Boundless Bible Study 20 - Learning To Be Still Before God

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10.

Welcome to the Boundless Bible Study Podcast. I’m Dr. Layne McDonald, and I’m thankful you are here. Today’s Bible study is called Learning To Be Still Before God, and we are listening to what Scripture says about stillness in a world that rewards constant motion.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” That verse does not simply mean be quiet. It means stop striving. Let go of the illusion that everything depends on you. Remember that God is God, and you are held by Him.

Exodus 14:14 says, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Israel stood between the Red Sea and an approaching army. Stillness in that moment did not look practical. It looked impossible. But God was teaching His people that deliverance comes from Him.

Mark 6:31 says Jesus told His disciples, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Even the disciples who were doing good work needed rest with Jesus. Ministry does not replace communion. Activity does not replace abiding.

Stillness can be uncomfortable because silence reveals what noise covers. We notice our fears, our hurry, our need for control. But when we become still before God, we also begin to hear His truth more clearly.

So today, take a holy pause. Open the Bible without rushing. Pray without performing. Sit before God and let your soul remember who holds you.

Let me close with Isaiah 30:15: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.”

Lord, teach us to be still and know that You are God. Amen.
