Ever felt like the world is shifting beneath your feet, leaving you searching for a solid place to stand? In a landscape of endless opinions and noisy headlines, knowing what you believe and why you believe it is the ultimate anchor for your soul.
The Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths are the core biblical doctrines that provide a clear, stable foundation for faith. These truths emphasize the authority of Scripture, salvation through Jesus Christ, the power of the Holy Spirit, divine healing, the mission of the Church, and the hope of Christ’s return. They are not dry theology; they are biblical anchors that remind us God is true, present, and worthy of our trust today.
Whether you are a lifelong believer or someone just beginning to explore the claims of Jesus, these truths offer a roadmap for a life filled with purpose, peace, and spiritual power. Let’s dive deep into these 16 pillars of faith and see how they can transform your walk with God today.
The Foundation: God and His Word
Before we can build a house, we need a foundation. For the believer, that foundation is the Word of God and the nature of God Himself. These first three truths set the stage for everything else we believe.
1. The Scriptures Inspired: We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It isn't just a collection of ancient stories; it is God’s direct revelation to us, serving as the final authority for how we live and what we believe (2 Timothy 3:15–17). In a world of relative truth, the Bible remains our absolute North Star.
2. The One True God: God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM.” He is the Creator of all things and the Redeemer of humanity. Most importantly, He has revealed Himself in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19). This “Trinity” shows us that God is, at His very heart, a community of love.
3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ: Jesus isn't just a good teacher or a historical figure. He is the eternal Son of God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead, and is now exalted at the right hand of God (Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 7:26; Acts 2:22).

The Restoration: Man’s Fall and God’s Rescue
To understand the Good News, we first have to understand the "bad news." Humanity was created for a relationship with God, but something went wrong. These truths explain the "why" behind our need for a Savior.
4. The Fall of Man: Humans were created good and upright. However, by voluntary transgression, humanity fell into sin, bringing not only physical death but spiritual death, which is separation from God (Genesis 1:26–27; Romans 5:12–19). This is why we often feel a "void" or a sense of disconnection that only God can fill.
5. The Salvation of Man: This is a "Cardinal Doctrine": one of the most vital parts of our faith. Man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 24:47; John 3:3; Ephesians 2:8). It is a free gift of grace that restores us to a perfect relationship with our Creator.
6. The Ordinances of the Church: We practice two main symbolic acts that reflect our faith:
Baptism in Water: An outward sign of an inward change, signifying that we have died to our old life and been raised to a new life in Christ (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4).
Holy Communion: A time to remember Christ’s suffering and death and to look forward to His second coming (1 Corinthians 11:26).
The Power: The Holy Spirit and Sanctification
Christianity isn't just about getting to heaven; it’s about living a transformed life right here on earth. We cannot do this in our own strength. We need the power of the Holy Spirit.
7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit: This is another "Cardinal Doctrine." All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect the promise of the Father: the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This experience is distinct from and follows the new birth. It brings an endowment of power for life and service (Acts 1:4, 8; Luke 24:49).
8. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit: We believe that the baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance (Acts 2:4). This is the "fire" that empowers us to be bold witnesses for Jesus.
9. Sanctification: Sanctification is an act of separation from that which is evil and of dedication unto God (Romans 12:1–2; 1 Thessalonians 5:23). It is a progressive work where we become more like Jesus every day, empowered by the Spirit to walk in holiness.

The Mission: The Church and Its Calling
You were not meant to follow Jesus alone. You were designed for community and for a mission that is bigger than yourself. These truths describe the purpose of the Church.
10. The Church and Its Mission: The Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit. Our mission is fourfold:
To be an agency of God for evangelizing the world.
To be a corporate body in which man may worship God.
To be a channel of God’s purpose to build a body of saints being perfected in the image of His Son.
To be a people who demonstrate God’s love and compassion to all the world.
11. The Ministry: A divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for the fourfold purpose of leading the Church in evangelization, worship, building up the body, and meeting human needs with ministries of love and compassion (Mark 16:15–20; Ephesians 4:11–16).
12. Divine Healing: This is a "Cardinal Doctrine" that brings so much comfort to the hurting. Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers (Isaiah 53:4–5; Matthew 8:16–17; James 5:14–16). God still heals today!

The Future: Our Blessed Hope
Finally, we look toward the future. No matter how dark the world seems, we know how the story ends. These final truths provide the "Blessed Hope" that keeps us going during difficult times.
13. The Blessed Hope: This is the "Rapture" of the Church. We believe in the resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; Romans 8:23; Titus 2:13). Jesus is coming back for His people!
14. The Millennial Reign of Christ: The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years (Zechariah 14:5; Matthew 24:27; Revelation 20:1–6). This will be a time of universal peace and the salvation of national Israel.
15. The Final Judgment: There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life will be consigned to the everlasting punishment in the lake of fire (Matthew 25:46; Mark 9:43–48; Revelation 19:20; 20:11–15; 21:8).
16. The New Heavens and the New Earth: "We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness" (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21, 22). This is our eternal home: a place with no more tears, no more pain, and the glorious presence of God forever.
