Bible Study: The Ultimate Guide to the 16 Fundamental Truths: A Bible Study for the Spiritually Curious

Have you ever sat in a quiet room, looking at a Bible, and wondered, "Where do I even start?" Or perhaps you’ve heard about the Assemblies of God and wondered what exactly we believe at our core. Whether you are a lifelong believer or just someone who is "spiritually curious," having a solid foundation is everything. It’s like building a house; if the foundation isn't set, the walls won't hold when the storms of life come blowing through.

At Boundless Online Church, we want to help you clear away the noise. We believe that faith shouldn't be a mystery that requires a secret code to unlock. It should be a clear, hopeful path toward the heart of Jesus.

What are the 16 Fundamental Truths and why do they matter?

The 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God are core biblical doctrines that provide a foundation for faith. They cover essential topics like the inspiration of Scripture, the nature of God, salvation through Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit. These truths offer clarity and hope for anyone spiritually curious about God’s plan and the mission of the Church in today’s world.

By studying these truths, you aren't just memorizing facts; you are learning the "why" behind your faith.

The Foundation: God and His Word

Everything starts with God and how He talks to us. Without these first few truths, we’d be wandering in the dark.

1. The Scriptures Inspired

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It’s not just a collection of old stories; it’s God’s self-revelation to us. It is our authoritative rule for how we live and what we believe. (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

2. The One True God

There is only one God, but He has revealed Himself in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is often called the Trinity. He is the "I AM," the Creator of everything you see. (Matthew 28:19)

3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus isn't just a "good teacher" or a "historical figure." He is fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died for our sins, rose from the grave, and is now at the right hand of God. (Philippians 2:9-11)

The Turning Point: Humanity and Salvation

This is where the story gets personal. This is where your story meets His story.

Truth #5: The Salvation of Man

4. The Fall of Man

God created us good and upright, but we chose to go our own way. This voluntary disobedience brought sin into the world, leading to both physical and spiritual death. (Genesis 3:6)

5. The Salvation of Man

This is a "Cardinal Doctrine": one of the four most vital truths. We cannot save ourselves. Salvation is a gift of grace that we receive through faith in Jesus and repentance. It’s about being made new and finding a home in God’s family. (Ephesians 2:8)

6. The Ordinances of the Church

We practice two main "ordinances" to remember what Jesus did:

  • Water Baptism: A public "yes" to Jesus, symbolizing our old life dying and a new life beginning.

  • Holy Communion: A meal where we remember Christ’s suffering and look forward to His return.

The Power: The Holy Spirit and Sanctification

Faith isn't just about a decision you made years ago; it’s about the power you have to live today.

Truth #7: Baptism in the Holy Spirit

7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Another Cardinal Doctrine! We believe there is an experience following salvation where the Holy Spirit empowers you for life and service. It’s like a spiritual "recharging" that gives you the boldness to share God’s love. (Acts 1:8)

8. The Initial Physical Evidence

Following the pattern found in the Book of Acts, we believe the first physical sign of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in other tongues. It’s an outward sign of an inward overflow of the Spirit. (Acts 2:4)

9. Sanctification

Sanctification is a big word for a simple process: becoming more like Jesus every day. It’s an act of separation from what is evil and a dedication to what is good. (Romans 12:1-2)

The Mission: The Church and the World

We aren't meant to follow Jesus alone. We were built for community.

Truth #10: The Church and Its Mission

10. The Church and Its Mission

The Church is the "Body of Christ." Its job is to seek the lost, worship God, build up believers, and show compassion to the world. At Boundless Online Church, this is why we exist: to be a bridge for those who feel disconnected. (Ephesians 1:22-23)

11. The Ministry

God provides leaders to help equip us. Pastors and ministers are called by God to lead us in worship, evangelism, and building up the Church.

12. Divine Healing

The third Cardinal Doctrine! We believe that healing for the human body is provided for in Christ’s atonement. We pray for the sick because we believe God still heals today. (James 5:14-16)

The Future: Our Blessed Hope

Life can be hard, but as Christians, we have a "Blessed Hope" that keeps our eyes on the horizon.

13. The Blessed Hope

The final Cardinal Doctrine is the Rapture. We believe Jesus is coming back to gather all believers (dead and alive) to be with Him forever. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

14. The Millennial Reign of Christ

After the return of Christ, He will reign on earth for one thousand years. This will be a time of universal peace and the salvation of national Israel.

15. The Final Judgment

There will be a final judgment for those who have rejected Christ. They will be judged according to their works and consigned to eternal punishment. (Revelation 20:11-15)

16. The New Heavens and the New Earth

Finally, God will create a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells. This is our eternal home: a place of perfect peace with God. (2 Peter 3:13)

Whether you are walking the streets of the 901 or watching from halfway across the globe, these 16 truths are the heartbeat of our community.

In a world that feels increasingly chaotic and divided, these truths are an anchor. They remind us that God is in control, that we are loved, and that we have a purpose.

A Short Prayer for You

Lord, thank You that we don't have to guess who You are. Thank You for the foundation of Your Word. As I study these truths, let them move from my head to my heart. Give me peace, give me hope, and help me feel Your presence today. Amen.

You are seen. You are loved. You are not forgotten. You are never alone.
