A Lamp for the Next Step
A simple way to start studying the Bible

Have you ever tried walking through a dark room at night? You move slowly, you feel for the wall, and you hope you do not trip over something. But the moment you turn on a light, everything changes. You can see where you are going.
God's Word works the same way in our lives. The psalmist wrote: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." (Psalm 119:105, KJV)
I love that picture. A lamp does not always light up the whole road ahead. It often shows us just enough to take the next step. God does not always show us the full plan, but His Word gives us the light we need for today.
Many people want to read the Bible but are not sure where to begin. Here is some encouragement. You do not have to be a scholar. You just need to be willing. Start small and stay consistent.
Here is a simple way to study a passage. First, read it slowly, maybe even twice. Second, ask what it says about God. Third, ask what it says about you and how you should live. Fourth, turn what you learned into a short prayer. That is it. Simple steps, done faithfully, can change your life.
A great place to begin is one of the Gospels, like the Gospel of John, where you can see the life and love of Jesus up close. Grab a notebook and write down one thing that stands out to you each day.
Studying the Bible is even better with others. Invite a friend, join a small group, or connect with a Bible study at church. We grow stronger when we learn together.
Let God's Word light your next step this week.
Reflection Question: What passage of Scripture will you commit to reading this week, and who could you invite to study it with you?
