Building Faith at Home With Your Kids
Category: Family Faith
Search line: Want to help your kids know God at home? Five simple habits any family can start this week, with no special tools.
Scripture: "And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children." Deuteronomy 6:7 (KJV)
Kids learn faith the same way they learn everything else at home. They watch you. They hear what you say when life is hard. They notice if God is real to you on a Tuesday, not just on a Sunday.
You do not need a perfect plan. You need a few habits you can keep.
One, read a short Bible story together, even just a few verses. Two, pray at meals and at bedtime, in plain words your kids can copy. Three, when you make a mistake, say sorry to your kids and to God, right in front of them. That teaches more than a long talk. Four, sing or play one worship song in the car or the kitchen. Five, once a week, ask each child, what is one thing we can thank God for, and one thing we can pray about?
Keep it short. Keep it kind. Keep it going. If you miss a day, start again the next day. God works through small seeds planted over a long time.
Prayer: Lord, help us make our home a place where Your name is welcome and Your Word is read. Amen.
