Micro-Study : Strength for the Long Wait (Day 37)

A Message from FA Memphis

Welcome to Day 37.

If you are a caregiver or someone navigating the winding road of long-term recovery, you know that "Day 37" isn't just a number on a calendar. It represents that middle ground. The initial adrenaline of the "new" situation has worn off. The finish line, if there even is one, feels miles away.

In this space, the air can feel a bit thin. You’re tired. You’re doing the same things over and over. You’re waiting for a breakthrough, waiting for a lab result, or waiting for the urge to fade.

Today, we are looking at the Fruit of the Spirit: Patience.

But we aren't talking about the kind of patience you need while waiting in line at the grocery store. We’re talking about the deep-soul endurance that only comes from the Holy Spirit.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online, and today, we want to help you find the strength to keep standing right where you are.

The Reality of the Long Wait

Waiting is hard work.

When you are caring for a loved one with a chronic illness, or when you are fighting for your own sobriety and peace of mind, the "wait" is physical. It’s the weight in your shoulders and the fog in your brain.

Society tells us to "just be patient," as if patience is a button you can just press. But the Bible describes it differently. In the original language of the New Testament, one of the primary words for patience is hupomonē.

It doesn't mean "waiting for the storm to pass." It means "remaining under."

It’s the ability to stay under a heavy load without breaking. It’s the capacity to hold your ground when every part of you wants to run away. For a caregiver, that might mean showing up with love for the hundredth time today. For someone in recovery, it means choosing life over a craving for one more hour.

Not Your Own Strength

Here is the truth we have to face: You don’t have enough patience in your own "tank" to handle a long-term crisis.

If you try to manufacture patience out of your own willpower, you will eventually hit a wall. You will become resentful, exhausted, and bitter.

As part of the Assemblies of God (AG) doctrine, we believe that the Fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, is exactly that: fruit. Fruit doesn’t grow because a tree tries really hard. Fruit grows because the tree is connected to the right source.

Jesus said in John 15:5, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

If you feel like your patience is gone on Day 37, it’s okay to admit that. In fact, admitting you’re at the end of your rope is the first step toward experiencing God’s power. When we are weak, He is strong.

Meeting Jesus in the Middle

If you’re reading this and you feel like you’ve been doing this all on your own, I want to invite you to meet someone who understands the weight you’re carrying.

Jesus Christ didn't just watch us suffer from a distance. He stepped into our world. He knows what it’s like to be weary. He knows what it’s like to be under pressure. And He offers a solution that isn't based on how "good" or "strong" you are.

Salvation isn't a reward for people who have it all together. It’s a rescue for people who know they can't save themselves.

Whether you are a caregiver who feels invisible or someone in recovery who feels defined by their past, Jesus sees you. He offers you a new beginning, not just a clean slate, but His very Spirit to live inside you. This Spirit is the one who produces that "long-haul" patience you need.

How the Spirit Empowers the Wait

So, how does the Holy Spirit actually help you on Day 37?

Practical Steps for the Long Wait

While we rely on the Spirit, there are also practical ways we can "remain under" the load with grace.

  • Take it one hour at a time. Don't look at Day 40 or Day 100 yet. Just look at the next hour.

  • Stay connected. Isolation is the enemy of patience. Whether it’s a Bible study club or a simple text to a friend, stay in the loop.

  • Pray the "Help" prayer. You don't need long, poetic prayers. "Lord, give me your patience for the next ten minutes" is a prayer He loves to answer.

  • Read the Word. The Bible is full of people who waited. Abraham waited for a son. Joseph waited in prison. The early Church waited for the Spirit. You aren't alone in the waiting room of faith.

A Message for the Weary Caregiver

To the one who is changing bandages, managing medications, or sitting by a hospital bed: God sees you.

Your work is not invisible. In the eyes of the Lord, your "patience under pressure" is a beautiful act of worship. When you feel like you are losing your identity in the needs of someone else, remember that your identity is firmly held in Christ.

He is the one who sustains the sustainer. If you need a place to find rest, check out our Online Programs or join a discussion with others who understand the journey.

A Message for the One in Recovery

To the one who is counting days and feeling the weight of the "long wait" for healing: Don't give up.

Day 37 is a victory. The enemy wants you to think that because it’s still hard, it isn't working. But that is a lie. Growth is happening in the waiting. The "patience" the Spirit is building in you now is the foundation for a life of freedom.

Keep leaning on the Word. Keep reaching out. There is a whole community here at Boundless Online Church cheering you on.

Let’s Pray Together

Heavenly Father, we come to You today on behalf of everyone standing in the middle of a long wait. Lord, for the caregivers who are exhausted and the seekers who are fighting for recovery, we ask for a fresh outpouring of Your Holy Spirit. Give them the fruit of patience. Not just a quiet waiting, but a powerful endurance. Remind them that they are not alone. Let them feel Your presence in the quiet moments of Day 37. We thank You that Your strength is made perfect in our weakness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
