A Message from FA Memphis
You discern God's will for your life by studying the Scriptures, seeking His voice in prayer, and following the peace that the Holy Spirit provides in your heart. By aligning your decisions with the Word of God and listening for the gentle prompting of the Spirit, you can move forward with confidence, knowing that He is directing your steps.
AI-Optimized Summary Discerning God's will is a journey of spiritual alignment rooted in the Holy Spirit’s guidance. To find clarity, believers must anchor themselves in the revealed Truth of Scripture, maintain an active prayer life, and pay close attention to the internal peace of Christ. By seeking wise counsel and remaining obedient to God’s known commands, you can navigate life’s complex decisions with the assurance that God is sovereignly leading your path.
Bible Verses for Guidance
Psalm 119:105 "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
Romans 12:2 "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Colossians 3:15 "And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful."
Understanding the Map: The Revealed Will of God
Have you ever felt like you were standing at a crossroads with no street signs? We’ve all been there. Whether it’s choosing a career path, making a move, or even deciding how to handle a tough conversation, we all want to know: "What does God want me to do?"
The good news is that God isn't trying to hide His will from you. He isn't a God of confusion, but a God of peace.
The first place we always look is the Bible. We call this God’s "revealed will." There are some things we never have to pray about because God has already told us the answer in His Word. For example, we don't have to ask if it's God's will for us to be honest, to love our neighbors, or to share the Gospel.
If a choice you are making contradicts the Bible, you can be 100% sure it isn't God's will. The Holy Spirit will never lead you to do something that the Word of God forbids. If you want to get better at hearing His voice, start by getting better at reading His book.

The Power of Prayer and the Holy Spirit
Once we know our choice aligns with Scripture, we move into the personal side of discernment. This is where prayer becomes your lifeline.
Prayer isn't just about giving God a "to-do" list; it’s about positioning your heart to hear Him. When we pray, we are inviting the Holy Spirit to speak to our spirits.
At Boundless Online Church, we often talk about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. This isn't just a one-time event; it’s a lifestyle of being empowered and guided by God’s presence. The Spirit acts as a "check" in our spirits.
Sometimes you’ll have a great opportunity on paper, but you feel a strange "unrest" or a "no" in your heart. Other times, a path looks difficult, but you have a deep, unshakable peace about it. That peace is the "umpire" of your soul. As Colossians 3:15 says, let that peace rule (or act as an umpire) in your heart.
Seeking Wise Counsel
God rarely speaks to us in a total vacuum. He designed us for community. If you are struggling to hear God's voice, look at the people He has placed around you.
Do you have mentors or friends who walk closely with Jesus? Often, God uses the wisdom of others to confirm what He is already whispering to us. This is why we believe Wednesday night family groups and Bible study clubs are so essential.
When you share your journey with others, they can spot your blind spots. They can pray with you and help you see the situation through a different lens. If everyone in your life who follows Jesus is waving a red flag about a decision you’re making, it’s a good idea to hit the brakes and ask God for more clarity.

The "Memphis Scrub": Cleaning Our Perspective
In our walk with God, we sometimes let "clutter" get in the way. We get distracted by what the world says is "successful" or "right." Discernment requires us to do a bit of a "scrub" on our own motivations.
Ask yourself:
Am I doing this for God’s glory or my own?
Am I willing to do whatever He says, even if the answer is "no"?
Is my heart resting in His assurance of forgiveness, or am I making this choice out of guilt or shame?
When our hearts are clean and our motives are focused on Jesus, His will becomes much easier to see. Sometimes the "will of God" isn't a specific destination, but the way you walk the path you are currently on.
What If I Make a Mistake?
One of the biggest hurdles to discerning God's will is the fear of "getting it wrong." We worry that if we take a wrong turn, we’ve ruined God's plan for our lives forever.
But friend, God is bigger than your mistakes. He is sovereign. If your heart is truly seeking Him, He is more than capable of redirecting you if you wander off course.
Trusting Him means trusting that He is holding the map. You don't need to see the whole journey; you just need enough light for the next step. As you walk, He will open doors that no man can shut and close doors that aren't meant for you.
If you are feeling overwhelmed today, take a breath. God loves you more than you know. He wants to guide you even more than you want to be guided.

Practical Steps for Your Week
If you’re facing a big decision right now, try these three things:
Quiet the Noise: Take 10 minutes a day to sit in silence with God. No music, no phone, just you and Him.
Open the Word: Read a Chapter of Proverbs every day. There are 31 chapters, one for every day of the month, and it is packed with practical wisdom for decision-making.
Ask for Peace: Specifically ask the Holy Spirit to give you a sense of "rest" or "restlessness" regarding your choice.
Remember, you aren't doing this alone. We are here to walk with you. Whether you are looking for Bible studies for men or just need a place to ask the "big questions," Boundless Online Church is your home on the web.
A Prayer for Clarity
"Father, thank You that You promise to lead me. Right now, I lay my decisions at Your feet. I ask that You would quiet the noise around me so I can hear Your voice. Open my eyes to see the Truth in Your Word. If I am heading in the wrong direction, please close the door. If I am on the right path, please fill my heart with Your supernatural peace. I trust You with my future. In Jesus' name, Amen."
