
In Revelation 21:3-4, we get a glimpse of the ultimate "Heaven on Earth" reality: “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
If you are grieving today, hold onto that promise. Heaven is the place where the "old order" of brokenness, cancer, heart failure, accidents, and aging is completely abolished. The "evidence" of Heaven is found in the character of a God who refuses to let death have the final word.
What Happens the Moment We Die?
Many people wonder about the "intermediate state", that space between our last breath on earth and the final resurrection. The Assemblies of God and the broader evangelical tradition teach that for the believer, the transition is immediate and conscious.
The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:8 that to be "away from the body" is to be "at home with the Lord." He didn't say we go into a long sleep or a period of waiting. He said we go home. When Jesus spoke to the thief on the cross, He didn't say, "In a few thousand years you'll see me." He said, "Today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43).
This brings incredible comfort to the grieving heart. It means that your loved one who died in Christ didn't "cease to be." They didn't vanish into a cloud of memories. They transitioned from a world of shadows into a world of light. They are more alive now than they ever were here.

The New Heavens and the New Earth
It is a common misconception that we will spend eternity as disembodied spirits floating on clouds. Biblical hope is much richer than that. The ultimate promise of Scripture is the "New Heavens and the New Earth."
God is a Creator, and He loves His creation. His final plan is to renew the world, stripping away the curse of sin and death. We will have resurrection bodies, physical, tangible, recognizable bodies, much like Jesus had after He rose from the grave. We will walk, talk, eat, and serve God in a world that is finally the way it was always meant to be.
Heaven is not an escape from reality; it is the arrival of true reality. It is the "prepared place for a prepared people."
Is There Proof?
While we cannot measure Heaven with a telescope or visit it with a satellite, the proof for the believer lies in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. If Jesus stayed in the grave, then Heaven is just a beautiful dream. But because the tomb was empty three days later, we have historical, eyewitness-verified proof that life exists beyond the veil of death.
Jesus is the "firstfruits" of those who have fallen asleep. His resurrection is the guarantee that our resurrection is coming. When we trust in Him, we aren't just hoping for the best; we are anchoring our souls to a historical fact.

Walking Through the Valley
If you are struggling to believe right now because your heart is heavy, please know that God is not angry with your questions. Even the great heroes of faith in the Bible had moments where they cried out, "How long, O Lord?"
Faith isn't the absence of grief; it is the presence of hope in the midst of it. You are seen. You are loved. You are not forgotten. Even in this season of loss, you are never alone. The God who prepared Heaven is the same God who is walking with you through the valley of the shadow of death right now.
Heaven is real because God is real. And because He lives, we: and those we love who belong to Him: will live also.
Heavenly Father, we come to You with hearts that are often heavy and minds that are full of questions. We thank You for the promise of Heaven and the hope of the resurrection. Lord, for the one reading this who is carrying the weight of grief, I pray that You would wrap Your arms around them. Give them a peace that surpasses all understanding. Help them to see beyond the pain of today to the bright hope of tomorrow. Thank You, Jesus, for going to prepare a place for us. We trust in Your word and Your love. Amen.
