Bible Study: The Ultimate Guide to the 16 Fundamental Truths: Everything You Need to Grow Your Faith

The 16 Fundamental Truths are the non-negotiable biblical principles that form our spiritual foundation. These truths, ranging from the inspiration of Scripture to the Blessed Hope of Christ’s return, provide a roadmap for understanding God’s Word, experiencing His power through the Holy Spirit, and growing in a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ every single day in our 16 Fundamental Truths Bible Study.

I am so glad you are here. Whether you are a long-time follower of Jesus or you are just starting to kick the tires on this whole "faith" thing, having a solid foundation is everything. Think of it like the framing of a house. You might not see the studs and the rafters once the drywall is up, but without them, the whole thing comes crashing down when the storms of life hit.

At Boundless Online Church, we want to help you build a life that lasts. That’s why we lean into the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. These aren’t just dry "rules" or human opinions; they are biblical anchors for your soul. They help keep us centered on Jesus, grounded in Scripture, and steady in a noisy world. Let’s dive into what we believe and why it matters for your life today.

The Foundation: God and His Word

Everything begins with God and how He communicates with us. Without these first three truths, we’re just guessing. But God didn’t leave us in the dark. He spoke, He revealed Himself, and He came to us in person.

1. The Scriptures Inspired

The Bible is our final authority. We believe the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God: completely reliable and the only perfect rule for how we live and what we believe (2 Timothy 3:15-17). When you read the Bible, you aren't just reading history; you are hearing the heart of your Creator.

2. The One True God

There is only one God, but He has revealed Himself in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19). This is the mystery of the Trinity: one Being in perfect community. It tells us that God is, at His very core, about relationship.

3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus isn't just a "good teacher" or a "prophet." He is the eternal Son of God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on a cross for our mistakes, rose from the grave, and is now seated at the right hand of God (Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 7:26; Acts 2:22). He is fully God and fully man, the bridge between heaven and your heart.

The Human Story: Our Need and His Gift

If we want to understand why Jesus is such "good news," we have to be honest about the bad news. We are all broken, but God’s grace is bigger than our brokenness.

4. The Fall of Man

Humanity was created good, but we chose to go our own way. That "going our own way" is what the Bible calls sin. It brought physical and spiritual death into the world and separated us from God (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 5:12-19). We can't fix this separation on our own.

5. The Salvation of Man

This is a "cardinal doctrine": it’s central to everything. Salvation is God’s free gift to us. We receive it through repentance (turning from our way) and faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9). You don't have to earn it, and you can't buy it. It’s a gift of pure love.

6. The Ordinances of the Church

Jesus gave us two specific things to do to remember and celebrate our faith: - **Water Baptism:** We go under the water to show the world that our old life is dead and we are starting a new life with Jesus (Matthew 28:19). - **Holy Communion:** We eat the bread and drink the juice to remember Christ’s body and blood given for us, looking forward to His return (1 Corinthians 11:26).

The Empowered Life: The Holy Spirit

Following Jesus isn't something you do in your own strength. God gives us His Spirit to empower us, guide us, and comfort us. This is where faith gets "real" in our daily experience.

7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

All believers should seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit. It’s an experience separate from salvation that gives you power for witnessing and living a holy life (Acts 1:4, 8). It’s like God "filling your tank" so you can go the distance.

8. The Initial Physical Evidence

We believe that when a person is first baptized in the Holy Spirit, they will speak in "other tongues" as the Spirit gives them the words (Acts 2:4). It is a beautiful, outward sign of an inward overflow of God’s presence.

9. Sanctification

Sanctification is a fancy word for "becoming like Jesus." It’s both an immediate change when you are saved and a lifelong process of letting the Holy Spirit reshape your heart, your habits, and your thoughts (Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 12:14).

The Mission: Why We Are Here

God didn't save us just so we could wait around for heaven. He saved us to be part of a mission. The Church is God’s "Plan A" for reaching a hurting world.

10. The Church and Its Mission

The Church is the "Body of Christ." Our job is to worship God, share the message of Jesus with everyone, and build each other up in love (Ephesians 1:22-23; Matthew 28:19-20). You weren't meant to do faith alone; you were meant for community.

11. The Ministry

God calls specific people to lead the church: pastors, teachers, and evangelists: to help equip the rest of us to do the work of God’s kingdom (Ephesians 4:11-16). Leadership is about service, not status.

12. Divine Healing

We believe God still heals today! Divine healing is provided for in the atonement and is a privilege for all believers (Isaiah 53:4-5; James 5:14-16). While we don't always understand God’s timing, we never stop asking for His healing touch.

The Future: Our Blessed Hope

No matter how dark the headlines get, the story doesn't end in defeat. We have a future that is brighter than we can imagine.

13. The Blessed Hope

Jesus is coming back! This is our "Blessed Hope." He will return to gather those who belong to Him: both those who have died and those who are still alive (Titus 2:13; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

14. The Millennial Reign of Christ

When Jesus returns, He will establish a literal 1,000-year reign of peace on earth. Imagine a world where there is no war, no injustice, and Jesus is King (Zechariah 14:5; Revelation 20:1-6).

15. The Final Judgment

There will be a final day of accountability. Those who have rejected God’s love will face judgment, but those whose names are in the Book of Life will enter into eternal joy (Matthew 25:46; Revelation 20:11-15).

16. The New Heavens and the New Earth

Finally, God will make everything new. A new heaven and a new earth where there is no more pain, no more tears, and we will live with God forever (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21-22). This is the "happily ever after" that actually comes true.

I know that’s a lot to take in, but here is the heart of it all: God loves you, He has a plan for you, and He has given you everything you need to live a life of purpose. These 16 truths aren't just for scholars; they are for you, right where you are, in the middle of your real, messy, beautiful life.
