Life moves fast. Sometimes it feels like it moves a little too fast.
We live in what might be the loudest century in human history. Between the notifications on our phones, the constant stream of news, and the pressures of work and family, the "noise" can feel overwhelming. It isn't just external noise, either. It’s the internal static: the anxiety about the future, the regrets about the past, and the general sense of chaos that seems to follow us around.
Welcome to this edition of Boundless Daily. We’re glad you’re here.
We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online, and today, we’re looking at how to find genuine, lasting calm when the world around you feels like it’s falling apart. Whether you are working the late shift, caring for a loved one in hospice, or just trying to make sense of a stressful Tuesday, this is for you.
The Storm on the Lake
There is a famous story in the Bible that perfectly captures the human experience of chaos. It’s found in Mark chapter 4.
The disciples were in a boat, crossing the Sea of Galilee. These weren't tourists; many of them were professional fishermen. They knew the water. They knew the winds. But this specific storm was different. The Bible says the waves were breaking over the boat so that it was nearly full.
They were sinking. They were terrified. And where was Jesus?
He was in the stern, asleep on a cushion.

There is something deeply relatable about that moment. When our lives get chaotic: when the bank account is dry, the relationship is fractured, or the health report is scary: it can feel like God is "asleep on a cushion." We cry out, "Don't you care that we are drowning?"
But here is the shift: Jesus wasn't sleeping because He was indifferent. He was sleeping because He was in perfect communion with the Father. His internal peace was greater than the external storm.
Peace is a Person
In our Bible studies, we often talk about the nature of God. As part of the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God, we believe in the One True God who has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM.”
This matters because if God is the creator of the wind and the waves, He is not intimidated by them.
Peace isn't just a feeling you try to conjure up through breathing exercises or positive thinking. While those things can help, true calm comes from a relationship with a Person. Jesus is called the Prince of Peace. When He stood up in that boat and said, "Silence! Be still!" the wind didn't just die down: the Bible says there was a "great calm."
The chaos had to submit to His authority.
When we realize that the same Jesus who calmed the literal storm is present in our "spiritual" boat, the perspective changes. You might still be in the middle of the lake. The wind might still be blowing. But the fear loses its grip because you know who is in the boat with you.
Why We Experience Chaos
Chaos often enters our lives when we lose our anchor. We live in a fallen world where things break and people let us down.
However, we also experience chaos when we try to carry burdens we weren't meant to hold. We try to control the future. We try to fix everyone around us. We try to be the "captain" of a ship that is far too big for us to steer alone.

One of the 16 Fundamental Truths focuses on the "Infallible Rule of Faith and Conduct": the Bible. When we get away from the Word, we lose our map. We start listening to the loudest voices in our social media feeds instead of the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit.
Finding calm starts with a return to the truth. It starts with admitting, "I can't do this on my own."
Practical Rhythms for Finding Calm
So, how do we actually live this out? How do you find peace when your kids are screaming, your boss is demanding, or your body is failing?
1. Dial Down the Digital Noise We are big fans of technology here at Boundless Online Church. It’s how we connect with you! But we also believe in tech safety and wisdom. Your soul wasn't designed to carry the weight of the entire world's problems 24/7. Turn off the news. Put the phone in another room for an hour. Create space for silence.
2. Focus on the Present "Boat" The disciples were worried about drowning in the next five minutes. Often, our chaos is built on "what ifs" about next month or next year. Jesus told us not to worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow has enough trouble of its own. What do you need from Him right now?
3. Speak the Word When the storm is loud, your voice needs to be aligned with God’s voice. Remind yourself of His promises. If you’re feeling anxious, look through our faith and discipleship resources to find scriptures that ground you.
4. Lean into the Community You aren't meant to weather the storm alone. Even the disciples had each other in that boat. We are a global community. Whether you’re in Memphis or on the other side of the world, we are walking this path together.

The Role of the Holy Spirit
We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as a distinct experience that empowers believers for life and service. One of the most beautiful "services" the Spirit performs is that of the Comforter.
In the middle of chaos, the Holy Spirit can bring a supernatural peace that "transcends all understanding." This doesn't mean the problem goes away instantly. It means you are given the strength to stand firm while the problem is being resolved.
If you feel like you’re at your breaking point, ask the Holy Spirit to fill your heart right now. You don't need a fancy prayer. Just a simple, "Help me, Lord," is enough.
You Are Not Alone
Maybe you’re reading this in a hospital waiting room. Maybe you’re on a break during a grueling night shift. Maybe you’re at home, feeling isolated and overwhelmed by the sheer weight of life’s demands.
We want you to know that there is hope. The storm is real, but so is the Savior.
The "great calm" that Jesus brought to the Sea of Galilee is available for your heart today. It starts with a simple step of faith. It starts by looking away from the waves and looking at the One who has the power to hush them.
If you have questions about how to start a relationship with Jesus, or if you just need someone to stand in faith with you, we are here for you. Our online worship and community groups are designed to be a safe harbor for anyone seeking God.

Life is going to keep throwing storms our way. That’s just the nature of the world we live in. But you don't have to sink. You have a Savior who is more powerful than any gale-force wind. You have a community that cares about you. And you have the Holy Spirit to guide you through the darkest nights.
Take a deep breath.
God is still on the throne. He is still in control. And He is still deeply, personally in love with you.
