Question: How Can I Experience a Life-Changing Encounter with Jesus?
Meeting Jesus isn’t about checking a religious box or attending a dry ceremony; it’s a radical, personal surrender that happens when you stop running and bring your honest mess to Him. You experience this life-changing encounter by coming to Him exactly as you are, seeking His heart through the Bible, and inviting the Holy Spirit to let His Refining Fire burn away the old you. Once you truly meet the King, the chains of your history are broken, and you realize that in Christ, we No Bowing Down to the past ever again.
Hey there, friend. If you’re reading this, maybe you’re at a place where "just getting by" isn't enough anymore. Maybe you’ve got a past that feels like a lead weight, or a future that looks a little blurry. Down here in Memphis, we know a thing or two about soul. We know that real change doesn’t come from a new coat of paint; it comes from a structural overhaul.
In the Bible, when people met Jesus, they didn’t just walk away with a "good vibe." They walked away completely different. Tax collectors quit their corrupt jobs. Outcasts found a seat at the table. People who were blind started seeing things clearly for the first time.
That same Jesus is moving today. He’s not looking for your "polished" version. He’s looking for you.

The Refining Fire of God’s Love
One of the core things we believe here at Boundless Online Church is that God’s love is a Refining Fire. Malachi 3:2 asks, "But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire."
A refiner’s fire doesn’t destroy the gold; it burns away the dross, the junk, the impurities, the stuff that keeps the gold from shining. When you encounter Jesus, His love starts a fire in your soul. It might feel uncomfortable at first because He’s dealing with the sin and the habits that have kept you stuck. But trust the process. He’s making you into who you were always meant to be.
5 Takeaways for Experiencing a Life-Changing Encounter
If you are ready for a real shift, here are five practical ways to posture your heart for a move of God:
Drop the Mask and Be Honest: Jesus consistently met people who stopped pretending. Whether it was Zacchaeus in a tree or the woman at the well, the encounter started with truth. Tell Him exactly where you are, even if it’s ugly.
Get Into the Word Daily: You can't know His heart if you don't hear His voice. Start in the Gospel of John or Mark. As you read, ask, "Jesus, what are You showing me about Yourself today?"
Invite the Holy Spirit to Work: We believe in Spirit-empowered living. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you, guide you, and give you the strength to follow Jesus. You weren't meant to do this in your own power.
Surrender Your "Right" to Your Way: A life-changing encounter requires a turning point. Repentance isn't just saying sorry; it's a U-turn. It’s saying, "Lord, Your will, not mine."
Connect with a Community: Faith isn't a solo sport. You need a family to walk with you. That's why we’re here at Boundless Online Church.

Why We Never Bow Down to the Past
There’s a theme you’ll hear us talk about a lot: No Bowing Down. This comes from the heart of standing firm in the truth of who God says you are.
Often, the biggest obstacle to a life-changing encounter is our own history. The devil loves to remind you of what you did five years ago, or even five minutes ago. He wants you to bow down to shame, to regret, and to your old identity.
But listen to what the Bible says:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" , 2 Corinthians 5:17
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!" , Isaiah 43:18-19
To No Bowing Down means you refuse to let your past dictate your future. You refuse to let cultural pressure or old wounds tell you that you aren’t worthy of God’s grace. Jesus paid the price so you could stand tall. When the Refiner’s Fire has done its work, you stand in the righteousness of Christ. You don't bow to the "old man"; you walk with the New King.
Pastoral Insight: Your Story is a Testimony
Dr. Layne McDonald often reminds us that your greatest struggle often becomes your greatest stage for God’s mercy. Don't hide your scars. In the hands of Jesus, those scars become proof of healing.
Maybe you feel like you've drifted too far. Maybe you're sitting there with a cup of coffee in an Enamel Mug thinking, "Penny, you don't know what I've done." You're right, I don't. But Jesus does, and He’s still calling your name. He wants to take that "mess" and turn it into a message.
Tools and Resources for the Journey
To help you stay focused on this new path, we’ve put together some resources to keep the Word close to your heart:
The Boundless Journal: Grab a Spiral Notebook to write down what God speaks to you during your morning Bible study.
Daily Reminders: Wear your faith with a Unisex Garment-Dyed Hoodie or a Classic Dad Hat. Sometimes, putting on the "armor" starts with a simple reminder of whose you are.

A Prayer for Your Encounter
Lord Jesus, I come to You right now. I’m tired of bowing down to my past, my mistakes, and my fears. I ask for a life-changing encounter today. Let Your Refining Fire burn away the junk and make me new. I believe You died for me and rose again. I surrender my life to You. Fill me with Your Spirit and lead me in Your truth. Amen.
