Have you ever felt like the ground beneath your feet was suddenly made of sand?
One moment, everything is stable. You have your routine, your plans, and your rhythm. Then, a phone call, a health report, or a sudden change in your job status happens.
Suddenly, everything is shaking.
If you’re reading this while working a late shift, sitting in a hospital waiting room, or perhaps in a place where following Jesus isn't easy, I want you to know something.
You aren't meant to survive the shaking on your own.
In this Boundless Daily Micro-Study, we’re looking at what it means to have a faith that doesn’t just "hold on," but stands firm. This is about resilience. Not the kind of resilience the world talks about: which is often just "trying harder": but the spiritual resilience that comes from being rooted in something that cannot be moved.
Why We Shake
We live in a world that is inherently unstable.
As a community at Boundless Online Church, we see this every day. Our church family spans the globe. We have people joining us from quiet suburbs and people joining us from high-pressure urban centers where life moves at a breakneck pace.
The "shaking" usually comes from two places: the world around us and the heart within us.
The world provides external pressure. It’s the economy, the news, or family conflict.
The heart provides internal pressure. It’s the doubt, the fear, or the exhaustion that whispers, "I can't do this anymore."
But here is the good news. Resilience isn’t about the absence of the storm. It’s about the presence of the Foundation.

The Only Foundation That Holds
In the Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths, we hold firmly to the authority of the Bible. It’s our "all-sufficient rule for faith and practice."
When Jesus talked about standing firm, He used a very famous illustration in Matthew 7. He spoke about two builders. One built on sand, and one built on the rock.
The interesting thing is that the storm hit both houses.
The person who builds their life on the teachings of Jesus doesn't get a pass on the rain. They don't get a "no-wind" guarantee. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew on the house built on the rock, too.
The difference wasn't the weather. The difference was the foundation.
Standing firm when you are shaken starts with deciding what you are standing on. Are you standing on your own ability to keep it all together? Or are you standing on the finished work of Jesus Christ?
If you're new to this idea of building on a spiritual foundation, you can learn more about our journey on our I'm New page.
The Power of the Holy Spirit in Resilience
Resilience isn't just a mental game. It’s a spiritual empowerment.
One of our core beliefs involves the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. We believe this isn't just a historical event from the book of Acts, but a current reality for every believer.
Why does this matter for resilience?
Because the Holy Spirit is often referred to as the "Comforter" or the "Helper." In the original language, that word implies someone who is called alongside to give strength.
Imagine trying to hold a heavy door shut against a gale-force wind. Your muscles are aching. Your grip is slipping. Then, someone stronger than you steps up, puts their hands over yours, and adds their weight to the door.
That is what the Holy Spirit does for our faith.
When you feel like you're shaking, you don't have to conjure up more "willpower." You can ask for Spirit-empowerment. It’s that "calm power" that allows a person to stay peaceful even when the world is chaotic.
Practical Steps to Stay Rooted
So, how do we actually do this? How do we practice resilience on a Tuesday morning at 3:00 AM when we're tired?
1. Anchor your mind in Truth. The world is very loud. If the first thing you do when you feel shaken is check social media or the news, you’re just adding more sand to your foundation. Instead, go to the Word. Even one verse, like Psalm 62:2: "Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken": can change your internal climate.
2. Connect with the Body. We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. Part of that growth is realizing you aren't a solo act. We are a global church. When you are weak, the prayers of others can help hold you up. This is why we value our Sunday Live Worship and our digital gatherings.
3. Practice "The Pause." When the shaking starts, our instinct is to run or react. Resilience involves pausing. It’s taking a breath and acknowledging that God is still on the throne. This is a core part of spiritual maturity.

Resilience for the Weary
We know that many of you reading this are caregivers. You might be looking after an aging parent or a child with special needs. You are the "strong one" for everyone else.
But who holds you up?
Resilience for the caregiver isn't about never crying or never feeling overwhelmed. It’s about knowing that your "inner man" is being renewed day by day.
We believe in Divine Healing: another of our 16 Fundamental Truths. We believe God cares about your physical and emotional well-being just as much as your spiritual state. He sees the late nights. He sees the silent sacrifices.
If you’re feeling at the end of your rope today, we want to stand with you.
A Global Perspective on Standing Firm
At Boundless Online Church, we are mindful of our brothers and sisters in parts of the world where standing firm in faith carries a high physical cost.
For them, resilience isn't a lifestyle choice; it's a daily necessity.
Their example teaches us that faith is most visible when things are most difficult. When a person stays kind in a cruel environment, or hopeful in a hopeless situation, people notice.
That is the mission of the Church. We aren't just here to survive the shaking; we are here to be a lighthouse for others who are being tossed around by the waves.

Looking Ahead
One of the reasons we can stand firm is because we know how the story ends.
Our faith is anchored in the "Blessed Hope": the resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord.
When you have an eternal perspective, the "shakings" of this life start to look a little different. They are temporary. They are "light and momentary afflictions" compared to the glory that is coming.
That doesn't mean they don't hurt. It just means they don't have the final word.
Next Steps for You
If you're feeling shaken today, I want to invite you to do three things.
First, take a moment to be still. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with a peace that passes understanding.
Second, get into the Word. If you don't know where to start, check out our Clarion Call Bible Study for resources that can help you dig deeper into the Truths that provide a solid foundation.
Third, reach out. You don't have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.
