Empowering the next generation in Memphis requires intentional mentorship, Holy Spirit empowerment, and authentic community. By bridging the gap between generations through the wisdom of the Nashville conference, we equip Gen Z and Alpha to lead with biblical conviction, serving both the local 901 area and the global church.
The heartbeat of any thriving city is found in its future. In Memphis, the energy of Gen Z and Gen Alpha is unmistakable. From the streets of Cordova to the schools in Bartlett and the neighborhoods of Germantown, a new wave of leadership is rising. This isn't just about young people "taking a turn" in the future; it is about equipping them to lead with authority, grace, and Spirit-empowered conviction today.
Following the recent NextGen Leaders Conference in Nashville, the focus has shifted from merely keeping young people engaged to putting them "on mission." The message from the conference was clear: we are not here to build a new mission, but to align the next generation with the original mission of Jesus, making disciples who make disciples. This legacy of faith is the foundation for every young leader in the 901.
The Memphis Mission: Bridging the 901 Gap
Memphis is a city of legacy, and that legacy is ready to be handed off. Empowerment starts with recognition. We must see the potential in our students and young adults in Arlington, Collierville, and across Shelby County. The goal of First Assembly Memphis is to create a culture where seasoned leaders walk alongside those who are just starting their journey.
Leadership in the 901 isn't about titles: it is about influence. When we empower a young person, we are telling them that their voice matters in the Kingdom of God. This happens through intentional presence. Whether it is a conversation after a service or a dedicated mentorship meeting, the investment of time is the highest form of empowerment.

Mentorship Over Management: Why Relationships Matter
Many organizations try to "manage" the younger generations, but the church is called to mentor them. Gen Z and Gen Alpha are looking for authenticity above all else. They don't want a polished performance; they want a real relationship.
The Nashville conference highlighted that "making disciples who make disciples" is the core of our work. This means mentorship must be:
Biblically Anchored: Every piece of advice must point back to the authority of Scripture.
Spirit-Led: We rely on the Holy Spirit to guide the mentor and the mentee.
Consistent: Showing up week after week in the life of a young leader builds trust.
Mission-Focused: We aren't just teaching them to "be good"; we are teaching them to lead others to Christ.
If you are a parent or a leader in Memphis, your role is to be a bridge. You have the experience, and they have the energy. When those two combine, the results are life-changing for our community.
The Pentecostal Outpouring: Empowerment through the Holy Spirit
True leadership empowerment is not just a transfer of skills: it is an encounter with God. At First Assembly Memphis, we believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as a vital experience for every believer. This distinctive of the Assemblies of God is the "secret sauce" for the next generation.
When a young leader in Memphis or through our Boundless Online Church community experiences the power of the Spirit, they gain a courage that cannot be manufactured. They speak with boldness, pray with faith, and serve with a supernatural strength. We are praying for a fresh outpouring in every youth group, college campus, and home across the 901.

Practical Steps: How to Empower a Leader Today
Empowerment doesn't have to be complicated. Here are five practical ways to start empowering a young leader in your circle:
Action Item | Description | Local Connection |
Invite to the Table | Include young leaders in decision-making processes. | Invite them to help plan a 901 outreach event. |
Share the Why | Don't just give a task; explain the mission behind it. | Connect their service to the vision of First Assembly Memphis. |
Provide Resources | Give them books, podcasts, or Bible studies that challenge them. | Share our blog posts and church search tools. |
Create a Safe Space | Allow them to fail and learn without the weight of shame. | Foster this in a Life Group or family setting. |
Commission Them | Publicly affirm their leadership and call to ministry. | Celebrate their milestones during our services. |
The Dual Pathway: Local Reach and Global Connection
Our mission at First Assembly Memphis is twofold. We are deeply rooted in the 901, but we have a global heartbeat.
For the Local 901 Family: If you are in Memphis, Cordova, or Bartlett, your young leaders have a home at FA Memphis. We offer environments specifically designed to equip Gen Z and Alpha. You can find our upcoming youth and family events on our Events Page.
For the Global Boundless Community: If you are joining us from outside of Tennessee, you are part of the Boundless Online Church family. Empowerment knows no borders. Through our digital community, young leaders from across the world can find discipleship, mentorship, and a place to grow.
