Bible Study : The Ultimate Guide to the 16 Fundamental Truths: Everything You Need to Succeed in Your Faith Journey

The 16 Fundamental Truths are the essential biblical doctrines that provide a solid foundation for your spiritual life. These core tenets, ranging from the inspiration of Scripture to the promise of a new heaven and earth, serve as a roadmap for believers to grow in their relationship with God and navigate life with divine purpose.

Bible Verses: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." , 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) "Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity..." , Hebrews 6:1 (NIV)

I am so glad you’ve decided to take this deep dive with me today. Whether you’ve been following Jesus for decades or you’re just starting to explore faith, having a clear understanding of what we believe, and why we believe it, matters. In a world that can feel unsteady, these truths become bedrock under your feet, reminding you that God is faithful, present, and worthy of your trust.

These sixteen truths aren't just statements on a page. They are life-giving anchors that help us stay rooted in Jesus, love one another well, and hold on to hope when life feels heavy. Let’s walk through them together and see how they speak into everyday life right now.

The Foundation: The Word and the Creator

The first truth is that The Scriptures are Inspired. This means the Bible isn't just a collection of good stories or ancient history. It is the infallible, authoritative rule for how we live. When I’m facing a tough decision, I don't just look at my bank account or my emotions; I look at the Word. It is my North Star.

The second and third truths focus on the nature of God: The One True God and The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. We serve a God who has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM", Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus is the eternal Son of God who lived a sinless life, died for our mistakes, and rose again. This isn't just a Sunday School lesson; it’s the reality that changes everything about how we see our worth and our future.

The Human Condition and the Solution

Truth number four is The Fall of Man. It’s the honest admission that humanity was created good, but we chose our own way over God's way. This explains why the world feels "broken" sometimes. But thankfully, truth number five is The Salvation of Man. This is one of our four "Cardinal Doctrines." It’s the beautiful news that through repentance and faith in Jesus, we are restored to a relationship with God. You are never too far gone, and you are never alone.

Once we accept that salvation, we practice the Ordinances of the Church (Truth #6). This includes Water Baptism, a public declaration that your old life is gone and you’re new in Christ, and Holy Communion. These are powerful moments where we remember what Jesus did for us and celebrate our new life together.

The Power to Live Out Your Faith

Truths seven and eight are near and dear to my heart: The Baptism in the Holy Spirit and The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Jesus didn't just save us and leave us to figure it out on our own. He promised His presence and power. This gift strengthens us to serve others, live faithfully, and keep growing in courage and obedience. We believe the initial physical sign of this is speaking in tongues, as seen in the book of Acts.

This leads into Sanctification (Truth #9). This is just a fancy word for the process of becoming more like Jesus. It’s a daily choice to separate ourselves from things that hurt our spirit and dedicate ourselves to God’s plan. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about moving in the right direction.

Our Mission and the Ministry

Truths ten and eleven cover The Church and Its Mission and The Ministry. The Church isn't a building; it's you and me. Our mission is to share the Gospel with the whole world, worship God together, and care for people in need. God calls specific people to lead and equip the church, but we all have a role to play in building up the Body of Christ. Whether you are at home or halfway across the world, you are part of something bigger than yourself.

Divine Healing and the Hope for the Future

Truth twelve is Divine Healing. We believe that God still heals today. If you’re hurting or sick, I want you to know you can bring that pain to Him. We pray with faith because God cares deeply about people and still meets us with His healing presence.

The final four truths (13-16) focus on our "Blessed Hope." We believe in The Blessed Hope (Jesus is coming back!), The Millennial Reign of Christ, The Final Judgment, and finally, The New Heavens and the New Earth. No matter how heavy life feels, we are not walking toward darkness. We are walking toward the faithful promises of God. Our future is held securely in His hands.

Practical Steps for Your Journey

Knowing these truths is just the beginning. To really succeed in your faith journey, you have to apply them. Here are a few ways I recommend staying grounded:

  • Daily Scripture: Make the Bible your primary source of truth.

  • Digital Accountability: Since we spend so much time online, protect your heart. I highly recommend tools like Bark or Covenant Eyes to keep your digital life clean and safe.

  • Family-Safe Entertainment: When you’re relaxing with a movie, use services like VidAngel or Enjoy Movies Your Way to ensure the content reflects your values.

  • Community: Don't do this alone. Connect with other believers who can encourage you.

As you study these 16 Fundamental Truths, remember that they are here to set you free, not box you in. They give us the clarity we need to walk in the "wide open spaces" of God's grace. You are deeply loved by God, and He has equipped you with everything you need for the road ahead.
