Daily Parent Devotional: A Legacy of Prayer (March 10)

Parenting often feels like a series of "doing."
Doing the laundry. Doing the dishes. Doing the school drop-off. Doing the bedtime routine.
But as we look at the calendar today: March 10: we are invited to shift our focus from what we are doing for our children to what we are leaving for them. We are talking about building a legacy of prayer.
A legacy isn't just money in a bank account or a house passed down through generations. The most valuable thing you can give your children is a spiritual foundation that cannot be shaken by the world.
Today, let's explore how we can weave prayer into the very fabric of our family life, ensuring that our children grow up knowing that they have direct access to the Creator of the universe.
The Posture of Prayer
When we hear the phrase "pray without ceasing" from 1 Thessalonians 5:17, it can feel a bit overwhelming. As a parent, you might think, "I barely have time to drink my coffee while it’s hot. How am I supposed to pray all day?"
The beauty of this scripture isn't about spending twenty-four hours a day on your knees with your eyes closed. That would be impossible (and probably dangerous if you're driving the carpool!).
Instead, it’s about a posture of the heart.
It’s about maintaining a constant "God-consciousness" throughout your day. It’s the short, whispered breath of "Lord, give me patience" when the toddler spills the juice. It’s the "Thank you, Father" when you see a beautiful sunset during your commute. It’s the "God, protect them" as you watch your teenager walk into school.

When we live in this state of constant communication with God, our children see it. They notice that God isn't just someone we talk about for an hour on Sunday mornings. He is a real, present part of our everyday lives.
Caught, Not Just Taught
There is an old saying in ministry: "Faith is caught, not just taught."
You can teach your children the mechanics of prayer. You can teach them "Now I lay me down to sleep." But they will truly learn the power of prayer by watching you rely on it.
Do your children see you pray when you are stressed? Do they hear you thank God for His provision when a bill is paid? When a family crisis hits, is prayer the first response they see from you, or the last resort?
Building a legacy of prayer means modeling that God is our first point of contact, not our last. When we bring our anxieties to Him, we are showing our children that God is trustworthy. We are teaching them that they don't have to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders because they have a Father in heaven who cares for them.
If you’re looking for ways to get more intentional about this, you might find our community groups helpful for connecting with other parents walking the same path.
Intercessory Prayer: Standing in the Gap
On this March 10, we also reflect on the power of intercession. Just as Abraham prayed earnestly for others, we have the privilege and responsibility to stand in the gap for our children.
Our children are growing up in a world that is increasingly complex. From digital pressures to social anxieties, they face challenges that many of us didn't encounter until we were much older.
As parents, our greatest weapon is intercessory prayer.
We pray for their protection: not just physical, but spiritual and emotional. We pray that the Holy Spirit would guide their hearts and that they would develop a hunger for the Word of God.
One of the best ways to keep track of these needs is through a prayer list. At Boundless Online Church, we have a Prayer Wall where you can post your requests and have others join you in intercession. There is something incredibly powerful about knowing you aren't praying alone.

Prayer in the Digital Age
We can’t talk about parenting in 2026 without talking about the digital world. Our children are "digital natives," and while technology offers many benefits, it also presents new risks.
Part of your legacy of prayer involves praying for wisdom in how to navigate this landscape. We need to pray for discernment for our children as they consume content online.
We also need to lead by example. Are we using our devices to build up or to tear down? Are we using technology to grow our faith, or is it a source of distraction?

A Legacy for Every Generation
The hero image for today’s devotional shows a multi-generational family. This is a beautiful reminder that the prayers you pray today can echo for generations to come.
Perhaps you didn't grow up in a home where prayer was prioritized. If that’s the case, you have the incredible opportunity to start a new legacy. You can be the one who changes the trajectory of your family tree.
On the other hand, if you were blessed with praying parents or grandparents, you are the fruit of their intercession. You are walking in the blessings that were prayed over you before you were even born.
Regardless of your background, today is the day to lean in.

Meeting Jesus in Prayer
At the heart of a legacy of prayer is a relationship with Jesus Christ. You cannot pass on a passion for someone you do not know.
The Assemblies of God doctrine reminds us that salvation is found through the blood of Jesus, and it is the starting point for everything else. If you have never made the decision to follow Jesus, or if you’ve wandered away and want to come home, prayer is your doorway.
Jesus is waiting with open arms. He wants to walk with you through the highs and lows of parenting. He wants to be the foundation of your family.

Practical Steps for Today
How can you put this into practice on this specific Tuesday, March 10? Here are three simple ideas:
The "Driving" Prayer: On the way to school or work, turn off the radio. Spend five minutes out loud (or in your head) just thanking God for three specific things about each of your children.
The "Digital" Prayer: Set a reminder on your phone for midday. When it goes off, take 60 seconds to pray for a specific challenge one of your children is facing right now.
The "Bedtime" Blessing: Instead of just "reading" a prayer tonight, ask your child, "What is one thing you want to talk to God about today?" Then, pray specifically for that thing.
Remember, consistency is more important than intensity. You don't need to be a theological giant; you just need to be a present parent who talks to a present God.
Boundless Online Church is a ministry of FA Memphis. We are here to support you as you lead your family in faith. Whether you are a shift worker looking for a community during the "off-hours" or a busy parent trying to find a moment of peace, you are welcome here.
If you are looking for a place to worship this coming weekend, we invite you to join our Sunday Live Worship. It’s a great way to recharge and stay focused on the mission God has for your family.
Building a legacy takes time. It’s built one prayer, one conversation, and one day at a time. Start today. Your children: and your children’s children: will thank you for it.
