Bible Study: The Ultimate Guide to the 16 Fundamental Truths: A Soul-Care Bible Study

How do I find a solid foundation for my spiritual life when everything else feels like shifting sand?

For many of us, we’ve spent years searching for a place where truth doesn’t change with the trends. We want "soul care" that actually heals, not just a temporary fix. The answer lies in returning to the bedrock of our faith. The Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths are more than just a list of doctrines; they are a map for the soul-searcher, designed to lead us directly to the heart of God through Jesus Christ. By understanding these truths, we find the spiritual freedom and security we've been longing for.

I know what it’s like to feel spiritually hungry in a world that offers nothing but empty calories. You might be homebound, unchurched, or just curious about what we actually believe at Boundless. You want to know that you are never forgotten, never alone, and deeply loved by God. These sixteen truths are the framework that helps us experience that love in a tangible, life-changing way.

In this guide, we aren't just looking at cold theology. We are looking at how the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails that keep our faith from crashing while allowing us to run the race with joy. Let’s dive deep into these truths and see how they provide the ultimate soul care for every searcher.

Diverse group gathered around a glowing Bible for a soul-care Bible study.

1. The Scriptures Inspired

Everything starts here. We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It’s not just a collection of nice stories or historical records; it’s our authoritative rule for faith and conduct. For someone looking for soul care, the Bible is your spiritual manual. It tells you who you are and whose you are. When we study the Word, we aren't just reading text; we are hearing the voice of our Creator. It’s the primary way God speaks peace into our chaos.

2. The One True God

God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM." He is the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind. He has further revealed Himself as embodying the principles of relationship and association as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Understanding the Trinity helps us understand that God is, at His core, relational. He doesn't just want your obedience; He wants your heart. You are a child of the One True God.

3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ

The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary work on the cross, His bodily resurrection from the dead, and His exaltation to the right hand of God. Why does this matter for soul care? Because if Jesus isn't God, His sacrifice doesn't have the power to save us. But because He is the Deity, His love for you is infinite and His power to heal your soul is absolute.

4. The Fall of Man

Man was created good and upright, but by voluntary transgression, he fell and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. This is the honest truth we all feel, the sense that something is "broken" inside us. Acknowledging the fall is the first step toward healing. We can't fix ourselves, and that’s okay, because we have a Savior who can.

5. The Salvation of Man

Man's only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God. Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the core of our message: Jesus is the only way home. There is no universalism here; it’s a personal invitation to a personal relationship. When you say "yes" to Jesus, your soul is instantly transitioned from darkness into light. It’s the ultimate act of soul care.

6. The Ordinances of the Church

We practice two main ordinances: Water Baptism by immersion and Holy Communion. Baptism is a public declaration that we have died with Christ and have been raised to walk in newness of life. Communion is a symbolic sharing in the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ, a memorial of His suffering and death, and a prophecy of His second coming. These acts are physical markers for our spiritual journey, helping us remember and celebrate our identity in Him.

7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church. This experience is distinct from and subsequent to the experience of the new birth. It brings an endowment of power for life and service. For the weary searcher, this is the "supernatural fuel" you need to live out your faith with boldness.

8. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance. This isn't about being "weird"; it’s about a tangible, biblical evidence of God’s presence filling your life. It’s a gift that strengthens your prayer life and deepens your intimacy with the Father.

9. Sanctification

Sanctification is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God. It’s a progressive work, a daily process of becoming more like Jesus. This is where we talk about living a clean life. In our digital age, we highly recommend tools like Bark and Covenant Eyes to protect your household from online dangers, and we love using VidAngel or "Enjoy Movies Your Way" to keep our entertainment family-safe. Soul care involves guarding what enters your eyes and ears so that you can grow in holiness.

10. The Church and Its Mission

The Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her Great Commission. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. You aren't meant to do this alone. Even if you are joining us online from a different time zone, you are part of a global family. We are called to worship God, build up the body of believers, and reach the world with the Gospel.

11. The Ministry

A divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for the fourfold purpose of leading the Church in: (1) Evangelization of the world, (2) Worship of God, (3) Building a body of saints being perfected in the image of His Son, and (4) Meeting human need with ministries of love and compassion. This is why we are here at Boundless, to serve you, pray for you, and walk alongside you.

12. Divine Healing

Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers. We believe God still performs miracles. Whether you need physical healing or emotional restoration for a broken heart, we believe in the power of prayer. Our prayer board is always open for you to share your needs and see God move.

13. The Blessed Hope

The resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord is the imminent and blessed hope of the Church. This is the "Rapture." It’s the promise that Jesus is coming back for His people. This hope sustains us through the hardest days, knowing that this world is not our final home.

14. The Millennial Reign of Christ

The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, which is our blessed hope, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years. This millennial reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace. It’s the ultimate restoration of justice and beauty to the creation God loves.

15. The Final Judgment

There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, will be consigned to the everlasting punishment in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. This truth reminds us of the urgency of the Gospel. It’s not about fear; it’s about the reality of moral accountability and the incredible value of the gift of grace found in Jesus.

16. The New Heavens and the New Earth

"We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness." This is the grand finale of the soul-care journey. Total peace. Total presence with God. No more tears, no more pain. This is the future for every searcher who finds their home in Christ.

I want you to know that these truths aren't just for scholars or pastors. They are for you. They are the guardrails that ensure your spiritual health and keep you pointed toward the light of Christ. If you’ve been searching for answers, I invite you to stop running and start resting in these foundations. You are deeply loved, and there is a place for you here in our family.
