FA Memphis Connection: How Do I Find My People in a Small Group at FA Memphis?

Are you tired of being just a face in a crowd on Sunday mornings? Do you find yourself craving a deeper connection that goes beyond a quick handshake in the lobby?

Finding your people at FA Memphis starts by moving from the "rows" of the sanctuary to the "circles" of a Small Group. Whether you are in Memphis, Cordova, or joining us through Boundless Online Church, our adult 20+ groups provide a Spirit-filled space to grow in faith, share life, and build authentic, lasting community.

Why Small Groups Matter for Adults 20+

In the hustle of life in the 901, from navigating career changes in Bartlett to raising families in Arlington, it is easy to feel spiritually isolated. The Bible tells us that the early church didn't just meet in the temple courts; they met in homes, broke bread together, and shared everything they had (Acts 2:42-47).

For adults in the 20+ stage, this is a critical season. Whether you are finishing college, starting your first "real" job, or entering the busy years of young parenthood, you need a tribe. You need people who will pray for you when life gets heavy and celebrate with you when God moves. At First Assembly Memphis, we believe that life change happens in circles, not just rows.

Defining the Heart of Our Groups

Before we dive into how to find your specific group, it’s important to understand the biblical foundations of why we gather. At FA Memphis, we use these terms often, and they are the DNA of our small group ministry:

Discipleship: The lifelong process of following Jesus, being changed by Jesus, and being committed to the mission of Jesus. It is not just about gaining head knowledge; it’s about heart transformation. Fellowship: Derived from the Greek word koinonia, it means more than just hanging out. It is a spiritual partnership and shared life centered on the Gospel. Spirit-Empowered Living: Our commitment as an Assemblies of God church to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to guide our conversations, our prayers, and our service to one another.

What to Expect When You Join a Group

If you’ve never been to a Small Group at First Assembly Memphis, you might feel a little nervous. That’s completely normal! Here is what a typical gathering looks like:

  1. A Warm Welcome: Most of our groups meet in homes throughout the 901 area, places like Cordova, Collierville, and Millington. You’ll be greeted with a smile (and usually some snacks!).

  2. Guided Conversation: We don’t just talk about the weather. We look at the Sunday sermon or a specific Bible study and ask, "How does this actually change how I live on Monday morning?"

  3. Authentic Prayer: This is where the magic happens. We take time to share real needs. No "churchy" masks required. We pray for healing, for jobs, for families, and for our city.

  4. Shared Mission: Many of our groups take their fellowship outside the living room. Whether it's serving at a local food pantry or helping a neighbor, we believe community should move us toward mission.

A Place for Every Stage of Life

We know that "Adults 20+" is a broad category. That’s why we offer a variety of groups tailored to where you are right now:

  • Young Adult Groups: Perfect for those in their 20s and 30s navigating the "what's next" of life.

  • Neighborhood Groups: Find people right in your backyard in Bartlett, Arlington, or East Memphis.

  • Family-Focused Groups: Groups that understand the beautiful chaos of raising kids and offer childcare or kid-friendly environments.

  • Digital Discipleship: For those who are homebound, traveling, or part of our global Boundless Online Church family, we offer vibrant online groups that feel just as close as a living room.

  1. Visit the Connect Page: Head over to our Life Groups page to see a current list of meeting times and locations.

  2. Use the Signup Form: We’ve made it easy to filter groups by ZIP code and childcare needs. Fill out the Small Groups Form and a leader will reach out to you within 48 hours.

  3. Try Two or Three: Sometimes the first group you visit is a perfect fit. Other times, it takes a couple of tries to find the right "vibe." Don't give up, your people are out there!

  4. Check Out Boundless: If your schedule is unpredictable or you live outside the 901, join our digital community at www.boundlessonlinechurch.org. Distance is no barrier to discipleship.

The Life-Betterment Promise

Joining a small group isn't just one more thing to add to your calendar. It is a strategic move for your spiritual and mental health. Research and Scripture both show that people in close-knit communities experience lower rates of anxiety, higher levels of purpose, and a more resilient faith.

By surrounding yourself with believers who align with the Fundamental Truths of our faith, you aren't just making friends, you are building a fortress for your soul.
