Boundless Daily: Communion

Life moves fast. Between the endless notifications on our phones, the demands of work, and the quiet weight of our daily worries, it’s easy to feel like we’re drifting. We lose our center. We forget the "why" behind our "what."

That is why we need moments of intentional pausing.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that communion isn’t just a ritual we perform once a month because it’s on the calendar. It is a powerful, living encounter with the Creator of the universe. It is a heart re-centered on the cross.

Whether you are joining us from a break room during a late-night shift, a hospital bedside, or the comfort of your living room, communion is available to you. It is a boundless invitation to experience boundless grace.

A Table with No Walls

One of the beautiful things about being a digital ministry is that we see the "boundless" nature of God’s Kingdom every day. You don’t need to be inside a specific brick-and-mortar building to meet with Jesus.

As we look at the Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths, we recognize that the "ordinances" of the church, baptism in water and Holy Communion, are commanded by the Lord Jesus himself.

Communion consists of two simple elements: the bread and the fruit of the vine. But these elements carry a profound spiritual weight. They are symbols of the body and blood of Christ, expressing our share in the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When we partake, we aren't just looking backward at a historical event. We are looking upward at our current reality in Christ, and we are looking forward to His return.

The Boundless Nature of Grace

Think about the word "boundless" for a moment. It means having no boundaries; infinite or vast.

The grace available through the cross is exactly that. Research into the theology of communion often highlights that there is an "endless, bottomless, boundless grace" found in Jesus. You cannot out-sin God’s grace. You cannot exhaust His mercy.

If every person on earth drew from the well of God’s compassion every single second, the well would still be full.

In the act of communion, we remind ourselves of this truth. We bring our failures, our "not-enoughness," and our heavy hearts to the table. In exchange, He gives us His "all-sufficiency."

If you’re feeling disconnected today, maybe it’s time to stop and remember. If you’re looking for a place to start your journey or find a community that understands this, check out our I'm New page. We’d love to walk with you.

Why We Need the Elements

The elements of communion, the bread and the cup, speak to our most basic human needs.

The Bread: His Body Jesus said, "This is my body, which is given for you." The bread represents the physical suffering of Christ. He took on human flesh, walked our dusty roads, and ultimately allowed His body to be broken so that our brokenness could be healed. This aligns with our belief in Divine Healing (one of the 16 Fundamental Truths), provided for in the atonement.

The Cup: His Blood The cup represents the New Covenant. In the Old Testament, blood was required for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus became the final, perfect sacrifice. His blood washes away every stain. It provides the "Salvation of Man," which comes through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

When we eat and drink, we are physically acting out a spiritual truth: we are taking the life of Christ into ourselves. We are nourished by Him.

Spiritual Vitality in a Digital World

For those of us who live much of our lives online, it’s easy to feel spiritually malnourished. We consume a lot of content, but are we consuming the Truth?

Daily communion, or even just a regular rhythm of communion, provides spiritual vitality. Just as your body needs food to function, your spirit needs the "Bread of Life."

Communion offers:

  • Strength amid hardship: Reminding us that Christ overcame the world.

  • Peace during trouble: Centering our minds on the finished work of the cross.

  • Joy in difficult circumstances: Recalling the "Blessed Hope" of Christ’s return.

If you are struggling to find that peace, our podcasts often dive into these themes of finding God in the middle of the mess. Specifically, the A Way Out Podcast explores how faith provides a path through life's toughest challenges.

Authenticity and Self-Examination

The Bible encourages us to examine ourselves before we partake in communion. This isn't meant to be a moment of shame or a reason to stay away from the table. Instead, it’s an invitation to be honest.

God already knows our hearts. Self-examination is for our benefit. It’s a moment to ask:

  • Is there any unforgiveness I’m holding onto?

  • Have I let other things become more important than my relationship with Jesus?

  • Am I living in the reality of His grace, or am I trying to earn my way to heaven?

This process of "Sanctification" is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God. It’s a step-by-step journey of becoming more like Jesus. When we come to the table with a humble heart, we find that the cross is always enough to bridge the gap.

The Gospel: An Invitation for Everyone

If you are reading this and you’ve never made a decision to follow Jesus, today is the perfect day for a new beginning.

The Gospel is simple but life-changing:

  1. We all need Him: We have all sinned and fallen short of God’s perfect standard. That sin separates us from a holy God.

  2. He provided the way: God loved the world so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. He took the punishment we deserved.

  3. He is alive: Jesus didn't stay in the grave. He rose again, proving His power over death and sin.

  4. The gift is yours: Salvation isn't something you can earn by being "good." It is a free gift received through faith. By trusting in Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you are forgiven, made new, and given eternal life.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. If you want to know more about this life-changing relationship, please reach out. We are here to support you.

Unity in the Body

Finally, communion reminds us that we are not alone. Even if you are sitting by yourself in a room halfway across the world, when you partake in communion, you are joining a global family.

We are one body. We share one Spirit. We have one hope.

At Boundless Online Church, we strive to create spaces where people can connect and grow together, regardless of their physical location. You can find more ways to get involved or find resources on our sitemap.

Whether it's through our Bible studies or simply by reading these daily posts, you are part of something bigger.

A Moment of Reflection

As we wrap up today’s thought, I want to invite you to take a moment. Wherever you are, just breathe.

Think about the cross. Think about the boundless love that kept Jesus there: not the nails, but His love for you.

If you have some bread and juice (or even just water), perhaps take a moment to participate in communion right now. Ask the Holy Spirit to re-center your heart. Let the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding, guard your heart and mind today.

We are so glad you are here with us. Remember, no matter where you go today, you are loved, you are seen, and God’s grace is boundless.

If you have questions about communion, salvation, or how to grow in your faith, don't hesitate to ask. We love hearing from our community.
