Boundless Daily: Jesus, More Than a Teacher

If you walk into a coffee shop or scroll through social media and ask people what they think about Jesus, you’ll get a lot of positive vibes. Most people are "cool" with Jesus. They see him as a revolutionary, a philosopher, or a really great moral teacher who told us to love our neighbors.

It’s a safe version of Jesus. A version that fits nicely on a bumper sticker or a greeting card. But here is the thing: Jesus didn't give us the option to just call him a "good teacher."

When we look at the core of what we believe: specifically looking at the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ: we find someone much more radical, much more powerful, and much more demanding than just a guy with good advice.

The Identity Crisis

There’s a famous argument often used in Christian circles: Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or he is exactly who he said he was: Lord. If a person walked around today claiming to be the Creator of the universe and the only way to reach God, we wouldn’t just call them a "good teacher." We’d probably think they needed serious help, or we’d be offended by their arrogance.

Jesus made these claims. He didn't just teach about the way to God; he said, "I am the way." He didn't just talk about truth; he said, "I am the truth."

In the Assemblies of God, we hold to Truth #3: The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. This isn't just a dusty theological term. It’s the bedrock of everything we do at Boundless Online Church. It means that when you look at Jesus, you are looking at God in the flesh.

More Than Just Information

Most teachers want to give you information. They want you to learn a math formula, a historical date, or a better way to manage your time. Jesus, however, was after something much deeper. He wasn't just transferring facts from his mind to ours; he was looking to transform our very souls.

The word "educate" comes from a Latin root meaning "to lead out." This is exactly what Jesus does. He doesn't just give us a map; he takes us by the hand and leads us out of darkness, out of shame, and out of the "stuck" places in our lives.

Think about the people Jesus met. He didn't just give the fisherman a lecture on biology; he changed their purpose. He didn't just give the woman at the well a theology degree; he gave her "living water" that healed her heart.

When we realize that Jesus is God, his teaching takes on a whole new weight. It’s no longer a suggestion; it’s a lifeline.

Authority Over Everything

If Jesus were just a man, his words would be limited by his human experience. But because he is the eternal Son of God, his authority covers everything.

We see this in the stories of the New Testament. He didn't just pray for the storm to stop; he commanded it. He didn't just hope the sick would get better; he spoke healing into existence. He even did the one thing that the religious leaders of his time found absolutely unforgivable: he forgave sins.

Only God can forgive sins committed against God. By doing this, Jesus was making his identity crystal clear. He was asserting his divine nature in every street he walked and every life he touched.

Why the Resurrection Changes the Conversation

You can follow the teachings of many great leaders from history. You can read the works of Plato, the sayings of Confucius, or the speeches of modern activists. You can learn from them and respect them. But all of those leaders have one thing in common: they stayed in the grave.

The resurrection is the ultimate "receipt" for Jesus' claims. It is the proof that he wasn't just a gifted speaker or a martyr for a cause. If Jesus stayed dead, he was just another teacher who met a tragic end. But because he rose, he is the Lord of life.

This is why we celebrate his deity. A dead teacher can’t hear your prayers tonight. A dead philosopher can’t give you peace when you’re working the late shift and feeling overwhelmed. But a living God can.

The Message and the Messenger

In most cases, you can separate a teacher from their message. You can enjoy a great song without knowing the songwriter. You can learn physics without knowing anything about the professor’s personal life.

With Jesus, the messenger and the message are inseparable. He is the message.

He didn't just come to show us how to be better people; he came to rescue us because we couldn’t be "better" on our own. He offered himself as the perfect model for humanity because he was the only one who could actually live it out perfectly. He invites us to "Follow me," not just "Listen to my ideas."

What This Means for You Today

Whether you are a long-time believer or just someone looking for answers, the deity of Jesus is the pivot point for your life.

If Jesus is God, it means:

  • You are never alone. The Creator of the stars knows your name and is present with you right now.

  • Your past doesn't define you. Because he has the authority to forgive, you can start fresh today.

  • There is hope in every situation. If he can defeat death, he can handle whatever you are facing.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. That journey starts with acknowledging that he is so much more than a "good man." He is the Savior who loves you enough to come looking for you.

A Simple Invitation

Maybe you’ve been holding Jesus at arm’s length, treating him like a historical figure or a moral guide. Today is a great day to lean in and ask him to reveal himself to you as Lord.

You don't need to have it all figured out. You don't need to be "religious." You just need to be willing to listen.

At Boundless, we are a community of people who are all learning what it means to follow the living Christ. We’d love for you to explore more with us. You can check out our Bible studies or join the conversation in our welcome center.

Do you have questions about who Jesus is? Are you wondering how his divinity actually impacts your daily grind? We’d love to chat with you about it. There are no "dumb" questions here.
