A Message from FA Memphis
Spending five minutes with Jesus changes your entire day by anchoring your spirit in His peace, aligning your mindset with biblical truth, and inviting the Holy Spirit to lead your decisions before the distractions of the world take hold. This small but intentional window of time acts as a spiritual "reset," ensuring that you are responding to life from a place of grace rather than reacting out of stress or habit.
The Power of the Small Start
We often think that to have a "real" relationship with God, we need to spend hours in deep meditation or go on a week-long retreat. While those things are wonderful, the heart of the Christian walk is found in the daily rhythm.
Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray. He understood that connection with the Father was the fuel for His ministry. If the Son of God prioritized these moments, how much more do we need them?
Consistency matters more than intensity. A five-minute conversation every single morning is more life-changing than a two-hour session once a month. It’s about building a relationship, not just completing a task. When you show up every day, you are telling God, and yourself, that He is the priority.

Why Five Minutes Is Enough to Start
You might feel guilty that you "only" have five minutes. Please, let go of that guilt right now. God isn't looking at a stopwatch; He is looking at your heart.
In our "Boundless Daily Micro-Studies" series, we focus on the idea that God can do a lot with a little. Think of the five loaves and two fish. In the hands of Jesus, that small offering fed thousands. When you offer Him five minutes of your undivided attention, He multiplies the peace, wisdom, and patience you receive during that time to last throughout your sixteen waking hours.
This isn't about legalism. It’s about spiritual formation. We are what we repeatedly do. If we repeatedly start our day by scrolling through social media or checking stressful emails, we are training our brains to be anxious. If we start with Jesus, we are training our souls to be at rest.
What Happens in Those Five Minutes?
So, what does this actually look like? It doesn’t have to be complicated. Here is a simple framework you can use starting tomorrow morning:
1. The Minute of Arrival (60 Seconds) Take a deep breath. Acknowledge that God is present with you right there in your room, your car, or your office. Simply say, "Holy Spirit, I welcome you into this day." This aligns with our belief in the person and work of the Holy Spirit, who is our Comforter and Guide.
2. The Minute of Truth (60 Seconds) Read one or two verses of Scripture. Don't worry about finishing a whole chapter. Just let a few words sit in your mind. This honors the authority of the Bible as our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice.
3. The Minute of Gratitude (60 Seconds) Name three things you are thankful for. Gratitude shifts your perspective from what you lack to what God has provided. It is a powerful weapon against discontentment.
4. The Minute of Petition (60 Seconds) Bring your specific needs for the day to God. Are you worried about a meeting? Ask for wisdom. Are you feeling tired? Ask for strength. Jesus cares about the details of your life.
5. The Minute of Listening (60 Seconds) This is often the hardest part. Just be still. Give God space to speak to your heart. It might be a sense of peace, a reminder of His love, or a gentle nudge to apologize to someone or help a neighbor.

The Ripple Effect Throughout Your Day
When you spend those five minutes, you aren't just checking a box. You are putting on the "Armor of God." The impact ripples out in ways you might not even notice at first.
Emotional Grounding By starting with God’s Word, you develop a resilience against performance-based thinking. You remember that your worth is found in Christ, not in your productivity. When a crisis hits at 10:00 AM, you have a foundation of peace to lean back on.
Relational Depth Consistent time with God softens your heart. It makes you more aware of the needs of others. When you have spent time in the presence of Grace, you are much more likely to extend grace to your spouse, your kids, or that difficult coworker.
Purpose and Guidance A daily micro-study provides a framework for your decisions. Instead of drifting through the day, you are walking with a sense of purpose. You begin to see your daily tasks, no matter how mundane, as opportunities to serve God.
Overcoming the "Consistency Crisis"
We’ve all been there. You start strong on Monday, but by Thursday, the alarm doesn't go off, the kids are screaming, or you’re just plain exhausted. You miss your five minutes.
What do you do?
The enemy wants you to feel like a failure so you'll give up entirely. But grace says, "Start again." If you miss your morning time, find five minutes at lunch. Or five minutes in the carpool line. Or five minutes before you close your eyes at night.
The goal is to live with God, not just to do things for Him. If you find yourself struggling to stay consistent, reach out for support. Our Bible Study Club is a great place to find others who are on the same journey of daily growth.

A Spirit-Empowered Life
At Boundless Online Church, we believe in Spirit-empowered living. This isn't something we do in our own strength. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us the desire and the power to seek God.
If you feel like your spiritual life has become dry or stagnant, don't try to "fix" it by adding more religious chores. Just go back to the five minutes. Ask the Holy Spirit to meet you in that small space. We follow the AG 16 Fundamental Truths, which remind us that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is for all believers and provides the power for life and service. That power starts in the quiet moments of the morning.
