Tier 2 – Newcomers to Church
Yes. Real belonging is found in Jesus and practiced in a church family that knows your name, carries your burdens, and helps you grow. At First Assembly Memphis, we want you to experience Christ-centered community, biblical truth, and Spirit-empowered hope—without pressure or pretending.
WHY this matters: Our mission in Memphis is to proclaim Jesus and make disciples—and that starts with helping people in the 901 find a real church family where they’re seen, loved, and led toward Christ.
Let's be honest: belonging is something we all crave.
You might not say it out loud, but you feel it. That quiet ache when you walk into a room full of people and still feel alone. That sense that something is missing, even when life looks good on paper. You wonder if there's a place where you truly fit: a community that gets you, accepts you, and walks with you through all of life's highs and lows.
If you're in Memphis or the 901, you know our city is full of neighborhoods, each with its own vibe and personality. From the live music echoing down Beale Street to the artsy energy of Cooper-Young, from the family-friendly parks of Cordova to the historic charm of Victorian Village: there's a corner of Memphis for everyone.
But here's the thing: finding a neighborhood isn't the same as finding belonging.
You can love your street, appreciate your neighbors, and still feel like something deeper is missing. Because the truth is, we weren't just made for geography. We were made for community. Real, meaningful, soul-deep connection.
Memphis: A City of Many Communities

Our city is built on diversity. Whether you’re in Memphis, Cordova, Bartlett, Arlington, or anywhere else in the 901, there are a lot of good places to live—and a lot of ways to stay busy.
But staying busy isn’t the same as feeling known.
Each neighborhood has something unique to offer. Each one draws people who share certain values: whether that's arts and culture, education and family, or music and nightlife.
But even in the best neighborhood, surrounded by friendly faces, you can still feel the gap. Because geography alone doesn't satisfy the soul.
The Longing Beneath the Surface
We're hardwired for connection. God designed us that way.
Genesis 2:18 says, "It is not good for the man to be alone." That wasn't just about marriage: it was a statement about humanity. We need each other. We thrive in community. We wither in isolation.
And yet, so many of us are walking through life feeling disconnected. We scroll through social media, surrounded by hundreds of "friends," but still lonely. We show up to work, smile at coworkers, and go home to empty silence. We attend events, fill our calendars, and still wonder: Does anyone actually see me?
The ache you feel isn't a weakness. It's a signal. It's your heart recognizing that you were made for more than surface-level connections. You were made for a family that knows your name, celebrates your wins, mourns your losses, and walks with you no matter what.
What the Church Was Always Meant to Be

When Jesus established the church, He didn't just create a religious institution. He created a family. A place where strangers become siblings. Where brokenness is met with grace. Where nobody has to pretend they have it all together.
In Acts 2:42-47, we see a snapshot of the early church: "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer... All the believers were together and had everything in common... Every day they continued to meet together... They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people."
That's not just history. That's the blueprint. That's what church is supposed to look like: authentic community centered on Christ.
At First Assembly Memphis, we're committed to that vision. We're not perfect, but we're family. And family means showing up for each other, praying for each other, and walking through life side by side.
You Don't Have to Walk Alone
Here's what we believe: You were created on purpose, for a purpose, and you are deeply loved by God.
No matter where you've been, what you've done, or how many times you've felt like you don't belong: there is a seat at the table for you. There's a place in the family with your name on it.
Ephesians 2:19 puts it this way: "Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household."
You're not an outsider looking in. You're family.
At First Assembly Memphis, we gather every week not out of obligation, but because we genuinely want to worship together, learn together, and do life together. Whether you're in Cordova, Bartlett, Germantown, or anywhere in the 901, we'd love to welcome you home.
What to Expect When You Visit

We know walking into a new church can feel intimidating. So let us make it easier.
When you come to First Assembly Memphis, expect to be welcomed. Our team is here to greet you, answer questions, and help you feel at home from the moment you walk through the door. You won't be pressured, called out, or put on the spot. Just genuine hospitality.
If you’re looking for a simple next step beyond Sunday, we can help you find a Life Group, connect through The Journey, and learn about ways we serve our city through FACS. (And yes—we love a good Wednesday night dinner around here.)
Expect real worship. We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit, and we invite Him into every service. Whether you're lifting your hands or just listening quietly, you're free to encounter God in your own way.
Expect biblical teaching. We anchor everything we do in Scripture. Our messages are practical, relevant, and rooted in the truth of God's Word. You'll leave equipped and encouraged, not confused or condemned.
And expect community. Whether it's through our small groups, ministry teams, or casual conversations over coffee, you'll find people who genuinely care. People who will laugh with you, pray with you, and walk with you through every season.

Take the Next Step
Belonging starts with a choice. A decision to stop walking alone and start walking with others who point you toward Christ.
You don't have to have it all figured out. You don't have to clean up your life before you come. You just have to show up. Bring your questions, your doubts, your messy reality: and let us walk with you.
Need prayers? Text us day or night at 1-901-213-7341. (Note: This line is for prayer and pastoral support, not emergency services. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent help, please call 911.)
Memphis is a great city with incredible neighborhoods. But no address can satisfy the soul's deepest longing. Only Jesus can do that. And He offers it freely, through the gift of His family; the church.
So here's the question: Will you come home?
