The Sunday morning experience at First Assembly Memphis is clear and welcoming, guiding guests from parking to worship with as little confusion as possible. The goal is simple: remove distractions so hearts can focus on Jesus, Spirit-led worship, and a healthy next step in community in Memphis and the 901.
Bible Verses for a Smooth, God-Focused Sunday
Passage | What it reminds us |
Psalm 122:1 | We come to God’s house with joy—not anxiety. |
1 Corinthians 14:40 | God cares about order and clarity, because people matter. |
Why We Care About “Friction” (Sin + Solution)
The problem (Sin): In a broken world, anxiety, distraction, and pride can quietly take over—making it easy to avoid church, assume the worst, or believe “I don’t belong.” This is not shame; it is an honest look at what can pull hearts away from Jesus.
The solution (Jesus): Jesus invites the weary to come to Him (Matthew 11:28). A church cannot save anyone—only Christ saves—but a Spirit-filled, Bible-centered environment can reduce confusion and create space for people to hear God’s Word, respond to the Gospel, and take a next step in discipleship.
What “friction” means here: Friction is anything that distracts from meeting with God—confusion, uncertainty, feeling ignored, not knowing where kids go, or not knowing what’s next. Removing friction is a practical way to love people well.
Prayer for Your Sunday
Jesus, give a peaceful mind and a receptive heart as worship begins. Help distractions fall away and let Your Word be received with faith. Let every interaction be kind and encouraging, and let Your presence be real and near. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Arrival & Parking
We maintain two parking lots on each side of the property. Guest parking spots are located toward the front of each lot and marked with clear signage. These designated spaces ensure convenient access to main entrances.
Regular attendees park farther back to keep front-row spaces available for visitors. Arrive 10-15 minutes before service start time to allow for parking and navigation to the sanctuary.

Service Time Options
First Assembly Memphis operates on the following weekly schedule:
Sunday Mornings
9:30 AM: Classes
10:30 AM: Worship Service (available onsite or online)
Wednesday Evenings
5:00-6:15 PM: Family Dinner ($7 per meal)
6:30 PM: Ministry Services
Monthly Sunday Evening
5:30 PM: Prayer, Praise & Communion
First-time visitors typically attend the 10:30 AM Sunday worship service. This service provides the complete First Assembly experience without requiring prior commitment to Classes.
A quick “behind the scenes” note: Our team also meets on Monday at 9:00 AM for a pastoral meeting to pray, plan, and make sure Sunday is clear, covered, and cared for.
Check-In Process for Children
Parents with children ages 6 weeks through 5th grade use our secure check-in system. Locate the Children's Ministry desk in the main lobby before entering the sanctuary.
The check-in process includes:
Registration form completion (first visit only)
Printed name tags for child & matching parent pickup tag
Classroom assignment based on age/grade
Emergency contact verification
Children's programs operate during all Sunday morning & Wednesday evening services. Volunteers maintain child-to-staff ratios that meet state safety guidelines.

Dress Code Expectations
We enforce no specific dress requirements. Attendees dress in styles ranging from business formal to casual jeans & t-shirts. Your clothing choice will not affect how we receive you.
Most Memphis area churches have transitioned to relaxed dress standards. First Assembly reflects this shift while respecting individuals who prefer traditional Sunday attire.
Navigating the Main Lobby
The main lobby serves as the central hub before & after services. Key locations include:
Welcome Table: Information desk staffed by hospitality hosts
Coffee Station: Complimentary beverages available before service
Restroom Facilities: Marked with standard signage on both sides of lobby
Children's Ministry Check-In: Located near children's wing entrance
Resource Center: Books, media & church information materials
Hospitality hosts wear name tags & position themselves throughout the lobby to answer directional questions. We do not require visitors to sign in or wear identification.
What Happens During the Service
Duration: Services last approximately 1 hour & 15 minutes from start to dismissal.
Music & Worship: We incorporate both traditional hymns & contemporary worship songs. The worship team leads congregation singing for 20-25 minutes at service beginning. Participation in singing is optional: some attendees stand & sing while others sit & listen.
Teaching Format: Biblical teaching occupies the second half of the service. Messages include illustrations, media elements & practical application points. Teaching style emphasizes current relevance rather than academic theological discourse.
Order of Service:
Welcome & announcements (5 minutes)
Worship music (20-25 minutes)
Offering time (5 minutes)
Message/Teaching (30-35 minutes)
Closing prayer & dismissal (5 minutes)

Financial Expectations
We maintain no financial obligation for guests. Offering time occurs mid-service, but visitors should not feel pressured to contribute. Regular attendees give to support church operations & community programs.
Offering plates pass through rows, or digital giving options are available via church website. Simply pass the plate to the next person if you choose not to give.
After Service Concludes
Post-service activities include:
Welcome Table Visit: Stop by the Welcome Table to receive a complimentary gift & meet pastoral staff. This is the primary connection point for first-time visitors. Hospitality hosts collect contact information only if you choose to provide it.
Lobby Conversations: Many attendees remain in the lobby 15-20 minutes after dismissal for informal conversations. Coffee remains available during this time.
Child Pickup: Return to Children's Ministry desk with your parent pickup tag to retrieve children. Staff will not release children without the matching tag.
The lobby clears within 30 minutes of service dismissal. No formal reception or meal follows the Sunday morning service (unlike Wednesday evening schedule).
Online Attendance Option
We stream the 10:30 AM Sunday service live for those unable to attend in person. Access the stream through www.famemphis.net. Online viewers watch the same service as onsite attendees without edited content.
Online attendance provides a preview option for individuals who want to observe before visiting in person. The streaming option remains available for subsequent weeks if you need to attend remotely.
