The Beginning of Everything

The story starts with a world that was empty and dark. There was nothing but water everywhere. Then God said, “Let there be light!” Suddenly, light appeared, and God saw that it was good. He called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” This was the very first day.

This part of the story is a great chance to draw or paint with your child. Use bright yellows and oranges for the light and deep blues or blacks for the darkness. You can even create a simple day and night craft using paper plates painted half dark and half light.

Creating the Sky and the Land

On the second day, God made the sky. He separated the waters above from the waters below, creating a big blue sky. The third day brought dry land. God gathered the water into seas and made the land appear. Then He made plants and trees grow on the land.

To bring this to life, try a collage activity. Cut out blue paper for the sky, green for the land, and add cotton balls for clouds. Use leaves or draw trees and flowers to decorate the land. This hands-on activity helps children understand how God shaped the earth.

Filling the World with Life

The fourth day was full of light again, but this time God made the sun to shine during the day, the moon to glow at night, and stars to twinkle in the sky. On the fifth day, God filled the seas with fish and the sky with birds. The sixth day was very special because God made all kinds of animals on the land—lions, elephants, rabbits, and more. Finally, God created people, a man and a woman, to take care of everything.

This part of the story is perfect for drawing animals or making animal masks. You can also use toy animals to act out the story, helping children connect with the idea that all creatures are part of God’s creation.

Rest and Reflection

On the seventh day, God rested. He looked at everything He had made and saw that it was very good. This day of rest is a reminder that taking time to pause and enjoy the world is important.

You can create a quiet moment with your child by sitting together and talking about what they like best about the world. Maybe it’s the trees, animals, or the stars. This reflection helps children appreciate the beauty around them and understand the idea of rest.

Tips for Reading the Story with Children
