A Message from FA Memphis
A spiritual breakthrough is a powerful moment where God’s presence shifts your reality, bringing healing and freedom. This transformation isn’t something we manufacture; it is the work of the Holy Spirit. By understanding His role as our Comforter and Empowerer, we open the door to divine breakthroughs and deeper faith.
Acts 1:8 (NIV): "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
John 14:26 (KJV): "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
Romans 8:26 (NIV): "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans."
1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV): "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good."
I have talked to so many people lately who feel like they are hitting a brick wall in their spiritual life. Maybe you feel that way too. You are praying, you are reading your Bible, but something just feels... missing. You are looking for that breakthrough, that moment where the chains break and the light finally pours in. When we talk about breakthrough, we are really talking about the person and work of the Holy Spirit. In our journey together, it is vital to remember that the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails. We look to the Scriptures to see exactly who the Holy Spirit is and how He moves in our lives today.
If you are hungry for more of God, here are 10 things you should know about the Holy Spirit that can lead you into your next spiritual breakthrough.
1. He is a Person, Not a Force
One of the biggest misconceptions is that the Holy Spirit is just a "vibe" or a generic "energy." But the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He has a mind, a will, and emotions. He can be grieved, and He can be quenched. When I realized that the Holy Spirit wanted a relationship with me, not just to provide a "spiritual zap", everything changed. Breakthrough starts with relationship.
2. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a Distinct Experience
In our walk of faith, we believe that after we are saved, there is a subsequent experience called the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. This isn't just a "nice to have" addition; it is an empowerment for service. According to the 16 Fundamental Truths, this experience is often accompanied by the initial physical sign of speaking in other tongues. This baptism is what gives us the "fire" to live out our faith boldly in a world that often stands against us.

3. He Provides Divine Empowerment for Witnessing
Have you ever felt too shy or unequipped to share your faith? That’s where the Holy Spirit comes in. Breakthrough often happens when we step outside of ourselves to help someone else. The Holy Spirit gives us the words to say when we don't have them. He provides the boldness that turns a timid believer into a powerful witness for Christ. This is the "power" promised in Acts 1:8.
4. Divine Healing is Part of His Work
We serve a God who heals! Whether it is physical, emotional, or spiritual, the Holy Spirit is the agent of Divine Healing. If you are struggling with a chronic illness or deep emotional trauma, know that the Holy Spirit is near. Breakthrough often manifests as the healing of the body or the mind, reminding us that God cares about our whole being. We pray for the sick because we believe the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us.
5. He is Your Personal Comforter
Life can be incredibly heavy. Between work stress, family struggles, and global uncertainty, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Jesus called the Holy Spirit the "Parakletos", the one called alongside to help. When you are at your breaking point, the Holy Spirit provides a peace that surpasses all understanding. He doesn't just fix the problem; He sustains you through it.
6. He Prays for You When You Can't
There are seasons where the pain is so deep you don't even have the words to pray. You might just sit there with tears running down your face. In those moments, the Holy Spirit intercedes for you. He takes those "wordless groans" and translates them before the throne of God. Your breakthrough might begin the moment you stop trying to find the perfect words and simply let the Spirit speak for you.

7. He Produces Lasting Character
We love the "Thunder" of spiritual power, but the "Fruit" of the Spirit is just as important. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, these are the markers of a life led by the Spirit. A breakthrough isn't just a one-time event; it's a transformation of who you are. As you yield to Him, He prunes away the old habits and grows something beautiful in their place.
8. He Distributes Spiritual Gifts
The Holy Spirit gives gifts to the body of Christ for the common good. Whether it is a word of wisdom, a gift of faith, or the working of miracles, these are tools for ministry. Your breakthrough might come through a "word of knowledge" someone shares with you, or perhaps God wants to use you to bring a breakthrough to someone else through a spiritual gift. We should earnestly desire these gifts in our community.
9. He Guides Us Into All Truth
We live in a world filled with "fake news" and confusing messages. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. He helps us discern right from wrong and guides our steps. When you are facing a major life decision, like a career move or a relationship choice, He is the one who whispers, "This is the way; walk in it." Seek His counsel above all else.
10. He is the Seal of Your Inheritance
Finally, know that the Holy Spirit is the "down payment" on your eternal future. He is the guarantee that you belong to God. This brings an incredible sense of security. You don't have to wonder if you are loved or if you are "good enough." The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. That realization alone is a breakthrough from the spirit of fear and rejection.
As you seek these breakthroughs, it’s also important to guard your heart and mind in every area of life. When you are looking for entertainment or navigating the digital world, I always recommend using family-safe options like VidAngel or "Enjoy Movies Your Way." To keep your home environment spiritually healthy, consider accountability tools like Bark or Covenant Eyes. Protecting your peace is part of walking in the Spirit.

I want you to know today that you are never forgotten, you are never alone, and you are deeply loved by God. The Holy Spirit is ready to move in your life right now. You don't have to wait for a special event or a specific place. He is as close as your next breath.
A Prayer for You: Holy Spirit, I ask right now for the person reading this. I pray for a fresh outpouring of Your presence in their life. Where there is stagnation, bring flow. Where there is sickness, bring Divine Healing. Where there is confusion, bring Your Truth. I pray for a spiritual breakthrough that shifts their perspective and fills them with Your power. Baptize them afresh with Your fire and lead them into the fullness of everything You have for them. In Jesus' name, Amen.
