Final Justice: Why Right and Wrong Matter

We have all felt it.

That sharp, cold sting in the pit of your stomach.

It happens when you see someone get away with a lie.

It happens when a bully wins.

It happens when the "bad guy" finishes first while the honest person loses everything.

In those moments, something inside you screams, "That’s not right!"

Where does that feeling come from?

Is it just a survival instinct?

Or is it a sign that we were made for a world where things actually make sense?

We live in a world that often feels broken and unfair.

We see headlines that make us shake our heads.

We experience personal betrayals that keep us up at night.

If this life is all there is, then "right" and "wrong" are just words we made up.

But deep down, we know they aren’t just words.

We know they matter.

The Search for a Moral Compass

Humans have been debating morality for thousands of years.

Some people say right and wrong are just social tools.

They argue we invented "good" so we could live together without hurting each other.

Philosophers call this a practical way to resolve conflict.

It makes sense on a surface level.

If I don't steal from you, you won't steal from me.

We both stay safe.

But that explanation feels a bit empty when real tragedy strikes.

When a person is truly wronged, they aren't looking for a "social tool."

They are looking for justice.

They want the truth to be told.

They want the scales to be balanced.

If there is no objective standard of right and wrong, then justice is just an opinion.

If justice is just an opinion, then the person with the most power gets to decide what is "right."

That is a scary way to live.

Why We Hunger for Fairness

Think about a child on a playground.

You don't have to teach a child to say, "That’s not fair!"

They know it instinctively.

When one kid takes a toy that isn't theirs, the victim knows a boundary has been crossed.

This hunger for fairness follows us into adulthood.

We want our bosses to be fair.

We want our government to be fair.

We want our friends to be loyal.

This universal desire suggests that there is a "Law" written on our hearts.

It suggests that we didn't just stumble into these ideas.

It suggests we were designed by Someone who is perfectly just.

The Reality of Final Judgment

In the Assemblies of God, we believe in something called the Final Judgment.

It is one of our fundamental truths.

It says that one day, every person who has ever lived will stand before God.

This isn't meant to be a scary story to keep people in line.

It is actually a message of profound hope.

It means that no evil deed will stay hidden forever.

It means that every tear shed in secret has been seen.

It means that, eventually, everything will be made right.

The Bible describes a "Great White Throne."

This is the moment of final accountability.

It is the moment when the truth is finally, fully revealed.

For those who have suffered under oppression, this is a promise.

For those who have been silenced, this is a voice.

It is the ultimate assurance that evil does not get the final word.

Justice vs. Mercy

When we talk about judgment, people often get nervous.

We start thinking about our own mistakes.

We remember the times we weren't "good."

We remember the times we were the ones who were unfair.

This is where the story gets even better.

God is a perfectly just Judge.

He cannot simply "ignore" wrong things, because then He wouldn't be just.

Imagine a human judge who let a criminal walk free just because they were "having a bad day."

We would call that judge corrupt.

So, God must deal with wrong.

But God is also perfectly loving.

He provided a way for us to face the truth without being destroyed by it.

That way is Jesus.

Jesus took the weight of our "wrongs" upon Himself.

He met the requirements of justice so that He could offer us mercy.

Living in the Light of Truth

Knowing that a Final Judgment exists changes how we live today.

It gives us a reason to do the right thing, even when no one is watching.

It gives us the strength to forgive people who haven't asked for it.

Why? Because we know we don't have to be the judge.

We can let go of the "need" for revenge.

We can trust that God will handle the final tally far better than we ever could.

It also gives us a sense of urgency.

If right and wrong matter to God, they should matter to us.

How we treat the people around us matters.

How we use our time matters.

The words we speak matter.

Life isn't just a series of random events.

It is a journey with a destination.
