How do you find peace when the world feels like it’s falling apart? When the news cycle is filled with headlines of missile strikes and rising tensions, it is natural to feel a sense of overwhelming anxiety for your family. The answer isn't found in turning off the news, but in turning toward the Prince of Peace.
Today’s headlines are heavy, but they do not have the final word. As we navigate the complexities of the US-Iran escalation, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and shifting global diplomacy, our mission at Boundless Online Church is to help you lead your family back to the Word of God, the only source of truth that remains unshaken.
The Headlines: A World in Motion
The news this week has been particularly intense, with multiple fronts of conflict dominating the global stage. Here is a summary of what is happening and why it matters for your family prayer time:
1. Escalation in the Middle East The conflict between the US and Iran has reached a critical point. Following the collapse of a shaky ceasefire, the US military has conducted its eighth consecutive night of strikes against targets in Iran. These operations, aimed at degrading threats to global shipping, have been met with retaliation. Iranian forces have launched strikes against Gulf bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. Sadly, at least 16 US service members have been reported dead. This escalation has raised significant concerns regarding global energy security and regional stability.
2. Ballistic Attacks on Kyiv In Eastern Europe, the Russia-Ukraine war continues to take a devastating toll. Russia recently launched one of its largest ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv since the start of the war. Dozens of missiles were fired, resulting in numerous casualties and significant damage to civilian infrastructure. This serves as a sober reminder of the ongoing need for praying across borders for our brothers and sisters in harm's way.
3. G7 and Diplomatic Efforts Amidst the violence, diplomatic efforts continue. G7 leaders are meeting to coordinate responses to these crises, seeking ways to provide economic and military support while exploring potential pathways to peace. While these political maneuvers are important, they remind us that human diplomacy has its limits. True, lasting peace requires a transformation of the heart that only Christ can provide.

Anchoring in the Word: Psalm 46:10
When the world is loud, God’s voice is often found in the silence. Psalm 46:10 gives us a command that feels counterintuitive in a crisis: "Be still, and know that I am God."
Being "still" doesn't mean being inactive. In the original Hebrew, the word raphah means to "let go" or "release." It’s an invitation to stop trying to control the world through our own strength or anxiety and to recognize that God is sovereign over the nations. Whether it is a kitchen table in Memphis or a shelter in Kyiv, God is present.
Teaching your children this concept is a vital part of family discipleship. It helps them understand that while we cannot control the "rumors of war," we can control where we place our trust. This is the foundation of building emotional intelligence through a biblical lens, helping kids process fear by replacing it with the historical faithfulness of God.
Teaching Kids to Be Peacemakers
In the Beatitudes, Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9).
In a world that often rewards the loudest or most aggressive voice, we are called to a different standard. Peacemaking isn't just about the absence of war; it is the presence of Shalom, wholeness, justice, and restoration.
How do we talk to kids about God in the midst of war? We start by modeling what it looks like to be a peacemaker at home. When we practice forgiveness after a sibling squabble or choose kind words during a stressful morning, we are teaching our children the building blocks of the peace they see missing in the news.

5 Ways to Cultivate Peace at Home This Week
If you are looking for practical summer faith activities for kids that address the current climate, here are five low-energy discipleship habits you can start today:
The News-to-Prayer Pivot: When you see a heavy headline, don't just scroll past. Stop and pray one sentence with your child: "Lord, please bring peace to the families in that city."
Scripture Scavenger Hunt: Have your kids find verses about "peace" or "courage" in the Bible and write them on sticky notes for the fridge.
The "Safe Place" Ritual: At bedtime, remind your child of Psalm 46:1. Use it as a prayer: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
Worship in the Car: Swap the news radio for a worship playlist. Let the truth of God's character fill the space where anxiety usually lives.
Kitchen Table Conversations: Use our parent conversation guides to talk about what it means to trust Jesus when things feel scary.

A Prayer Prompt for Families
Tonight, before you close your eyes, gather your family and pray these words together:
"Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Prince of Peace. We pray for the families in the Middle East and Ukraine who are afraid tonight. We pray for our service members and for the leaders of the nations, that they would seek wisdom and mercy. Help us to be still and know that You are God. Protect our hearts from fear and help us to be peacemakers in our own home. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Discipling your children doesn't require you to have all the answers to the world's problems. It only requires you to be present and to point them to the One who does. If you're looking for more ways to lead your family in faith, check out our guide to daily devotionals at home.
