Yes. God's power to heal hasn't changed since biblical times. The same Jesus who healed the sick in Galilee is alive and working in Memphis today. Divine healing remains a core belief of the Christian faith, and countless believers in the 901 have experienced His healing touch through prayer, faith, and the ministry of the church.
Maybe you're sitting in a doctor's office, or you're driving across town wondering if God really cares about your physical pain. Maybe you've been praying for healing for months, or years, and you're starting to wonder if divine healing is even real.
Let me be straight with you: Yes, God can still heal your body. And yes, He's doing it right here in Memphis.
What the Bible Actually Says About Healing
The Assemblies of God has always held firmly to the doctrine of divine healing, it's one of our 16 Fundamental Truths. This isn't some feel-good add-on to Christianity. It's woven throughout Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.
Isaiah 53:5 tells us something powerful: "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
This isn't just spiritual healing. Jesus paid the price for both our sins AND our sicknesses on the cross. When He bore our sins, He also bore our diseases. That's the foundation of divine healing, it's part of the atonement, part of what Jesus purchased for us at Calvary.

James 5:14-15 gives us the practical application: "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up."
Notice what James doesn't say. He doesn't say "maybe" or "if it's God's will" or "only if you're spiritual enough." He says the prayer of faith will make the sick person well. That's a promise, not a possibility.
Healing in Jesus' Ministry
When you read through the Gospels, it's impossible to miss how central healing was to Jesus' earthly ministry. He didn't just preach, He healed. Blind eyes opened. Deaf ears heard. Paralyzed people walked. Lepers were cleansed. Even the dead were raised.
And here's what blows my mind: Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). The Jesus who healed in first-century Jerusalem is the same Jesus who's alive in twenty-first-century Memphis. His power hasn't diminished. His compassion hasn't faded. His ability to heal hasn't changed.
How God Heals Today
Now, let's talk about how this actually works in real life, because I know some of you are thinking, "That's great theology, but I'm still sick."
God heals in multiple ways:
Through prayer. Sometimes healing is instantaneous when hands are laid on you and prayers are offered.
Through medical care. God gave us doctors, nurses, and medicine for a reason. There's no conflict between praying for healing and seeing your physician. God can work through both supernatural intervention and natural means.
Through time and process. Not every healing is instant. Sometimes God heals gradually, strengthening your body day by day as you trust Him and follow wisdom.
Through faith and persistence. Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep gathering with other believers who will stand in faith with you.

Why Doesn't Everyone Get Healed?
This is the hard question, and honestly, I don't have all the answers. Neither does anyone else, despite what they might claim.
Here's what I do know: We live in a fallen world where sickness, disease, and death are real consequences of sin entering creation. While Jesus defeated sin and death on the cross, we won't experience the fullness of that victory until He returns and makes all things new.
Some people receive instantaneous healing. Others experience gradual restoration. Some walk through suffering with God's grace and peace sustaining them every step. And yes, some faithful believers aren't healed this side of heaven, though they will receive perfect, glorified bodies in eternity.
Does that mean God doesn't care? Absolutely not. Does it mean we shouldn't pray for healing? Never. We pray because God invites us to, because He promises to hear us, and because we've seen Him move in power.
The answer to "Why wasn't I healed?" isn't simple, and anyone who gives you a formula is selling something. But the answer to "Can God heal?" is always yes.
Healing Prayer at First Assembly Memphis
Here in the 901, we take divine healing seriously. We believe in it, we pray for it, and we've witnessed it.
If you're dealing with physical illness or pain, we'd love to pray with you. That's not just a religious nicety, we genuinely believe prayer changes things. You can submit a prayer request through our website, or better yet, connect with us in person so we can lay hands on you and pray according to James 5.
There's something powerful about gathering with other believers who will stand in faith with you. You weren't meant to walk through sickness alone. The body of Christ exists to carry one another's burdens, and that includes praying for physical healing.

What to Do If You're Sick
If you're reading this from a hospital room, or you're managing a chronic condition while trying to live your life in the Memphis area, here's what I'd encourage you:
Pray boldly. Don't be timid about asking God for healing. He's not offended by your desperation. Come to Him honestly, urgently, persistently.
Get medical help. See your doctor. Follow treatment plans. Take your medication. God isn't competing with modern medicine, He created the people who practice it.
Gather your faith community. Call the church. Ask for prayer. Let people anoint you with oil and petition God on your behalf. There's power in corporate prayer that goes beyond individual faith.
Stand on Scripture. Meditate on God's promises about healing. Let Isaiah 53:5 and James 5:14-15 build your faith. Read through the Gospels and watch Jesus heal person after person.
Trust God's heart. Even when healing doesn't come the way you hoped, God is still good. His love for you isn't measured by whether you're healed, it's demonstrated by the cross. He's with you in the suffering, not distant from it.
You're Not Alone in This
Whether you're battling cancer, chronic pain, or an unexpected diagnosis, you don't have to face it alone. The church in Memphis is here, not just as a Sunday morning destination, but as a family that prays together, believes together, and trusts God together.
We don't have all the answers, but we have a God who heals, a Savior who bore our sicknesses, and a Spirit who empowers us to pray in faith. And that's enough to bring our needs before Him with confidence.
God can heal your body in Memphis. He's done it before, He's doing it now, and He'll keep doing it until Jesus returns and wipes away every tear, every pain, and every disease forever.
