Community & Growth : Mentoring New Believers in a Digital Space

A Message from FA Memphis

Starting a journey with Jesus is one of the most exciting things you’ll ever do. It’s like a fresh start, a clean slate, and a whole new lens to see the world through. But let’s be real, it can also feel a little bit like being the new kid at a school where everyone else already knows the secret handshake.

You’ve got questions. You’ve got a brand-new Bible that’s over a thousand pages long. And sometimes, you just need someone to walk beside you and say, "Hey, I’ve been there. Let’s figure this out together."

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that faith was never meant to be a solo sport. Whether you’re joining us from a night shift in Memphis, a living room in London, or a quiet space in an area where being a Christian isn't easy, you don’t have to grow alone.

Digital mentoring is the bridge that connects your "I’m new here" to "I’m growing here."

Why Mentoring Matters (The Biblical Why)

In the Assemblies of God tradition, we hold tightly to the 16 Fundamental Truths. One of those core beliefs is the Great Commission, the instruction Jesus gave us to go and make disciples. Making a disciple isn't just about getting someone to say a prayer; it’s about the long-term process of growth, character building, and learning to live a Spirit-empowered life.

Mentoring is just a modern word for what the Bible calls "discipleship."

Think about the relationship between Paul and Timothy in the New Testament. Paul didn't just send Timothy a few scrolls and wish him luck. He invested in him. He answered his questions, coached him through tough situations, and encouraged him when he felt like giving up.

In a digital space, we have the incredible opportunity to do the same thing across borders and time zones. Technology isn't the focus, it’s the tool that allows the Holy Spirit to connect two hearts for the sake of growth.

The Digital Difference: Growth Without Borders

There’s a common misconception that "online" means "impersonal." We beg to differ.

In some ways, digital mentoring can be even more intentional than traditional face-to-face meetings. When you’re meeting in a digital space, you’re there for a reason. You’re carving out time in your busy schedule to connect, pray, and dive into the Word.

Boundless Online Church is designed to facilitate this exact kind of growth. We know that shift workers, caregivers, and those with physical limitations can’t always make it to a physical building on a Tuesday night. But they can hop into a group or a message thread.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. That mission doesn't stop after the first click. It’s a continuous process of learning what it means to belong to the family of God. If you’re wondering what that looks like on a practical level, you might want to check out our post on Assemblies of God Membership 101.

The GROW Method: A Simple Framework for Mentoring

If you’re a new believer looking for a mentor, or an experienced believer looking to help someone else, you don’t need a PhD in theology. You just need a heart for people and a simple plan. At Boundless, we love using the GROW method for our digital check-ins:

1. G – God’s Word: What have you been reading this week? Did a specific verse jump out at you? Even if it was just one sentence that made you stop and think, that’s a win.

2. R – Reflection: What was confusing? It’s okay to admit that some parts of the Bible are hard to understand. A mentor is there to help you navigate those "Wait, what?" moments.

3. O – Obedience: How does Jesus’ teaching apply to your life right now? Maybe it’s about how you talk to your coworkers, or how you handle stress. Faith is practical.

4. W – What’s Next?: What is one small step you can take this week to follow Jesus more closely?

This framework keeps the conversation focused and ensures that every digital "hangout" has a purpose. It moves us from just talking about God to actually walking with Him.

Finding Your Community at Boundless

Mentoring doesn't always have to be one-on-one. Sometimes, the best mentoring happens in a small, supportive group environment. We’ve created several digital "rooms" where you can find mentors and peers who are on the same path.

If you’re brand new and don’t know where to start, our I'm New Q&A Welcome Center is the perfect first stop. It’s a safe space to ask the "basic" questions without any judgment.

For those who want to dive deeper into the scriptures with others, the Bible Study Club offers a way to see how different people process the Word. You’ll hear from people who have been walking with Christ for thirty years and people who started thirty days ago. That mix is where the real growth happens.

And for the men looking for a focused environment, we have a specific Bible Study for Men that focuses on the unique challenges and responsibilities men face today.

Safety and Technology

While we love using tech to spread the Gospel, we also believe in being smart about it. Tech safety is a big deal for us, especially for families. When you’re engaging in digital mentoring, always use platforms that are secure and maintain healthy boundaries.

We encourage parents to be involved in their children's digital faith journey. If you’re a parent looking for resources on how to navigate this, we are constantly updating our blog with tips on keeping your family’s digital life healthy and Christ-centered.

Multiplication: From Mentee to Mentor

The goal of mentoring isn't just to keep you "fed" spiritually. The goal is to help you grow to the point where you can start feeding others.

In the Assemblies of God, we believe in the "priesthood of all believers." That means you have a role to play in the Kingdom. Once you start getting a handle on the basics of your faith, don’t be surprised if the Holy Spirit starts nudging you to help someone else who is just one step behind you.

Maybe you’ve learned how to use a Bible app effectively, or you’ve found a way to pray while you’re commuting. Sharing those small tips is a form of mentoring. It’s how the community expands. It’s how we reach the ends of the earth from our computer screens.

If you feel called to serve in a more formal capacity, we are always looking for people to join our Volunteers & Leaders group. There, you can receive training on how to facilitate discussions and support others in their spiritual walk.

Taking the First Step

If you’re reading this and feeling like you’re drifting in your faith, or if you’ve just made a decision for Christ and don’t know what to do next, please hear this: You don’t have to do this alone.

The digital space isn't a barrier; it's an open door. Whether you need a formal mentor, a prayer partner, or just a group of people who won't roll their eyes at your questions, you’ve found a home here.

We invite you to explore our Online Programs to see where you might fit in. There is a spot at the table for you, regardless of your background or where you are in the world.

Growth takes time. It takes patience. And most importantly, it takes community. Let’s start growing together today.

Lord, thank You for bringing me into this family. Thank You that I don’t have to figure everything out on my own. I ask that You would lead me to the right mentors and the right community where I can grow in my faith. Open my heart to learn and, in time, give me the strength to help others. Help me to live a life that reflects Your love and Your truth every day. Amen.
