Living in victory doesn’t mean you never struggle.
It means you’re not stuck.
It means sin doesn’t get the final word, your past doesn’t get to define you, and your worst day isn’t the truest thing about you.
Today is Day 18 of our Boundless Daily: Global Micro-Study, and we’re focusing on AG Fundamental Truth #9: Sanctification, the Spirit-empowered, ongoing work of God that shapes us to look more like Jesus.
If you’re reading this from a hospital chair, a night shift break room, a quiet apartment, or a place where faith is risky… you’re not alone. Let’s take one small step today toward real victory.
The big idea: Victory is a life God grows in you
A lot of us hear “victory” and think:
“I should be past this by now.”
“If I was really strong, I wouldn’t have cravings or anxiety.”
“If I was truly free, temptation wouldn’t show up.”
But Scripture paints a different picture.
Victory isn’t the absence of a fight. Victory is the presence of a Savior and a transforming Spirit.
Sanctification means God doesn’t just forgive you, He forms you.
Not in a harsh, perfectionistic way.
In a steady, loving, day-by-day way that actually holds up in real life.
AG Truth #9 (Sanctification) in everyday language
In Assemblies of God teaching, sanctification is described as:
An act of separation from that which is evil
A dedication unto God
Made possible through identification with Christ in His death and resurrection
And through the power of the Holy Spirit living in us
Here’s how that lands on Tuesday morning:
Sanctification is when the Holy Spirit starts shifting your “default settings.”
Your reactions. Your habits. Your thought patterns. Your appetite for what is holy. Your ability to forgive. Your courage to say no. Your strength to get back up.
Not because you’re “trying harder,” but because God is doing something deeper than willpower.
A simple picture: “I’m forgiven” vs. “I’m becoming”
Justification (being made right with God) answers: “Am I forgiven?” Yes, through faith in Jesus.
Sanctification answers: “Am I being changed?” Yes, through the Holy Spirit over time.
If you’ve ever wondered:
“Why do I still feel pulled toward old stuff?”
“Why do I still get irritated so fast?”
“Why do I still battle shame even after I repented?”
That question doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It may mean you’re in the middle of the process.
And the process is not pointless. It’s proof you’re alive in Christ.
Scripture for today: a victory mindset that stays humble
Here are a few anchors for your heart today:
Romans 6:11 (NIV) “Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”
Galatians 5:16 (NIV) “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Philippians 1:6 (NIV) “…he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…”
Notice what’s happening:
You count yourself alive (that’s identity).
You walk by the Spirit (that’s daily dependence).
God carries the work (that’s His faithfulness).
Victory is not pretending temptation doesn’t exist.
Victory is choosing to live from your new identity, one step at a time, with the Spirit’s help.
What “living in victory” can look like today (not someday)
Let’s get super practical.
Living in victory might look like:
You pause before you clap back.
You confess quickly instead of hiding.
You ask for help instead of isolating.
You worship when you don’t “feel” holy.
You shut down the spiral and replace it with truth.
You make a clean choice that nobody sees, except God.
Victory is often quiet.
It’s the moment you decide: “I don’t belong to that anymore.”
Not because you’re better than anyone else.
Because Jesus bought you, and the Spirit is changing you.
Three sanctification shifts that lead to real freedom
1) From “white-knuckling” to “walking with the Spirit”
White-knuckling says: “I can’t mess up.”
Walking with the Spirit says: “God, lead me right now.”
A small prayer you can breathe all day:
“Holy Spirit, guide my next decision.”
If you’re trying to defeat sin without depending on the Spirit, you’ll feel exhausted and ashamed.
But when the Spirit leads, you get something deeper than behavior management, you get transformation.
2) From shame-based change to love-based change
Shame says: “You are disgusting. God is disappointed.”
The gospel says: “You are loved. Jesus paid. Now let’s grow.”
Conviction draws you closer to God. Shame drives you away from Him.
Sanctification is not God standing over you with a clipboard.
It’s God walking with you like a Father, teaching you how to live free.
If you fell again, don’t run from God.
Run to Him.
3) From “instant perfection” to “faithful progress”
Some days you’ll feel like you took ten steps forward.
Other days you’ll feel like you slid back.
Progress in sanctification is often measured in:
longer pauses before sin
quicker repentance after sin
softer words with people you love
less rationalizing
more hunger for Scripture
more sensitivity to what grieves the Spirit
more compassion toward others who struggle
Don’t despise small beginnings.
God loves “seed” work.
Micro-study: five questions for your journal (or your notes app)
If you’ve got 5–7 minutes, work through these:
Where do I most want victory right now? (Be specific.)
What usually triggers the struggle? (Time, place, people, fatigue, stress.)
What is one “next-right step” I can take today?
What truth from Scripture do I need to repeat when temptation hits?
Who can I invite into this with me (even one person)?
You don’t have to answer perfectly.
Just honestly.
God can work with honest.
A quick word for people in heavy seasons
If you’re caring for someone, grieving, living with chronic pain, rebuilding after trauma, or dealing with unsafe circumstances, you may not have the energy for “big changes.”
Living in victory in a heavy season might look like:
choosing not to numb your pain in ways that destroy you
setting one small boundary
asking God for strength for the next hour, not the next decade
staying connected to faith even when you feel spiritually tired
Sanctification is not God demanding more from you than you can carry.
It’s God supplying strength you don’t have on your own.
How the Holy Spirit helps you live this (not just read about it)
In AG life and doctrine, we don’t treat the Holy Spirit like a distant idea.
The Spirit is a present Helper: teaching, strengthening, convicting, empowering.
If you want a simple way to cooperate with sanctification, try this daily rhythm:
Surrender: “Jesus, I belong to You.”
Ask: “Holy Spirit, fill me and lead me.”
Replace: swap one lie with one truth from Scripture
Obey: do one clear thing God is nudging you to do
Obedience is not how you earn love.
It’s how love shows up in real life.
A prayer for today: “Jesus, teach me how to win”
Jesus, thank You for saving me and setting me apart for You. I admit I can’t change myself by force.
Holy Spirit, help me walk in victory today. Show me where I’ve been agreeing with sin, shame, or old patterns. Give me power to choose what honors You.
When I’m tempted, remind me who I am in Christ. When I fail, lead me to repent quickly and receive Your cleansing. Keep shaping me into the likeness of Jesus: one day at a time.
Amen.
