Finding Rock-Solid Peace on Shaky Ground

How can Christian families find lasting peace when world news feels so unstable? The answer is simpler than we often think, though it requires a brave heart: we find peace by anchoring our homes in the unshakeable truth of Christ rather than the shifting headlines of the world.

On this Friday morning, April 10, 2026, many of us woke up to headlines about JD Vance arriving in Islamabad for critical peace talks regarding the US-Iran situation. The words "fragile," "shaky," and "uncertain" are peppered through every news report. For a parent, those words can feel like a cold wind blowing through the living room. We want our children to feel safe, yet the world seems to be built on sand. But here is the good news: the kind of news that doesn't just inform us but transforms us: while global peace is often a delicate negotiation, the peace of God is a finished work of grace.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe in being peacemakers. We pray for our leaders and for the safety of families in Islamabad and Tehran just as we pray for our neighbors in Memphis. But we also know that our ultimate security doesn't come from a signed treaty; it comes from the Savior who has already conquered the storm. Today, let's look at how we can build a "bedrock" family faith that stands firm even when the ground beneath the world seems to tremble.

News Insight: The Difference Between Quiet and Peace

When we hear about peace talks in the news, we are usually talking about the absence of conflict: a quiet moment where no one is fighting. That is a wonderful thing, and we should seek it! But the peace Jesus offers is something different. It isn't just the absence of a storm; it is the presence of a Person.

In the research of our hearts, we find that "bedrock" is the hard, solid rock beneath the surface soil. Most of the world builds on the surface: on opinions, on the economy, or on the latest political movement. These are like silt and gravel. They move when the rain hits. But Christ is the Bedrock. When we teach our children to listen to His words and follow Him, we are digging deep past the "shaky ground" of current events to reach the Stone that never moves.

Think of it like this: A ceasefire in the news is a gift, but it is a "fragile" gift. The peace of Christ is a "rock-solid" gift. One depends on human agreement; the other depends on God’s eternal promise. As you navigate the news this week with your family, remember that we aren't just waiting for the world to get better. We are walking with the One who is already making all things new.

Bible Study: Building on the Bedrock (A Family Interaction)

Parent & Kid Connection:

Grab a small bowl of sand and a single heavy stone. Set them on the table. Ask your child: "If you had to build a tiny house, which one would keep it safe during a big wind?"

Read Together: Matthew 7:24-27

The Big Idea: Jesus tells us that life will have storms. He doesn't say "if" the rain comes, but "when." The difference between the house that falls and the house that stands isn't the strength of the walls: it’s the foundation. In the Assemblies of God tradition, we emphasize the authority of Scripture. This means we trust God's Word more than we trust what we see on the news. When we pray together and treat each other with grace, we are laying bricks on that Rock.

Talk About It: 1. Why does building on sand seem easier at first? (It’s soft, you don't have to dig deep). 2. What are some "sandy" things we sometimes trust in instead of Jesus? (Popularity, having the best toys, everything going our way). 3. How can we help each other stay on the Rock this week? (Praying together, being kind, remembering God is in control).

The Story: Leo and the Golden Light

Once, in a world of soft watercolor blues and charcoal greys, there stood a lighthouse named Leo. Leo was not the tallest lighthouse, nor was he the loudest. But Leo had something very special: he was built directly into the Great White Rock that dipped its toes deep into the ocean floor.

One evening, a thick, misty fog rolled over the sea. The waves began to whisper, "The ground is shaking! The world is changing! We are very, very big, and you are very, very small."

Leo felt the spray of the salt on his windows. He heard the news from the seagulls who had flown from far-away lands. They chirped about "shaky ground" and "uncertain winds." For a moment, Leo’s little golden light flickered. He felt a tiny bit of fear in his stone heart.

But then, Leo felt the Great White Rock beneath him. It didn't move. It didn't even shiver. The Rock was steady, ancient, and strong. Leo remembered what the Great Maker had told him: "Your job isn't to stop the waves, Leo. Your job is to hold onto Me and keep your light shining."

Leo took a deep breath. He sent a warm, golden glow out into the charcoal mist. He wasn't afraid of the shaky sea anymore, because he knew his foundation was solid. He stood tall, a beacon of hope for every little boat trying to find its way home. And as the morning sun began to break through the clouds, the sea grew calm, but Leo stayed exactly where he had always been: safe on the Rock.

The Boundless Voyagers: Chapter 14 – The Anchor’s Secret

The Grace-Runner creaked as it bobbed in the harbor of the Misty Isles. Captain Caleb stared at the horizon, his hand resting on the wooden rail. Beside him, young Toby was trying to tie a knot, but his hands were shaking.

"Captain," Toby whispered, "the scouts say the currents are shifting. They say the maps don't work anymore because the sandbars are moving every hour. How are we supposed to stay still?"

Caleb smiled, a gentle crinkle appearing by his eyes. He pointed to the thick, rusted chain disappearing into the dark water. "We aren't staying still because of the water, Toby. We’re staying still because of the Anchor. It’s hooked into something much deeper than the moving sand."

Toby looked at the chain. "But I can't see the bottom."

"That’s the secret of the Boundless Voyagers," Caleb said, patting Toby’s shoulder. "We don't need to see the bottom to know the Anchor holds. We just have to trust the One who forged the chain. Now, tighten that knot. We have work to do, and the Light is calling us forward."

Tips & Tricks: 5 Ways to Raise Peacemakers in a Shaky World

It can be tough to know how to handle global news with children. Here are five simple ways to keep your home focused on the Cross:

  1. Filter the Noise: Children under 10 don't need to see the 24-hour news cycle. Give them the "watercolor version": simple facts wrapped in the assurance of God’s sovereignty.

  2. Pray for Leaders by Name: When you hear about JD Vance or world leaders in Islamabad, pray for them. It teaches children that we respond to tension with intercession, not just anxiety.

  3. Practice "Bedrock" Moments: Create a daily routine that never changes (like a bedtime prayer or a morning hug). These small stabilities reflect God’s big stability.

  4. Focus on the "Helper" Stories: When news is scary, look for the people helping. Point out the missionaries, the doctors, and the peacemakers.

  5. Model Peace: Your children will mirror your reaction. If you are grounded in the Word, they will feel the strength of your foundation.

Hands-On Faith: The "Rock of Ages" Garden

The Craft: Find a large, smooth stone from your yard. Use watercolors or acrylic paint to decorate it.

The Spiritual Connection: While you paint, talk about how Jesus is our Rock.

Script: "Just like this rock is hard and strong, Jesus’ love for us never changes. No matter what the weather is like outside, this rock stays the same. We can keep this on our porch to remind us that our family is built on Him!"

Key Takeaways for Busy Parents

  • Human peace is a process; Christ’s peace is a promise.

  • Building on the "Bedrock" means practicing obedience to God's Word daily.

  • Family discipleship turns "scary news" into "prayer opportunities."

  • Hope is found in the presence of the Holy Spirit, not the absence of world conflict.
