Have you ever found yourself staring at a problem that felt like a brick wall?
Maybe it’s a situation at work that makes no sense. Maybe it’s a relationship that feels stuck in a loop. Or maybe it’s just the quiet, heavy weight of not knowing what to do next.
We’ve all been there. In those moments, our first instinct is usually to work harder. We research. We pace. We worry. We try to "think" our way out of the hole.
But there is a simpler way that we often overlook. It’s the simple act of asking.
In this edition of our Wisdom from Above micro-study, we are looking at a fundamental truth: God wants to help, but He also wants us to participate in the relationship by speaking up.
The Missing Link in Our Lives
There is a verse in the book of James that is both incredibly encouraging and a little bit convicting. James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask God.”
It’s a short sentence, but it carries a lot of weight. Think about how much time we spend complaining about what we lack. We talk to our friends about it. We post about it. We lose sleep over it.
But how often do we actually stop and ask the Creator of the universe for exactly what we need?

Asking isn’t just about getting stuff. It’s about humility. It’s about admitting that we aren’t the ones in control. When we ask, we are acknowledging that God is the source of everything good.
At Boundless Online Church, we believe that God is a personal Father who cares about the details of your life. Whether you are working a late shift in a hospital, caring for a loved one at home, or seeking answers in a place where it’s hard to find a church, this truth remains the same: God is listening.
Why Do We Hesitate to Ask?
If asking is so simple, why is it so hard?
For many of us, it’s pride. We want to be the heroes of our own stories. We want to say, "I figured it out," or "I made this happen." Asking for help feels like admitting defeat.
For others, it’s a feeling of unworthiness. We think, "Why would God care about my small problems when there is so much chaos in the world?" Or we feel like we’ve messed up too many times to deserve His attention.
But wisdom from above tells a different story. God doesn’t give to us because we are perfect. He gives to us because He is good.
The Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths remind us that God is our provider and that through Jesus, we have direct access to Him. You don’t need a special title or a perfect track record to talk to Him. You just need a sincere heart.
Asking for Wisdom Specifically
In our Wisdom from Above series, we focus heavily on James 1:5. It says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Notice the phrasing there: "without finding fault."
God isn’t going to roll His eyes at you because you’re asking for the tenth time. He isn’t going to lecture you on why you should have known better. He gives generously.
Wisdom is different from knowledge. Knowledge is having information. Wisdom is knowing what to do with that information. It’s the "heavenly perspective" on your earthly problems.
When you ask for wisdom, you are asking to see your situation the way God sees it. That shift in perspective changes everything.

The Difference Between Asking and Demanding
There is a subtle but important distinction here. Asking in faith isn’t the same as demanding a result.
When we ask with wisdom from above, we are saying, "Lord, I need Your help, and I trust Your timing and Your way." It’s an open-handed request.
Sometimes, God gives us exactly what we asked for. Other times, He gives us the strength to endure or a better solution we hadn’t even considered. But the act of asking opens the door for His peace to enter the situation.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed today, try this: Stop for sixty seconds. Put down your phone. And just say, "Father, I need Your wisdom in this. I can't do it alone."
A Global Community of Seekers
Boundless Online Church is more than just a website. We are a community of people from all walks of life, some in bustling cities like Memphis, and others in remote corners of the world.
We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. This means that wherever you are, on a lunch break, in a waiting room, or in the quiet hours of the night, you have a place to connect.
Our mission is to make sure no one feels like they have to figure out their faith in isolation. Wisdom is meant to be shared.
If you’re looking for a place to dive deeper, we have groups and resources designed for exactly that. Check out our Bible Study Club or join the conversation in our I’m New Q&A Welcome Center.
Practical Steps for Your Daily Walk
How do we make "asking" a daily habit?
Identify the Need: Be specific. Instead of saying, "Help my life," try saying, "Help me know how to respond to this email with kindness."
Set Aside the Ego: Acknowledge that you don't have all the answers.
Listen for the Answer: Sometimes the answer comes through a verse, a thought, or the wise counsel of a friend.
Act on the Wisdom: When God gives you a nudge or a direction, take the next step.

We are all learners here. None of us have arrived. The beauty of the Boundless Daily Micro-Studies is that we get to grow together, one small step at a time.
Let Us Stand With You
Sometimes, asking God feels hard because you feel like you’re the only one praying. But you aren't.
We believe in the power of agreement. If there is something heavy on your heart, something you’ve been trying to carry alone, we want to invite you to reach out.
Asking for prayer is often the first step in asking God for what you need. It breaks the cycle of isolation.

Keep Seeking Wisdom
The journey doesn't end with one prayer. It’s a daily rhythm of looking upward. As we continue our Wisdom from Above series, we’ll look at how this heavenly perspective changes how we handle conflict, how we view our resources, and how we treat others.
