Boundless Daily: Resting in His Sovereignty

Hey there. Welcome to another edition of Boundless Daily. I’m so glad you’ve taken a moment out of your busy schedule to sit with us for a few minutes.

Life has a way of feeling incredibly loud lately, doesn’t it? Between the headlines, the demands of work, and the personal "what-ifs" that keep us up at night, finding a moment of genuine peace can feel like trying to catch the wind with your bare hands.

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the uncertainty of tomorrow, you’re in the right place. Today, we’re diving into a micro-study about one of the most comforting truths in the Bible: the sovereignty of God.

We’re talking about what it looks like to truly rest when you don't have all the answers.

What Does Sovereignty Actually Mean?

When we use the word "sovereignty," it can sound a bit academic or "churchy." But in simple terms, it means that God is the King. It means He is in control, He has the final say, and nothing happens outside of His knowledge or His reach.

In our Assemblies of God tradition, we lean heavily on the "16 Fundamental Truths." One of the core pillars is our belief in the One True God: the Creator of all things. When we talk about His sovereignty, we’re acknowledging that the One who made the stars is the same One who is looking after your Tuesday afternoon.

Sovereignty isn't just a theological concept to win an argument; it’s a pillow for a weary head. It means that while the world might feel chaotic to us, it isn't chaotic to Him. There is no "Plan B" with God. He isn't in heaven pacing the floors, wondering how things turned out this way.

He is seated on the throne. And because He is there, we can be here, in peace.

Peace in the "I Don't Know"

Most of our stress comes from the "I don't know" moments.

I don't know if the job is secure. I don't know if the health report will be good. I don't know how the kids are going to turn out.

Uncertainty is the breeding ground for anxiety. But resting in God’s sovereignty changes the question. Instead of asking, "What is going to happen?" we start asking, "Who is in charge of what happens?"

Think about a small child in the back seat of a car during a massive thunderstorm. The rain is lashing against the windows, the wind is howling, and the child can’t see the road. But if they look up and see their parent calmly driving, they often fall right back asleep.

They don't need to know the GPS coordinates or how the engine works. They just need to know the person at the wheel.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online because we know that when you meet the Driver, the storm doesn't feel quite so scary.

The Anchor in the Storm

There’s a famous story in the Gospels where Jesus is in a boat with His disciples. A huge storm kicks up: the kind that makes seasoned fishermen think they’re going to die. And where is Jesus? He’s asleep on a cushion.

The disciples wake Him up, terrified, asking, "Don't you care that we’re drowning?"

Jesus stands up, tells the wind and the waves to "Hush," and everything goes still. But before the silence even settles, He asks them a question: "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"

A couple finds peace reading the Bible inside a bright home while a storm rages outside.

It’s a tough question, but a kind one. Jesus wasn't sleeping because He didn't care. He was sleeping because He knew exactly who was in control. He was resting in the sovereignty of His Father.

When we understand that God is sovereign, we can "sleep in the boat" even when the waves are high. We don't have to wait for the storm to stop to find peace. Peace is found in the presence of the One who rules the storm.

Truths to Hold Onto

If you are looking for solid ground today, here are a few things we know to be true based on the Word of God:

  1. God is Omniscient: He knows everything. He knows the end from the beginning. Your "suddenly" wasn't a surprise to Him.

  2. God is Omnipotent: He has all power. There is no situation too messy for Him to clean up and no heart too broken for Him to mend.

  3. God is Good: This is the most important part. Sovereignty without goodness would be terrifying. But our King is a Shepherd. His power is always directed by His love.

At Boundless Online Church, we focus on these truths because they are the foundation of a life that can't be shaken. Whether you are a shift worker catching this post at 3:00 AM, a caregiver looking for a moment of quiet, or someone living in a place where it isn't safe to go to a physical church building: these truths are for you.

Practice: How to Actually Rest

So, how do we move this from our heads to our hearts? How do we actually rest?

1. Release the Grip A lot of our exhaustion comes from trying to control things we were never meant to carry. Imagine you are holding a heavy suitcase in each hand. To rest, you have to set them down. Prayer is the act of setting the suitcases down at God’s feet.

2. Limit the Noise If you are struggling with uncertainty, stop feeding the uncertainty. Constant news cycles and social media scrolling can amplify fear. Spend more time in the Word than you do on the "World." The Bible Studies section of our site has some great resources to help you refocus.

3. Speak the Truth When your mind starts to race with "what-ifs," speak the truth out loud. "God, I don't know what’s going to happen, but I know You are sovereign. I know You love me. I trust You." There is power in declaring His Lordship over your situation.

A Global Family

One of the beautiful things about being a "Boundless" church is that we aren't limited by geography. We have brothers and sisters in Christ all over the world who are leaning on the same sovereignty today.

If you're feeling isolated, remember that you are part of a global community. We are all navigating different uncertainties, but we are all anchored to the same Rock.

If you’ve never really explored what it means to have a relationship with Jesus, or if you’ve been away from faith for a while, we’d love to help you take that next step. You don’t have to have your life together to come to Him. You just have to come.

Let’s Connect

We want to hear from you. What is one area of your life where you need to trust God’s sovereignty today? Is there a "storm" in your life where you need to hear Him say, "Peace, be still"?

Asking questions and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. We are here to walk alongside you as you grow in your faith.
