Boundless Daily: Repentance

Have you ever felt like you were walking down a long, dark hallway with no exit in sight?

Maybe life has felt a bit heavy lately.

Maybe you’ve made choices that you aren’t proud of, and that weight is starting to press down on your chest every time you try to sleep.

We’ve all been there.

Whether you are working the late shift in a quiet warehouse, sitting by a hospital bed as a caregiver, or living in a place where you have to keep your faith a secret, we all hit moments where we realize we are going the wrong way.

The good news? There is a door.

It’s called repentance.

And at Boundless Online Church, we believe it isn’t a scary, "shouty" word. It’s actually the door to the most incredible freedom you’ll ever experience.

What is Repentance, Really?

In many movies, repentance is shown as someone wearing sackcloth and ashes, crying in the rain.

But in the Bible, the word for repentance is metanoia.

It literally means "a change of mind."

It’s a U-turn.

Imagine you’re driving toward a cliff. You see the warning signs, but you keep going. Repentance is the moment you realize the danger, hit the brakes, and turn the steering wheel 180 degrees.

It’s not just feeling bad about where you’re going. It’s actually deciding to go somewhere else.

A Fresh Start with God

According to the Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths, which we hold dear here at Boundless, salvation is a gift.

It’s not something you earn by being "good enough."

Our fourth Fundamental Truth states that man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

How do we get that? It’s simple, but it’s profound:

  1. Repentance toward God.

  2. Faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ.

When we repent, we aren’t just saying "I'm sorry" for a mistake. We are acknowledging that our way of living, trying to be our own boss, isn't working. We are turning away from our own path and turning toward God’s path.

It’s the ultimate fresh start.

If you’ve been looking for a "reset" button for your life, this is it.

Why We Need the Door

Let’s be honest: the world is a messy place.

We see it in the news, and we see it in our own hearts. The Bible tells us that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

Sin isn't just a list of "no-nos." It's anything that separates us from the source of life, God Himself.

When we live in sin, we are living in a state of separation. It feels like a thirst that can't be quenched. It feels like a hunger that never goes away.

Repentance is the act of coming home.

It’s like the story of the Prodigal Son. He wasted everything he had. He was sitting in a pig pen, starving and alone. But then he "came to his senses."

That moment of realization? That was the start of repentance. He got up and walked back to his father.

And what did the father do? He didn’t wait for a long explanation. He didn’t give him a lecture. He ran to him.

God is ready to run toward you the moment you turn around.

The Daily Rhythm of Freedom

While there is a "Big Turn" when we first meet Jesus, repentance is also a daily practice.

For those of us living busy lives, maybe you’re balancing three jobs or dealing with chronic illness, it’s easy for the "dust" of the world to settle on our hearts.

Daily repentance keeps our relationship with Jesus fresh.

It’s not about groveling. It’s about staying honest.

It’s saying, "Lord, I lost my temper today. I’m turning back to Your peace." Or, "Lord, I let anxiety take the wheel today. I’m turning back to Your trust."

As we researched the concept of daily repentance, we found that it’s less about a single event and more about "doing and being a little better each day."

It’s about keeping "short accounts" with God. Don’t let the guilt pile up. Just turn. Immediately.

The Power of the Gospel

You might be wondering, "Why does God even want me back?"

The answer is the Gospel.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, lived a perfect life, died on a cross for our sins, and rose again on the third day. He took the punishment we deserved so that we could have the life we don’t deserve.

When we repent, we are basically saying, "Jesus, I believe Your sacrifice was enough for me. I’m trading my mess for Your mercy."

That is the most powerful exchange in history.

You give Him your guilt; He gives you His peace. You give Him your past; He gives you a future.

How Do I Start?

If you are seeking a fresh start today, you don’t need a fancy prayer or a special building.

You can do it right where you are.

1. Be Honest. Tell God exactly where you are. He already knows, but saying it out loud (or in your heart) breaks the power of the secret. Confess that you’ve been going your own way.

2. Ask for Forgiveness. Believe that Jesus died for that specific mistake, that specific habit, that specific weight. Ask Him to wash you clean.

3. Make the Turn. Decide today that you are going to follow Him. It doesn't mean you'll be perfect, but it means your direction has changed.

4. Walk in the Spirit. In the Assemblies of God, we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to help us live this new life. You don't have to stay changed on your own strength. God provides the power.

If you’re new to all of this and want to learn more about who we are and how we follow Jesus, check out our I'm New page. We’d love to walk this journey with you.

You Are Not Alone

Living for God in a world that often goes the other way can be tough.

That’s why we created Boundless Online Church. We want to be a community for the people who don't fit into the traditional Sunday morning box.

Whether you're listening to our podcasts while driving a truck across the country or watching a study during your lunch break, we are here for you.

Repentance isn't a one-time exit; it's the door to a room where you are always welcome. It's the beginning of a life where you never have to carry your burdens by yourself again.

A Prayer for Today

If you want to make that turn right now, you can pray something like this:

"Lord Jesus, I admit that I’ve been going my own way. I’ve tried to handle life on my own, and I’m tired. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I repent of my old life and I turn to You. Please forgive me, fill me with Your Spirit, and show me how to walk with You. Thank You for the fresh start. Amen."

If you just prayed that, or if you just need someone to talk to, we want to hear from you. We have people ready to stand with you in prayer.

Need prayer? Text 1-901-213-7341 (message & data rates may apply). Not for emergencies.

We are so glad you’re here. Remember, no matter where you've been or what you've done, the door to freedom is open.
