Ever feel like you’re trying to run a marathon while holding your breath?
Life can be heavy. Whether you’re working the graveyard shift, caring for a loved one around the clock, or just trying to navigate a world that feels increasingly chaotic, we all hit a wall eventually. We try to be kind, we try to stay patient, and we try to keep our faith strong, but sometimes the "tank" just feels empty.
If you’ve ever felt like your spiritual life was missing a certain "spark" or the strength to keep going, you aren't alone. In fact, the first followers of Jesus felt the exact same way.
That’s where the Baptism in the Holy Spirit comes in. At Boundless Online Church, we believe this isn’t just an old story from a history book: it’s a current, vibrant promise for you today. It is what we call "Power for the Journey."
What Are We Talking About?
In the Assemblies of God, we point back to what we call the 16 Fundamental Truths. Truth #7 focuses specifically on the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.
Simply put, it’s an experience where God pours out His Spirit upon a believer to empower them for life and service.
Jesus didn’t want His friends to go out into the world empty-handed. In the book of Acts, right before He went back to heaven, He told them to wait. He said, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8).
Notice the word He used: Power.

It’s a Gift, Not a Wage
One of the most important things to remember about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is that it is a gift. You don’t "earn" it by being the most "religious" person in the room. You don’t get it by checking off a list of good deeds.
It’s a promise from the Father.
Think of it like this: When you choose to follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside you. That’s your "well" of salvation. It’s what gives you new life. But the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is like that well overflowing. It’s an immersion.
It’s the difference between having a glass of water to drink and standing under a waterfall. Both involve water, but one is about internal life, and the other is about being completely overwhelmed and empowered by God’s presence.
Why Do We Need This "Power"?
You might be thinking, "I already love Jesus. Why do I need anything else?"
That’s a fair question! The Baptism in the Holy Spirit isn't about making you "more saved." You are already a child of God the moment you put your trust in Christ. Instead, this experience is about mission.
It provides:
1. Boldness for the Journey The disciples were scared. They were hiding in a room with the doors locked. But after they were filled with the Spirit, they walked right out into the streets and started telling everyone about Jesus. The Spirit gives you a "holy nudge" to speak up when you’d usually stay quiet.
2. A Deeper Prayer Life Sometimes we don’t even have the words to pray. We’re too tired or too heartbroken. The Holy Spirit helps us communicate with God on a deeper level, bridging the gap between our hearts and heaven.
3. Spiritual Gifts The Spirit brings "tools" for the job. These are gifts like wisdom, healing, and special encouragement that help us serve the people around us more effectively.
4. A Closer Walk When you walk in the power of the Spirit, God’s Word starts to jump off the page. Your worship feels more personal. You start to notice God moving in the "mundane" moments of your day: at the grocery store, in the hospital waiting room, or during your commute.

Is This For Me?
Maybe you’ve heard about the Holy Spirit and thought it was only for "super-Christians" or people who have it all together.
The truth is, this promise is for everyone. It’s for the stay-at-home parent who is exhausted. It’s for the student facing massive pressure. It’s for the person in a part of the world where it isn't safe to go to a physical church building.
In Acts 2, Peter stood up and said, "The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off: for all whom the Lord our God will call."
If God has called you, this promise has your name on it. He doesn’t want you to live your faith on "low battery" mode. He wants to plug you into the source of all power.
How Do I Receive?
If you feel a pull in your heart to experience more of God, the "how" is actually very simple.
First, you have to want it. The Bible uses words like "ardently expect" and "earnestly seek." It’s about coming to God with open hands and saying, "Lord, I need Your power. I can't do this on my own."
Second, you just ask. Jesus said that if earthly parents know how to give good gifts to their kids, how much more will the Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him? (Luke 11:13).
There’s no "right" way to feel or a specific formula to follow. Some people experience it during a quiet time of prayer. Others experience it during a worship service. The "initial physical evidence" that we see in the Bible is speaking in tongues, which is a beautiful, spiritual language that allows you to talk to God beyond your own understanding.
But the most important thing is the result: a life that is changed, empowered, and ready to share the love of Jesus with a hurting world.

Walking it Out
Receiving the Baptism in the Holy Spirit isn't a "one and done" event that you put on a shelf. It’s the start of a new way of walking.
We are called to be "continually filled." Just like a lamp needs to stay plugged into the outlet to keep glowing, we need to stay connected to the Spirit every single day.
Maybe today your "journey" feels uphill. Maybe you feel like you’re running on fumes. Take a moment right now: wherever you are: and just invite the Holy Spirit to fill you up.
Ask Him for the strength to get through your shift. Ask Him for the words to say to a struggling friend. Ask Him to make Jesus feel closer than He ever has before.
We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. This growth isn't something we do by trying harder; it’s something we do by surrendering to the One who has all the power we’ll ever need.
