Christian Living: Looking For Divine Healing in Memphis? Here Are 7 Things You Should Know

6 min read

If you are reading this from a hospital waiting room in the 901, a quiet bedroom in Germantown, or even from a park bench in Midtown while feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders, I want you to know something right now: You are never forgotten, you are never alone, and you are deeply loved by God.

I’ve walked the streets of Memphis for a long time, and I know that our city is a place of incredible grit and grind, but it’s also a place where many people are carrying heavy burdens of sickness, emotional pain, and spiritual exhaustion. You might be asking the question: "I'm in Memphis and I'm hurting, physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Where do I find God's healing power, and what does it actually look like here in the 901?"

The answer is that divine healing isn't just a story from the New Testament; it is a present-day reality available through the power of the Holy Spirit. Whether you are looking for a physical miracle or a restoration of your soul, God is moving in our city. But when you start looking for divine healing, it helps to have a map. Here are seven things you should know as you seek the touch of the Master here in Memphis.

1. Healing is Provided for in the Atonement

The first thing I want you to understand is that healing isn't something God does "on a whim." It is part of the work Jesus finished on the Cross. In the Assemblies of God, we believe that divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers. When Jesus took those stripes on His back, He wasn't just paying for your entrance into heaven; He was making a way for your wholeness here on earth.

When you seek healing in Memphis, start by grounding yourself in the Word. You aren't asking God for a favor that He hasn't already made provision for. You are stepping into a promise that belongs to you as a child of God. This foundation changes your prayer from one of desperation to one of expectant faith.

2. The Holy Spirit is the Active Agent of Healing

Searching for divine healing in Memphis often leads people to look for "the right person" or "the right service." While God certainly uses people, the real power source is the Holy Spirit. We focus heavily on the Holy Spirit Baptism because we know that when the Spirit of God falls, things change. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in you, and that Spirit is the one who quickens your mortal body.

If you are seeking a move of God, I encourage you to seek the Giver, not just the gift. As you invite the Holy Spirit into your daily life, whether you're stuck in traffic on I-240 or sitting quietly at home, you are creating an atmosphere where healing can manifest. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter and our Helper, and He is active in Memphis today.

3. Healing Addresses the "Whole Person"

One of the most beautiful things about the healing community here in the 901 is the recognition that we aren't just bodies. We are spirit, soul, and body. Sometimes, a physical ailment is rooted in an emotional wound, things like rejection, fear, or shame. Organizations like Divine Life Memphis and other local ministries emphasize that true divine healing often starts from the inside out.

Don't be surprised if, while praying for a physical miracle, God begins to talk to you about forgiveness or letting go of past trauma. He is the Great Physician, and He knows exactly where the root of the pain lies. Total wellness means being aligned with God in every part of your being. This holistic approach is central to how we understand God's work in the lives of believers.

4. Community and Agreement are Key

You weren't meant to carry your sickness or your sorrow alone. Memphis has a vibrant community of believers who are ready to stand in agreement with you. Whether it’s through local prayer groups or our online community at Boundless, there is power in numbers. The Bible says that if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

In our Bible Study Club, we see people from all walks of life, right here in Memphis and across the globe, lifting each other up. Finding a community that believes in the power of the Holy Spirit and the truth of the Scripture is vital. It keeps your faith fueled when your own strength starts to wane. You need people who will speak life over you when you’re too tired to speak it over yourself.

5. Navigating the 901 Healing Landscape

Memphis is a city of churches, but when you’re looking for divine healing, you want to find a place that aligns with a solid biblical worldview. There are many great resources like The Memphis Healing Center or The Collective Healing Space that offer specialized focus on restoration and hope. Many of these leaders have professional training in counseling or theology, blending spiritual authority with practical care.

Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails. This means we stick to the 16 Fundamental Truths, ensuring that everything we teach and practice regarding healing stays centered on Jesus Christ and the authority of the Bible. When you look for a place to receive prayer, look for these guardrails. They protect you and ensure that the ministry you receive is grounded in truth, not just emotion.

6. Practical Steps: Digital Detox and Family Bonding

Since it’s Friday, I want to give you a "Friday Families" tip that actually aids in the healing process. Sometimes, our "dis-ease" comes from the constant noise and digital clutter of our modern lives. Healing often requires a quiet heart. I encourage you to try a low-cost digital detox this weekend. Put the phones away, turn off the news, and spend intentional time with your family or in quiet reflection.

Go for a walk in Shelby Farms or just sit in your backyard without the distraction of a screen. This "restoration of the soul" is a practical way to cooperate with God’s healing work. When we quiet the noise, we can hear the "still small voice" of the Holy Spirit more clearly. It’s hard to receive a divine touch when we are constantly distracted by the "grind" of the 901.

7. Protecting Your Spiritual Environment

Finally, know that what you consume matters. If you are seeking healing, you need to feed your spirit with things that build faith. When it comes to movies or media, I always recommend using family-safe clean versions via VidAngel or “Enjoy Movies Your Way.” It’s much easier to stay in a posture of faith when you aren't bombarding your mind with negativity or darkness.

I also strongly suggest online-safety and accountability tools for your household. Tools like Bark and Covenant Eyes are essential for keeping your digital environment healthy. A healthy spirit leads to a healthy soul, which creates the best environment for a healthy body. Safeguarding what comes into your home is a vital part of maintaining the peace that God provides.
