Bible Study : The Ultimate Guide to the 16 Fundamental Truths: Everything You Need to Succeed in Your Faith

What are the 16 Fundamental Truths? They are the core biblical principles that provide a solid foundation for your spiritual life. Understanding these truths helps you navigate your faith journey with clarity and confidence, ensuring your beliefs are rooted deeply in the Word of God and the Assemblies of God tradition.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

When I look at the landscape of modern faith, I see so many people searching for a solid place to stand. Life moves fast, and the world is constantly shifting under our feet. That is why I believe so strongly in returning to the basics. This **16 Fundamental Truths Bible Study** isn't just a list of rules; it’s a map for your soul. It’s the framework that keeps us steady when the storms of life roll in.

In our community at **Assemblies of God Memphis** and across the global Boundless family, we believe that knowing what you believe, and why you believe it, is the key to a flourishing life. Whether you are a brand-new seeker or have been following Jesus for decades, these truths offer a "welcome home" to the heart of God.

As we dive into these sixteen points, remember that we aren't just looking for head knowledge. We are looking for a heart transformation. In everything we teach, the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails. These guardrails don't limit us; they protect us and keep us on the path toward the abundant life Jesus promised.

1. The Scriptures Inspired

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It’s not just a collection of ancient stories; it’s God’s breath on paper. It is the infallible rule of faith and conduct. When I open my Bible, I’m not just reading; I’m listening to my Father speak.

2. The One True God

There is only one God, but He has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM.” He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This mystery of the Trinity shows us that God is, at His very core, a relational being who invites us into that relationship.

3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus isn’t just a "good teacher." He is the eternal Son of God. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary work on the cross, His bodily resurrection, and His exaltation to the right hand of God. He is fully God and fully man.

4. The Fall of Man

Man was created good and upright, but man by voluntary transgression fell and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. Acknowledging our need for a Savior is the first step toward home.

5. The Salvation of Man

Man's only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God. Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a free gift, and it is available to anyone who asks. You are never too far gone for His grace to reach you.

6. The Ordinances of the Church

We practice two main ordinances: Water Baptism by immersion (a public declaration of our identification with Christ) and Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper), where we remember His suffering and death and look forward to His return.

7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church. It brings an endowment of power for life and service.

8. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance. This isn't about being "weird"; it’s about a spiritual overflow of the power of God in a believer's life.

9. Sanctification

Sanctification is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God. It’s a progressive work of grace that starts the moment we are saved and continues throughout our lives as we become more like Jesus.

10. The Church and Its Mission

The Church is the Body of Christ. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. Our mission is to evangelize the world, worship God, and build a body of saints being perfected in the image of His Son.

11. The Ministry

A divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for the fourfold purpose of leading the Church in: Evangelization of the world, Worship of God, Building a body of saints, and Meeting human need with ministries of love and compassion.

12. Divine Healing

Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers. We believe that God still heals today because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

13. The Blessed Hope

The resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord is the imminent and blessed hope of the Church. We look forward with joy to the day we see Him face to face.

14. The Millennial Reign of Christ

The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, which is our blessed hope, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years. This reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace.

15. The Final Judgment

There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, will be consigned to the everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.

16. The New Heavens and the New Earth

“We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.” This is our ultimate home, a place where there is no more pain, no more tears, and we dwell with God forever.

I know that’s a lot to take in! But these truths are meant to be a comfort, not a burden. They remind us that God has a plan, that Jesus has won the victory, and that the Holy Spirit is here to empower us every single day. You are never forgotten, never alone, and deeply loved by God.
