The 16 Fundamental Truths are the core biblical doctrines of the Assemblies of God, providing a solid foundation for Christian faith. They cover essential beliefs from the inspiration of Scripture and the nature of God to salvation, divine healing, and the return of Christ, ensuring believers remain grounded in truth.
Key Bible Verses:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Pastoral Insight and the 16 Fundamental Truths
I want you to know something right from the start: you are never forgotten, you are never alone, and you are deeply loved by God. When we talk about "doctrine" or "fundamental truths," it can sometimes feel a bit heavy or academic. But at Boundless, we see these truths as a warm "welcome home." They aren’t just rules; they are the bedrock of a relationship with a Creator who wants the best for you. In a world where it feels like the ground is constantly shifting under our feet, having a solid place to stand makes all the difference. When we navigate the complexities of modern life, the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails.
Let’s take a deep dive into these sixteen anchors. They help us understand who God is, who we are, and where we are going. Whether you’ve been following Jesus for decades or you’re just starting to kick the tires on this whole faith thing, these truths are for you.

1. The Scriptures Inspired We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It’s our ultimate guidebook. It’s not just a history book; it’s alive. When I open the Word, I’m looking for God’s heart for my life today. It is the infallible rule of faith and conduct.
2. The One True God God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM." He is one God, but He exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This mystery of the Trinity shows us that God is, at His very core, relational. He invites us into that relationship.
3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ Jesus isn't just a "good teacher." He is fully God and fully man. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary work on the cross, His bodily resurrection, and His exaltation to the right hand of God. He is the bridge between us and the Father.
4. The Fall of Man Man was created good and upright, but we chose to go our own way. This "fall" brought both physical and spiritual death, separating us from God. Acknowledging this isn't about shame; it’s about realizing why we need a Savior.
5. The Salvation of Man This is the first of our four Cardinal Doctrines. Salvation is a gift! It comes through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s not about working harder or being "good enough." It’s about what Jesus already did. By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, being justified by grace through faith, we become heirs of God.
6. The Ordinances of the Church We practice two main ordinances: Water Baptism by immersion (an outward sign of an inward change) and Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper). These are moments where we remember Jesus’ sacrifice and celebrate our new life in Him.

7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit This is the second Cardinal Doctrine. All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church. It brings an endowment of power for life and service. It’s about having the "oomph" to live out your faith boldly.
8. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance. It’s a beautiful, personal encounter that signifies a deeper filling of God’s presence.
9. Sanctification Sanctification is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God. It’s a process of becoming more like Jesus every day. In our digital age, this means being intentional about what we let into our hearts. I always recommend using tools like VidAngel or “Enjoy Movies Your Way” to keep your media consumption clean. For families, staying safe online is vital, which is why I’m a big advocate for accountability tools like Bark and Covenant Eyes. Guarding your eyes and heart is a practical part of walking in holiness.
10. The Church and Its Mission The Church is the Body of Christ. Our mission is three-fold: to be an agency of God for evangelizing the world, to be a corporate body in which man may worship God, and to be a channel of God’s purpose to build a body of saints being perfected in the image of His Son.
11. The Ministry A divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for the fourfold purpose of leading the Church in: Evangelization of the world, Worship of God, Building a body of saints, and Meeting human need with ministries of love and compassion.
12. Divine Healing This is the third Cardinal Doctrine. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers. We believe that God still heals today. Whether it’s through medicine or a miracle, all healing comes from His hand.

13. The Blessed Hope This is the fourth Cardinal Doctrine, the Second Coming of Christ. We believe in the resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord. This is our great hope! No matter how dark the world gets, Jesus is coming back for us.
14. The Millennial Reign of Christ The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years. This reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace.
15. The Final Judgment There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whoever is not found written in the Book of Life will be consigned to the everlasting punishment in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. This motivates us to share the Gospel with urgency and love.
16. The New Heavens and the New Earth "We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness." This is the ultimate "welcome home." A place where there is no more pain, no more tears, and we dwell in the presence of God forever.
These truths aren't just a list to memorize. They are the framework for a life of purpose and peace. They remind us that our story doesn't end here; it’s part of a much bigger, much more beautiful story written by God Himself. If you ever feel lost, come back to these fundamentals. They will lead you right back to the heart of Jesus.
A Prayer for You
Father, I thank You for every person reading this today. I pray that these truths would move from their heads to their hearts. Let them feel the security and the strength that comes from knowing Your Word. If they are struggling today, remind them that they are never alone and deeply loved. Strengthen their faith and give them a hunger to know You more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
