To volunteer at First Assembly Memphis, you can sign up online via our serve page or visit the Connect Center during our Sunday services. We have opportunities in kids' ministry, local outreach, youth, and hospitality for anyone looking to serve the 901 and beyond.
If you’ve been attending First Assembly Memphis for a while, you’ve likely felt the warmth of our community. That warmth isn't just a result of a friendly atmosphere; it’s the result of hundreds of hands and hearts working together to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Whether you are in Cordova, Bartlett, Arlington, or right in the heart of Memphis, there is a unique place for you to serve.
At FA Memphis, we believe that saved people serve people. Service isn't just a chore or a "church job", it’s a spiritual practice that helps us grow closer to God and to each other. When we serve, we aren't just filling a slot on a schedule; we are participating in the Kingdom of God.
Why Serving is Central to Our Faith
In the Assemblies of God tradition, we emphasize the role of the Holy Spirit in empowering every believer for service. We aren't meant to be spectators in the pews; we are called to be active participants in the mission of the Gospel.
Serving helps us move from being consumers of church to being the Church. It’s where "me" becomes "us," and where "mine" becomes "His." Whether you're helping a child understand a Bible story for the first time or handing a warm meal to a neighbor in need, you are fulfilling the Great Commission in a very practical way.
Definition: Discipleship Discipleship is the lifelong process of following Jesus, learning His ways, and becoming more like Him. Serving is a key component of discipleship because it forces us to put our faith into action and love our neighbors as ourselves.
Serving the Next Generation
One of the most vital areas of service at FA Memphis is our FA Kids and OSC Youth ministries. We are committed to equipping the next generation of leaders in the 901.
FA Kids (Birth–5th Grade): Our children’s ministry is more than just childcare; it’s a place where kids learn about Jesus on their level. Volunteers help create a safe, fun, and Spirit-led environment. Whether you enjoy storytelling, operating tech, or simply being a welcoming presence for a nervous toddler, your impact here is eternal.
OSC Youth (6th–12th Grade): Our middle and high school students meet on Wednesday nights. Volunteers here serve as mentors and small group leaders, helping teens navigate the challenges of life with a biblical foundation. If you have a heart for the next generation, this is a powerful place to invest your time.

Serving Our City: The 901 Mission Field
We love Memphis. We believe that every neighborhood in our city is a mission field. Our outreach programs are designed to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of our neighbors.
Food Pantry (FFC): Our compassion ministry provides groceries to families in need. Volunteers pack bags, stock shelves, and most importantly, pray with the people who come through our doors. It’s a tangible way to show the love of Christ to our local community.
Sidewalk Sunday School: During the summer, our teams head to Alcy Park in South Memphis to share the Gospel with children through games, snacks, and Bible lessons. It’s a grassroots ministry that brings the church directly to the people.
Recreation & Sports: If you love sports, our recreation ministry offers opportunities to coach or referee. It’s a fantastic way to mentor young athletes in a Christ-honoring environment.

Serving the Body of Christ
Not every role involves a stage or a sports field. Some of the most important work happens behind the scenes, ensuring that everyone who walks through our doors feels seen and loved.
Hospitality & Greeters: You are the first face people see when they arrive at First Assembly Memphis. Your smile and warm welcome can change the trajectory of someone's entire Sunday.
Tech & Media: If you have a knack for cameras, sound, or computers, our tech team helps us reach not only those in the room but also our global community through Boundless Online Church.
Mentoring: Ministries like MUMs (Mentoring Mothers) allow experienced moms to pour into younger generations, providing much-needed encouragement and wisdom.
Definition: Sanctification Sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life, setting them apart for God’s purposes and transforming them into the image of Christ. Serving others is a primary way God refines our character and works sanctification into our daily lives.
