Think about a jeweler working with gold. Raw gold isn't pure; it's filled with impurities called "dross." To get the pure, valuable metal, the jeweler has to turn up the heat. As the temperature rises, the impurities rise to the top and can be skimmed away. The jeweler doesn't walk away; he sits and watches. He knows exactly how much heat is needed to purify the gold without destroying it.

God does the same with us. He isn't trying to burn you up; He’s trying to burn away the things that keep you from being your best self. He wants to remove the pride, the bitterness, and the habits that keep you stuck. When you go through a season of "heat," it’s often because God is making room for something better.

No Bowing Down: Standing Strong Today

We can’t talk about the fire without talking about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. You might remember their story from Daniel chapter 3. They were living in a culture that demanded they bow down to an idol. The king made it clear: "Bow down, or you go into the fiery furnace."
