How To: Can a Daily Devotional Be Done Before Your Coffee Gets Cold?

Yes. A daily devotional can be simple, honest, and finished before your coffee gets cold. You do not need a perfect routine. You just need a willing heart, a few quiet minutes, and a small space to meet with God before the noise of the day starts rising.

Mornings can feel rushed, heavy, or scattered.

But God is not asking you for perfection.

He is inviting you into connection.

Psalm 5:3 reminds us, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” Even a short devotional can re-center your heart before your responsibilities begin.

A simple rhythm can help.

First, take a quiet moment to pray honestly. Tell God if you feel tired, distracted, anxious, or grateful.

Second, read a short passage of Scripture. If you are unsure where to begin, the Gospel of John is a gentle place to start.

Third, reflect on one truth that stands out. Ask, “What is God showing me today?” Write down one verse, phrase, or prayer.

Fourth, pray again and surrender your day to the Lord.

This does not have to take long.

Small, faithful moments matter.

Zechariah 4:10 says, “Do not despise these small beginnings,” and that includes the beginning of a daily devotional habit. Five or ten minutes with God can shape your perspective, steady your emotions, and remind you that you are not facing the day alone.

If you miss a morning, do not spiral into shame.

Just begin again.

Grace is part of spiritual growth too.

Lord, thank You for meeting us in quiet mornings and ordinary moments. Help us come to You honestly, even when we feel tired or rushed. Teach us to love Your Word, hear Your voice, and carry Your peace into the rest of the day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
