Looking for a Church in Memphis? Why FA Memphis Might Be Your New Home.

Updated: May 13

FA Memphis is a vibrant, Spirit-filled Assemblies of God community in Cordova dedicated to helping people find hope and purpose through Jesus Christ. We offer dynamic worship, biblical teaching, and ministries for all ages, creating a welcoming "front-porch" environment for everyone in the 901 area.

Finding Your Place in the 901 Community

Finding a new church home can feel overwhelming, especially in a city as big and diverse as Memphis. Whether you have just moved to Bartlett, are raising a family in Arlington, or have lived in the heart of Shelby County your entire life, the search for a spiritual community is deeply personal. You aren't just looking for a building; you are looking for a family. At First Assembly Memphis (FA Memphis), we believe that no one is meant to go through life alone. We are better together.

First Assembly Memphis has been a cornerstone of the Mid-South since 1907. Our history is rooted in the Pentecostal tradition, but our focus is squarely on the future and how we can serve the modern families of the 901. When you walk through our doors at 8650 Walnut Grove Road in Cordova, you aren't a stranger, you’re a guest we’ve been waiting for. Our mission is simple: to help you discover the life-changing power of Jesus Christ and to provide a place where you can grow, serve, and belong.

The Heart of Our Mission: Why We Are Here

Why does First Assembly Memphis exist? Our mission and vision are centered on the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. We believe in the authority of Scripture and the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. In a world that often feels chaotic, we offer a foundation built on the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. This isn't just "religion", it’s a relationship.

We want to help you bridge the gap between where you are and where God wants you to be. This starts with our Mission and Vision, which guides everything we do, from our Sunday morning worship to our local outreach projects. We are a "dual-pathway" church, meaning we focus heavily on our local 901 community while reaching the world through our Boundless Online Church.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

If you are thinking about visiting us, you might wonder what a typical Sunday looks like. We strive to make our "front porch" as welcoming as possible.

  1. Warm Welcome: From the moment you pull into the parking lot, our goal is to make you feel at home.

  2. Casual Atmosphere: Come as you are. Whether you prefer a suit or jeans, you’ll fit right in.

  3. Biblical Teaching: Our sermons are anchored in the Word of God, providing practical solutions for everyday life.

  4. Spirit-Led Worship: We make room for the Holy Spirit to move, creating an environment where divine healing and spiritual renewal can happen.

  5. Connection: After the service, there are always people ready to chat and help you find your next step.

Ministries for Every Generation

A church home should serve every member of your family. At FA Memphis, we have designed specific environments to help everyone from toddlers to seniors grow in their faith.

For the Kids and Students

We believe in investing in the next generation. Our children’s ministries are more than just "babysitting", they are a place for discipleship. From Junior Bible Quiz to our annual VBS (Vacation Bible School), we provide fun, safe, and biblically-sound environments for your children. For school-aged kids, First Assembly Christian School (FACS) offers a top-tier education with a Christian worldview.

For Adults and Families

Spiritual growth happens best in small circles, not just large rows. Our Life Groups and Weekly Emails keep our community connected throughout the week. For women, our Heart to Heart ministry provides a space for deep connection and mentorship. For our seasoned members, the Prime-Time Cruzers offer fellowship and local outings that prove faith only gets better with age.

For the Community

We love the 901! Whether it’s our community-wide Trunk or Treat, Baseball leagues, or other Fall Sports, we use recreation and events to build bridges with our neighbors in Cordova and beyond.

Biblical Foundations: Understanding Our Faith

At FA Memphis, we want everyone to understand the "why" behind what we believe. Here are a few key theological terms you might hear during a service:

Definition Block: Justification Justification is the act of God’s free grace, wherein He pardons all our sins and accepts us as righteous in His sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us and received by faith alone.
Definition Block: Sanctification Sanctification is the ongoing process, led by the Holy Spirit, of being set apart from sin and dedicated to God’s purposes, becoming more like Jesus Christ in our daily lives.
Definition Block: Baptism in the Holy Spirit An experience following salvation that empowers believers for Christian witness and service, often characterized by the New Testament sign of speaking in other tongues.
