Kids & Parents: Love Isn't About Bowing Down — Standing for Biblical Truth in a Changing Culture

Have you noticed how quickly the language of "home" is changing right before our eyes? Just this month, in June 2026, the landscape of family law in New York took a dramatic turn. The legal terms we’ve known for generations, “mother” and “father”, are being set aside in statutory language for terms like “gestating parent” and “non-gestating parent.” It feels like the very definitions of who we are and how we relate to one another are being rewritten by a pen that doesn’t recognize the Author of life.

At the same time, we’re seeing a different kind of movement. One of the nation’s largest and oldest adoption agencies, Bethany Christian Services, recently made waves by choosing to return to a biblical standard for marriage and family, reaffirming their commitment to placing children in homes with a married mother and father.

As parents, we feel the ground shifting beneath our feet. We are told by every screen, every billboard, and now even our legal systems, that "love" means affirming every cultural trend without question. But as followers of Jesus, we have to ask: What if the most loving thing we can do for our children, and our world, is to stand firm?

The Pain: The Pressure to Affirm Everything

Christian parenting in a changing culture often feels like a constant, exhausting tug-of-war. On one side is the relentless pressure to be "inclusive" by abandoning biblical family values. On the other is the deep, quiet conviction that God’s design for the family isn’t a cultural accident, it’s an anchor.

The world often calls it "intolerance" when we hold to the truth of Scripture, and "love" when we bow to the latest ideology. This creates a profound sense of confusion and even fear for families trying to raise children who love Jesus and honor His Word. You might find yourself wondering:

  • How do I explain these legal changes to my kids without sounding angry?

  • Am I being "hateful" if I disagree with the cultural narrative?

  • Will my children be isolated or mocked for believing what the Bible says about marriage?

This pressure isn't just external; it's emotional. We want our kids to be kind. We want them to be compassionate. But we are being told that kindness and biblical truth can no longer live in the same house. That is a heavy burden for any parent to carry.

The Solution: Truth is the Highest Form of Love

We have to reclaim the definition of love. In our culture, love has been flattened into a synonym for "unqualified affirmation." But the love of God is much deeper, much more robust, and much more beautiful than that. Real love, the kind Jesus modeled, is inseparable from truth.

In 1 Corinthians 13:6, the "Love Chapter" we often hear at weddings, the Apostle Paul writes that love "does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth."

When we stand on the truth of Scripture regarding family, marriage, and identity, we aren't being mean-spirited or "behind the times." We are being protective. We are giving our children a foundation that won't wash away when the cultural tides change. Standing for truth is an act of profound pastoral care for the next generation.

Truth vs. Affirmation: Understanding the Difference

  • Affirmation says, "Whatever you feel is your truth."

  • Biblical Love says, "I love you enough to point you to THE Truth."

  • Affirmation changes with the passing of a new bill or a shift in social media trends.

  • Biblical Love is anchored in the Word of God that never changes.

If we love our children, we want them to live in reality, God's reality. When the law tries to redefine a mother as a "gestating parent," biblical love steps in to say, "No, you have a mother, a unique and beautiful role designed by God Himself."

3 Ways to Stand for Biblical Family Values Today

Standing firm doesn't mean standing still. It requires intentional, daily action in our homes. Here are three practical ways you can lead your family with grace and truth:

1. Reclaim the Language of the Kingdom

Language shapes how our children see the world. When the culture tries to neutralize or erase the terms "mother," "father," and "marriage," we must use them with even more intentionality and joy. Don't be afraid to teach your children why God designed the family the way He did. Use the Bible as your primary dictionary. When they see the world using confusing legal terms, let them hear the clarity of Scripture in your voice.

2. Prioritize Home Discipleship

In a world that wants to "gestate" new ideologies in our children's minds through schools, media, and peer groups, you must be the primary voice of truth in their lives. This doesn't require a theology degree; it requires presence.

  • Read the Word together.

  • Discuss the headlines through the lens of the Gospel.

  • Model what it looks like to disagree with the world while still showing the kindness of Christ.

If you're looking for resources to help with this, explore the Bible Study materials and podcasts available at www.boundlessonlinechurch.org. We are committed to helping you become the primary disciple-maker in your home.

3. Connect with a Community That Stands Firm

You were never meant to raise a family in isolation. The pressure of the culture is too much for one household to face alone. Whether you are looking for an online church in Memphis or a global community of believers you can connect with from your living room, finding a place that stands unapologetically on the Word of God is vital.

At www.boundlessonlinechurch.org, we provide a space where you can find community, receive prayer, and grow in your faith without the fear of being told to "bow down" to cultural trends. Community reminds us that we aren't the only ones holding the line.

You Are Not Alone in the Stand

It can feel lonely to be the parent who says "no" to the world’s "yes." It can feel frightening to see the legal structures of your state or country shift away from biblical foundations. But remember the words of Jesus: "In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

Your faithfulness at home is a light. When you refuse to bow to ideologies that contradict God's Word, you are showing your children that there is something, and Someone, worth standing for. You are teaching them that their identity isn't found in a legal statute or a social trend, but in the hands of a Creator who loved them enough to die for them.

A Prayer for Your Family

Lord, we thank You that Your Word is an anchor in a shifting world. Give us the courage to love like You, with both grace and truth. Help us to build our homes on the solid rock of Your Word so that our children grow strong in their identity in Christ. When the world asks us to bow, help us to stand tall, knowing that You are with us. We pray for our leaders and our legal systems, asking for a return to wisdom and truth. Amen.
