How Can I Be Saved? (Finding Peace with God)

Finding peace with God starts with a simple, heart-felt realization: you don’t have to carry your burdens alone. Salvation is a free gift from God, made possible through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It isn’t earned by being "good enough"; it’s received by trusting in His grace. By acknowledging our need for Him and turning toward His love, we are born again into a new life of hope and purpose.

What the Bible Says About Salvation

Before we dive into the details, let's look at what God’s Word says about this journey. These verses are the foundation of everything we believe about finding peace with Him.

  • Romans 3:23 (NIV): "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

  • Romans 6:23 (NIV): "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

  • John 3:16 (NIV): "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

  • Romans 10:9 (NIV): "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

  • Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV): "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast."

Understanding the Journey to Peace

If you’ve ever felt like there is a "gap" between you and God, you aren't alone. Most people feel a sense of searching, a desire for something more, or a need to be forgiven for things in their past. In the Christian faith, we call this the need for salvation. But what does that actually mean for your daily life?

1. Acknowledging the Gap

The first step is simply being honest. The Bible explains that "sin" is what creates a barrier between us and God. Sin isn't just a list of "bad things" we do; it’s a state of being disconnected from our Creator. It’s like a ship trying to navigate without a compass. We’ve all made mistakes, and we’ve all "fallen short."

Recognizing this isn't about feeling guilty or ashamed. It’s about being realistic. You can’t find the right road until you realize you’re currently on the wrong one.

2. The Bridge: Jesus Christ

Because God loves us so much, He didn't want that gap to remain. He provided a bridge. That bridge is Jesus.

Jesus lived a perfect life, took our mistakes upon Himself on the cross, and then rose from the dead to prove that life is stronger than death. He did the work so that we don't have to. You don't have to "clean yourself up" to come to Jesus. You come to Him exactly as you are, and He provides the peace you’ve been looking for.

3. Receiving the Gift

Imagine someone offers you a beautifully wrapped gift. It’s yours, but it doesn't benefit you until you reach out and take it. Salvation is the same way. We receive it through faith.

Faith isn't a magical feeling; it’s a decision to trust. It’s saying, "God, I believe that what Jesus did was for me." When we believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord, the Bible says we are "born again." This is one of the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God that we hold dear: the salvation of man is provided through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

Why This Matters Right Now

You might be reading this while on a break during a late-night shift, or perhaps you’re at home caring for a loved one, or maybe you're in a place where you feel spiritually isolated. Wherever you are, salvation changes your "right now."

Being "born again" means your past is wiped clean. God doesn't look at your old mistakes anymore; He looks at you through the lens of His Son. This brings a "peace that transcends all understanding." It means that no matter what the world throws at you, financial stress, health issues, or loneliness, you have an anchor for your soul.

At Boundless Online Church, we help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. We know that the world can be a heavy place. But the message of the Gospel is light. It’s a message that says you are seen, you are known, and you are loved by the Creator of the universe.

The Role of Repentance

A word you might hear often is "repentance." It sounds like a big, scary religious word, but it’s actually very beautiful. To repent simply means to "turn around."

If you are walking toward a dark forest and realize you’re lost, you turn around and walk toward the light. That’s repentance. It’s a change of heart and mind where you decide to stop living for yourself and start living with God. It’s a daily walk where you invite the Holy Spirit to guide your steps.

Encouragement for the Seekers

If you’re still unsure, that’s okay. Faith is a journey, not a sprint. You might have questions about the Bible, or you might wonder how a loving God could allow certain things in the world. We invite those questions. God isn't afraid of your doubts.

The most important thing to know is that peace is available to you today. You don’t need to be in a specific building or have a perfect record. You can find God right where you are, in a hospital room, a truck cab, a quiet kitchen, or an office.

If you want to dive deeper into these concepts, we invite you to join our Clarion Call Bible Study. It’s a place where we explore the Word together and find practical ways to live out our faith in a modern world.

A Short Prayer for Peace

If you are ready to take that step and ask Jesus into your life, you can use this prayer as a guide. The words aren't a magic formula, it’s the sincerity of your heart that matters.

"Dear God, I acknowledge that I need You. I admit that I have sinned and been living apart from You. I believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins and rose again. Today, I turn away from my old life and turn toward You. I accept Your gift of salvation. Please fill me with Your peace and help me to follow You every day. Amen."

If you just prayed that prayer, we would love to hear from you! You don't have to walk this new path alone. We have a community here at Boundless Online Church ready to support you. You can also share your journey or request support on our Prayer Wall.
