Boundless Daily: Day 31: The Power of Persistent Prayer

We’ve made it to Day 31. If you’ve been following along with this series, you’ve spent a full month looking at how faith intersects with your daily life.

Maybe you started this journey with a specific request on your heart. Maybe you’re still waiting for that answer. If you are, today’s message is exactly for you.

We live in a world that loves "instant." We want high-speed internet, overnight shipping, and instant coffee. But faith doesn't usually work on a microwave timer. Sometimes, it’s a slow simmer.

Today, we’re talking about persistent prayer: the kind of prayer that keeps going even when the "no" feels loud or the silence feels long.

Why Do We Keep Asking?

There’s a common misconception that if we have to ask God for something more than once, it means we lack faith. Or worse, we think we’re annoying Him.

Have you ever felt like you were "bothering" God?

Maybe you think, "He’s got the whole universe to run; surely He doesn't want to hear about my struggle with my boss for the fiftieth time."

But the Bible tells us the exact opposite. In Luke 18:1, Jesus tells a story specifically so that his disciples would "always pray and not give up."

Jesus wouldn't tell us to keep asking if He didn't want to keep listening.

Persistent prayer isn't about badgering a reluctant God until He finally gives in. It’s about staying in communication with a loving Father who is working on things we can't see yet.

The Relational Shift

When we pray persistently, something shifts in our hearts. It moves from being a transaction to being a relationship.

Think about it this way: if God answered every single prayer the very second we uttered it, we might start treating Him like a cosmic vending machine. We’d drop in a prayer, get our "blessing," and go on our way.

But when we have to wait, and when we have to keep coming back to Him, we stay close. We stay in the conversation.

Persistent prayer keeps our eyes on the Giver rather than just the gift. It helps us develop a "spiritual focus" that keeps us grounded when life gets chaotic.

Whether you are working a late-night shift, caring for a family member in hospice, or living in a place where you feel isolated, prayer is your direct line. It’s the one thing that no one can take away from you.

Persistence and the 16 Fundamental Truths

At Boundless Online Church, we lean heavily into the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. These aren't just dry doctrines; they are the floorboards we walk on every day.

When we talk about persistent prayer, we are actually practicing Truth #9: Sanctification.

Sanctification is a fancy word for the process of being "set apart" for God. It’s not something that happens once; it’s a lifelong journey. Persistent prayer is the engine of that journey.

As we pray, the Holy Spirit works in us to align our desires with God’s will. We start asking for things that matter to His kingdom. We start seeing people the way He sees them.

We also see this in Truth #7: The Baptism in the Holy Spirit. We believe the Spirit empowers us for life and service. Sometimes, that empowerment looks like the "calm power" to stay on your knees when you’d rather give up.

The Spirit gives us the words when we don't know what to say, and the endurance to keep asking when we’re tired.

Watching for the Answer

One of the biggest benefits of staying persistent in prayer is that you become more alert.

When you’ve been praying for a specific situation for weeks or months, you start to notice the small "micro-answers" along the way.

Maybe the big problem hasn't been solved yet, but you noticed a small change in your own attitude. Or maybe a door opened that you didn't even know existed.

If we only pray once and then walk away, we often miss these details. We miss the way God is weaving a larger story.

Persistent prayer keeps your "spiritual eyes" open. It keeps you from falling into spiritual defeat. Jesus knew that if we stopped praying, we would grow discouraged.

Staying in the habit of prayer: even when it feels like nothing is happening: is how we fight off anxiety. It’s how we find that "peace that passes understanding" in the middle of a storm.

How to Stay Persistent When You’re Tired

It’s easy to say "just keep praying," but it’s harder to do when you’re exhausted. If you’re a caregiver, a student, or someone dealing with a chronic illness, your energy is limited.

Here are a few casual, practical ways to keep the conversation going:

  1. Keep it Short: You don't need to pray for an hour. A thirty-second "God, I’m still trusting You with this" counts.

  2. Use Your "Gaps": Pray while you’re waiting for the kettle to boil, while you’re driving to work, or during a break in your shift.

  3. Write it Down: Sometimes seeing your requests on paper (or a digital note) helps you remember that you aren't just talking to the ceiling. It gives you a record of your journey.

  4. Lean on Community: You don't have to pray alone. That’s why we have a digital community.

If you feel like your "prayer muscles" are weak, let us help carry the weight for a while. That’s what the church is for. We are a global family, and someone is always awake, somewhere, praying.

Meeting Jesus in the Silence

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. Sometimes, meeting Jesus happens most clearly in those quiet moments of persistent prayer.

In the cinematic landscape of your own life: maybe it’s a quiet room in the morning light or a dark breakroom at 3 AM: God is there. He isn't looking for perfect words or "churchy" language. He’s looking for you.

He honors the persistence. He sees the effort it takes to keep believing when the world tells you to move on.

Boundless Online Church is a ministry of FA Memphis. We are here to support you in this journey. Whether you’ve been a Christian for fifty years or you’re just now starting to ask questions about who Jesus is, you belong here.

Let’s Pray Together

If you’ve been carrying a heavy burden and you feel like you’re at the end of your rope, don't stop now. Day 31 is just another beginning.

Persistence isn't about your strength; it’s about God’s faithfulness. He is the one who began the good work in you, and He is the one who will see it through.

If you need a group to walk with, check out our Groups page or join us for Sunday Live Worship. You don’t have to do this by yourself.

We also have a Prayer Wall where you can post your requests and see others who are praying for you. There is something incredibly powerful about knowing you are part of a global "prayer chain" that never stops.

Don't let the silence convince you that God isn't moving. He’s working behind the scenes, aligning things you can't see, and strengthening your heart in the process.

Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking. The door is open.
