I get it. Sometimes "doctrine" can sound like a cold, dusty word. But when we look at the Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths, we aren't just looking at a list of facts; we are looking at the heartbeat of God for His people. It’s about how much you are loved, how much you are valued, and how you are never alone. If you've been searching for a way to dive deep into these truths without feeling overwhelmed, you are exactly where you need to be. Welcome home.

The Question: Why a 16 Fundamental Truths Bible Study?

Why do we need a structured study of these truths? In a world that feels increasingly chaotic, we all need an anchor. We need to know what is true about God, what is true about ourselves, and what is true about our future. Many people look for an Assemblies of God connection because they want a community that stands firm on the Word while keeping its heart wide open. Whether you are unchurched, homebound, or a seasoned believer, these sixteen truths provide a framework that helps us make sense of our faith and our world.

The Answer: A Journey Through the Heart of Faith

To help you navigate this, I’ve broken these truths down into bite-sized, grace-filled sections. Think of this as your personal guide to the essentials of our faith. We aren't just checking boxes; we are inviting the Holy Spirit to transform our minds as we study.

1. The Scriptures Inspired

The Bible is our ultimate source of truth. It isn't just a book of ancient stories; it is the living, breathing Word of God. When I open my Bible, I’m not just reading; I’m listening to my Father speak to me. It is our infallible rule of faith and conduct.

2. The One True God

God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM." He is one God, yet manifested in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the mystery of the Trinity, a relationship of perfect love that we are invited into.

3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. From His virgin birth to His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary work on the cross, His bodily resurrection, and His exaltation at the right hand of God, Jesus is the center of everything we are.

4. The Fall of Man

Man was created good and upright, but we fell into sin. This is why the world feels broken. Recognizing our fall isn't about shame; it’s about acknowledging our need for a Savior. We can't fix ourselves, but God didn't leave us in our brokenness.

5. The Salvation of Man

This is the first of our "Cardinal Doctrines." Salvation is a free gift received through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s not about how hard you work; it’s about what Jesus already did. You are deeply loved, and His grace is enough for you.

6. The Ordinances of the Church

We practice Water Baptism by immersion (identifying with Christ's death and resurrection) and Holy Communion (remembering His suffering and looking forward to His return). These are physical ways we celebrate spiritual realities.

7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

This is another Cardinal Doctrine. It’s a gift available to all believers, distinct from and following the experience of the new birth. It provides us with power for life and service. If you feel weary, this is the "refreshing" God promised.

8. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance. It is an entrance into a deeper life of the Spirit.

9. Sanctification

Sanctification is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God. It’s a progressive work, meaning God is still working on us every day. He doesn't expect perfection overnight; He desires a heart that is moving toward Him.

10. The Church and Its Mission

The Church is the Body of Christ. Our mission is to seek and save the lost, to worship God, to build a body of believers in the image of His Son, and to demonstrate His love and compassion to all.

11. The Ministry

God calls men and women to lead and serve the Church. This isn't about status; it’s about a divine calling to equip the saints for the work of the ministry.

12. Divine Healing

This is the third Cardinal Doctrine. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers. We believe God still heals today because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

13. The Blessed Hope

The fourth Cardinal Doctrine! The resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord is the imminent and blessed hope of the Church.

14. The Millennial Reign of Christ

The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years. This brings the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace.

15. The Final Judgment

There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. This reminds us that God is a God of justice, but His heart’s desire is that none should perish.

16. The New Heavens and the New Earth

"We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness." This is our eternal home. No more pain, no more tears, just the presence of God forever.

The Value: Why These Guardrails Matter

When we look at this 16 Fundamental Truths Bible study, we realize that theology isn't meant to be a weapon; it’s meant to be a shield. It protects us from being tossed around by every new trend or confusing idea. In our community at Boundless, we often say that the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails. These truths keep us on the path that leads to life, making sure we stay centered on Jesus and His grace.

Living out these truths in the modern world means making intentional choices for our families. When we talk about the "Scriptures Inspired," it naturally follows that we want to protect what enters our homes. I always recommend using tools like VidAngel or “Enjoy Movies Your Way” to ensure your family media is clean and safe. To keep your household’s digital life healthy, I encourage checking out Bark or Covenant Eyes for accountability and online safety. Protecting our hearts is a practical application of our faith.

Wherever you are in the world, these truths remind us that we are never forgotten and never alone. God has a plan for your life, and that plan is rooted in the eternal truths of His Word. This study is just the beginning of a lifelong adventure with Him.
