Christian News Insight: Ghana, A Global Hub for Peace and One Sacred Mandate

Hello, Boundless family! It is a beautiful Thursday, March 12, 2026, and we are looking across the ocean today toward the vibrant, sun-drenched coast of West Africa.

If you’ve been following the news, you know that Ghana has long been called the "Gateway to Africa." But lately, it’s becoming something even more significant on the global stage: a sanctuary for peace. In a world that often feels a bit noisy and chaotic, Ghana is standing tall as one of the most peaceful nations on the continent. And this October, from the 14th to the 16th, something truly historic is happening in the heart of Accra.

The 2026 World Congress is coming, and the theme is one that should make every Christian parent’s heart skip a beat: "Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation."

Why Accra? Why Now?

Ghana isn’t just a beautiful place with amazing food (jollof rice, anyone?); it’s a strategic hub for peacemaking. Under the leadership of folks like Rev. Stephen Wengam (the General Superintendent of AG Ghana and our local Congress host), the church in Ghana is showing the world what it looks like to be "salt and light."

The World Assemblies of God Fellowship (WAGF) Chairman, Rev. Dominic Yeo, has a vision that is as bold as it is beautiful. It’s called MM33. No, it’s not a secret code! It stands for the goal of reaching 1 million churches globally by the year 2033, the 2,000th anniversary of the Resurrection and the Day of Pentecost.

The 2026 Congress in Accra is a massive milestone on that road. It’s a global platform where leaders from every corner of the earth will gather to pray, unite, and refocus on the "One Mandate", sharing the hope of Jesus with everyone, everywhere.

For us as parents, this is a wonderful teaching moment. It’s a chance to show our kids that the Church is much bigger than our local neighborhood. We are part of a global family that is actively working to bring peace and hope to the world.

Family Bible Study: The "Go" Command

Topic: Commissioned for Kindness

Read Together: Matthew 28:18-20

Parent Script: "Imagine if you found the best, most delicious chocolate chip cookie in the whole world. Would you keep it all for yourself? Or would you want to tell your friends so they could have a bite too?

Jesus gave us something much better than a cookie, He gave us His love and peace. In the Bible, He gave us a 'Mandate.' That’s just a big word for a very important job. He told us to go to every nation and tell them about Him. That’s why people are meeting in Ghana this October! They want to make sure every person in every country knows they are loved by God."

Big Questions to Talk About:

  1. If you could travel to any country to tell someone about Jesus, where would you go?

  2. How can we be "peacemakers" right here in our own house today?

  3. What does it feel like to know that kids all over the world, even in Ghana, are praying to the same God we are?

Prayer Together: "Lord, thank You for our global family. We pray for the leaders meeting in Ghana this year. Help them to be brave and full of love. Show us how to share Your peace with our friends today. Amen."

Kids Story: Kojo’s Big Welcome

Kojo lived in the busy, colorful city of Accra. He loved the sound of the honking yellow-and-blue taxis and the smell of roasted plantains in the market. But lately, there was a new kind of excitement in the air.

His father, a pastor at a local church, was busy helping get things ready for a "Big Gathering."

"Papa," Kojo asked, swinging on the gate of their garden. "Why are so many people coming from so far away?"

Papa knelt down and smiled. "They are coming because of the One Mandate, Kojo. Remember how we talk about Jesus’ love being like a light? Sometimes, even when you have a light, you need to get together with other light-bearers to make the world extra bright. Ghana is the place where we are all going to hold our lanterns together."

Kojo imagined thousands of people holding lanterns. "Will they speak different languages?"

"Oh yes," Papa laughed. "They will speak Spanish, Korean, French, and English. But when we pray, God hears one language: the language of the heart."

That night, Kojo looked out at the Atlantic Ocean. He felt proud that his home was a place of peace. He realized that being "commissioned" didn't mean he had to be a grown-up or a famous leader. It just meant saying "Yes" to God right where he was.

"I’m a peacemaker too," Kojo whispered to the stars. And as he fell asleep, he dreamed of a million churches, all glowing like little stars across the map of the world.

Serial Story: The Lantern Bearers

Chapter 4: The Golden Coast

The ship, The Morning Star, creaked as it pulled into the harbor of Accra. Young Leo stood at the railing, his hand clutching the small wooden lantern his grandfather had given him. He had traveled miles across the sea, following the whispers of a Great Mandate.

"Is this it?" Leo asked the Captain.

"This is the Place of Peace," the Captain replied, pointing to the bustling shoreline. "They say that here, the message of the King is being written on the hearts of the people."

Leo stepped onto the red earth of Ghana. He felt a strange warmth, not just from the sun, but from the smiles of the people. Everywhere he looked, people were helping one another. They weren't fighting over who was the greatest; they were talking about how to serve the smallest.

As he walked toward the Great Hall where the Congress was to be held, he saw a girl about his age painting a banner. It said: One Mandate, Every Nation.

"Do you need help?" Leo asked.

The girl looked up, her eyes sparking with joy. "I’ve been waiting for someone to hold the other end. I’m Amara."

Leo took the edge of the banner. For the first time since his journey began, he realized he wasn't alone. The Mandate wasn't a weight to carry; it was a song to sing together.

Tips for Raising Global-Minded Peacemakers

Raising kids in a digital age can sometimes make the world feel small and scary. Here are a few ways to help them see the big, beautiful picture of God’s Kingdom:

  1. Pray with a Map: Hang a map in your dining room. Each week, pick a different country and pray for the families there. Mention the 2026 World Congress in Ghana specifically this year!

  2. Celebrate Diversity: Read books about different cultures. Try new foods. Remind your kids that God is the ultimate Artist, and He loves variety!

  3. Focus on Peace: When conflicts happen at home (and we know they do!), use the language of a "peacemaker." Ask: "How can we bring the peace of Ghana into our living room right now?"

  4. Connect to Mission: Check out World Ministries Mission Leaders to see how people are serving around the globe.

Hands-On Faith: The Peace Passport

This is a simple, no-cost craft to help your kids feel connected to the "One Mandate."

Items Needed:

  • A few sheets of paper (white or colored)

  • Stapler or string

  • Crayons or markers

  • Old magazines or stickers (optional)

The Activity:

  1. Fold and Staple: Fold three sheets of paper in half and staple the spine to create a small booklet.

  2. The Cover: Have your child write "[Name]’s Peace Passport" on the front. Decorate it with hearts, crosses, and world shapes.

  3. The "Visas": On each page, write the name of a country. Start with Ghana!

  4. The Mission: Every time you learn a "God-fact" about that country (like a prayer need or a praise report), draw a "stamp" on that page.

  5. Spiritual Connection: Tell your child, "Just like a passport lets you travel to different lands, your prayers can travel anywhere in the world. You are a global ambassador for Jesus!"
